Not yet a California owner but doing my frustratingly best. Having visited several dealers none seem to be able to demonstrate this extra which is £1200 plus. I like my sound and have always been used to Bose systems in my Audi cars. Is it worth it or do I get a Bose fitted independently? By the way I am not a regular computer user and not sure what all the faces and jumping banana mean! Oh I tried the search bit but came up with nothing so apologies if this is already out there somewhere. Many more questions I would like to aske but I will keep it simple for first attempt.

Hello

I have Dynaudio in one of my California's, you are more than welcome to come and have a play and listen. I personally don't think it's worth £1200. I have it in my wife's ED35 GTI and it's a better sounding system and only £400!

Thank you both Calikev and Oli for your quick and helpful replies. As mentioned just started and many questions but early start tomorrow! :thanks

One reason I didn't go for the Dynaudio (apart from not being able to compare it with the base system at my dealer) was that I was concerned it'd drain the battery down too quickly when used on site (this was before I knew about the irritating auto-off audio system :headwall ).

Here was my thinking at the time (apologies for any naive understanding of how things actually work ;) ):

To drain 30Ah from the 61Ah battery (these figures are doubtless unrealistic, but you get the idea):
RCD310: 80W amp/12V = 6.6A = 4.5h at max - so 18h for 25% load
Dynaudio: 640W amp (probably peak) - so /12V = 50A = 0.5h at max - so 2h for 25% load

CONs
High risk: the more powerful amp would inevitably drain the main battery more when parked without a hook-up.
High risk: may add delay to the build time.
High risk: very little information - a risky option as no-one seems to be able to maintain them.
Medium risk: not listed as a factory option in 2011/4 price list, but is in 2011/9 (at £1250).

PROs
Medium risk: How much would it cost to add it (or something similar) later? Probably more than £1250 inc labour, and it would mean discarding (wasting) the VW speakers.

INFO:
It's listed in German Cali 2011/11 brochure as:
"10 precise matched tweeters and mid-bass tone speakers [no sub]
paired with a 10-channel amplifier for powerful sound,
with an incredible 600 watts of power.
Compatible with RCD310, RNS315 and RNS510."

This current/old Dynaudio page says of the "Multivan" installation:
"The Dynaudio sound system features a 10 channel digital amplifier with 640 watts of power driving 10 Dynaudio premium loudspeakers."
"To enable maximum sound quality and optimum performance to be experienced at every seat, sophisticated DSP (Digital Signal Processing)
was specifically tuned for the vehicle's large interior.""

(I thought I'd put this in a post on the Audio Options thread but maybe I forgot or it didn't make it across from the old Proboards forum).

I'm happy with the RCD310 sound (which I'm assuming is the same as the same as the RCD510 as they've equivalent amps) - but would love to hear the DynAudio.

Best wishes,
Steve

I've had Bose in two Audi's and my current car has Bang & Olufsen, and whilst I think the sound is pretty good I don't think you should have an expectation that it might sound as good as their consumer systems.

I had a couple of Skoda Octavia vRS before that and found that the sound in those from the factory speakers coupled with RNS510 was as good if not better than Bose in the Audi S3's with RNS-E that I had.

With the Audi's it's quite important to have the sound system for resale purposes, one of the first questions you'll be asked at selling is 'Does it have Bose. does it have Nav?' but in the T5 I don't think this applies and you would never recoup any of the initial outlay.

Thanks Steve you have obviously considered something I hadn't ie the power drainage. I am looking for the sound quality as top priority. These guys that is Dynaudio got their system into the Buggatti Veyron so there must be something about it? However I later found they also go in the new Volvo 4 +4. That was disturbing. The thing is as I understand it has to be factory fitted to be incorporated into the build of the van not just adding a system later as other sound systems?
Thanks Stu for your help. Is the Bose in an S3 the same as an RS4? :crazy

You don't need Bose in an RS4, you simply drive with the windows open. That's all the music you need. :laugh2

I had BOSE in my RS4...... But I also had a Milltek

Automotive Porn :laugh2

I would rather listen to that than a Bose system any day :barmy

The engine is rubbish as giving traffic updates though... :D

I didn't even know about this option! The system sounds pretty good driven by the Kenwood MM option but the speakers definitely get mildly distorted at high volumes. Mind you it's often what's in the cupboards/cubby holes that dictates volume anyway! But definitely decent enough for an OEM system.
