Electric mountain bike mid life crisis

You have loads of answers I see. If no one has yet mentioned it I would go for the biggest powered battery you can afford
I have an Ebike which is great and husband also have one
If you are going up and down hills you don’t want to be stuck with a flat battery as they are pretty impossible to ride with no battery as incredibly heavy. Just a thought

Immediate thoughts....
1) Will the wide tyres fit on my vw t5 bike rack? Can I adapt the rails if not?
2) am I mad? I walk a lot, enjoy occasional flat rides on my modest hybrid decathlon bike.
3) what clothing do I need to start out?
4) who will raise my daughter if I kill myself
5) any other tips for getting started? I needed a hobby, the Peaks are on my door step and I've got a Cali!

Regarding the more major well known brands.... The thing that hasn't been discussed is availability. There is almost nothing in stock, especially once you've chosen your spec and sized frame, never mind colour. If you want to buy from a local retailer that you think will look after you, you could be waiting a long time.

I have two e-bikes a specialized turbo Vado and a ribble CGR ale both fit perfectly well on the VW tailgate mounted bike rack, the only challenge is getting the heavier e-bike up onto the rack. The ribble is easier as it’s lighter

We have haibikes and use an Atera Strada DL tow bar rack. All fits very well and we take the batteries off to keep the weight down. Buying an ebike 4 years ago is the best thing I’ve ever done. Always loved cycling anyway, more for exploring than keeping fit, but was having trouble with back and knees and have never not been able to ride it. I am much fitter than I was and it is the best mountain bike even without the electric I have ridden and my last bike was a Giant. Go for it you won’t regret it!

I’m 64 and got a Specialized Turbo Levo 2 years ago for £3.5k. I’ve got a regular MTB too, and they are both great in their own ways, but it’s loads more fun and you can go a lot further on the eMTB.

I’m in Hayfield and they’re are loads of great trails around too…

Living or just visiting? Any tips for getting up the bridleway from the campsite towards Mt Famine.... With yesterday's gusts blowing. Plenty (too much?) power, but either insufficient rear grip or brain was too on picking my path through the large loose rocks.

You need to keep your bum on the seat to stop the rear wheel spinning.

Buy a good helmet that fits properly: replace after any fall which results in head contact. If you ride alone consider a helmet fitted fall detector system such as the Specialized Angi system. Will notify an emergency contact if you have a bad fall. Also combine with the Specialized Ride app will give you ride data/ info and can combine with Wahoo GPS unit. But good gloves and I always ride in Endura Humvee 3/4 shorts. Great value, come with padded insert, virtually indestructible and double up as hiking pants/ camper vanning etc. carry multi tools and air cartridge. Go tubeless. No pinch punctures, ride a lower tyre pressure and have better traction/ grip.

As others said, bum on seat and choose a lower power setting too. If I use turbo on mine it nearly spits me backwards..!

Many thanks. I've managed to import it into my backcountrynavigator app (which I'll probably upgrade to something better now I can get much further). I know some of that route and had planned to explore beyond South Head. I now know how to complete the loop. Looks like one to try with a full battery and a nice bit of lunch! Thanks again.
