Driving through standing water

I've been seeing a lot of videos circulating recently of vehicles driving (or attempting to drive) through Rufford Ford.

There's a T6 (I think) Transporter in this that gets into difficulty. Also a few "off road" vehicles that I would've thought could make it through without issues that didn't!

Just wondering if anyone knows the maximum depth of standing water that it's safe to drive through in a standard T6 Cali?

Bottom of the doors is usually a good guide for most cars

I think I remember seeing that 300mm is stated in the manual in previous posts on here.

Most of those drivers thought they were better off going faster or they just wanted to splash the evil vultures that are bystanders. Either way that was their undoing.
More of those cars would have got through if they drove like the silver Audi driver on 11 mins....

Rule of thumb: Don't drive through water that you couldn't normally walk through.

I ended up seeing an artcile on this in The Guardian last week and watching a few of the videos. After 10 minutes of that and watching an army of "influencers" filming every single car driving through I could feel my brains dribbling out of my right ear so closed the browser and will leave it at that.

Thank goodness for every person who treats weather and natural elements with such disdain there seems to be a volunteer somewhere willing to step up to the plate and be part of a rescue team.

To drive into deep standing water, especially with a depth marker visible, ....

It reminds me of the school teacher I met in thick mist with no compass happily walking towards a skydive off Harrison stickle, and objecting that he really did not need help from the MRT .... I couldn't help my reply being laced with flavoursome language as I suggested it was the 14 children that he was leading that was my main concern and if he was going to throw himself over the crags can he keep to the right as there's sheep at the bottom left.

Is anyone else curious why it is called Rufford Ford and not simply Ruf Ford?

I’m assuming Rufford is named after the ford, so why then name the ford after the place?

I don’t, there’s no river Dart round there & the Bridge certainly doesn’t go over it.

Dart is thought to be a shortened version of the River Darent even though other nearby places are called Darenth.

There’s another ford across the Darent at Eynsford, and even further upstream at Otford.

It is likely that these fords were named after people.

If the same is true of Rufford, perhaps named after someone called Rufus, referring to Rufford Ford makes even less sense.

Our lane floods regularly and has claimed at least 2 neighbours cars (both BMWs) who thought they could make it! Last flood in November when the road was blocked by a flooded BMer a neighbour in their Discovery tried to bypass it via the adjacent field…….. had to be dragged out by tractor.

I will be interested to see how the EVs cope.
