Engine Problems California T7 2.0TDI:
As posted on FB earlier :
Dovevamo ritirare il nostro California Beach 2.0 TDI la prossima settimana. Oggi ci chiama la concessionaria dicendoci che sono stati bloccati 990 mezzi a causa di un difetto di fabbrica da risolvere. Il difetto sarebbe un bullone del motore che si allenta subito o nel tempo e causa perdita d’olio e problemi al motore.. qualcuno ha avuto la stessa notizia? Avete qualche informazione in merito? Grazie a tutti
Volgende week onze California Beach 2.0 TDI moeten ophalen.

We have to pick up our California Beach 2.0 TDI next week. The dealer calls us today and tells us that 990 vehicles are blocked due to a factory defect that needs to be repaired. The defect would be an engine bolt that comes loose immediately or after some time and causes oil loss and engine problems.. Has anyone had the same news? Do you have information about this? Thanks to everyone

Sounds serious

Second part of that OP also reads:
"I also received the news today that the car, California Ocean 2.0TDI, that is ready at the dealer in Belgium, cannot be picked up due to possible problems with the engine (possible fire hazard). None of the cars that are ready may be delivered. Hopefully this can be checked/solved quickly? The problem would be with the crankshaft/camshaft."

OMG! is there a list of those chassis numbers involved?

I have and now I can't take the delivery of our new van. Was told the following by the dealer:

"On vehicles with a 2.0 litre TDI engine of a limited production period, a faultily produced oil seal can cause a significant oil leak in the area of the camshaft pulley."

"Therefore , the affected vehicles are blocked for registration to prevent delivery to the customer"

No word on solutions or timescales. Makes you wonder if you want the van.

It is not uncommon, honda goldwings have something similar, wrong spec of bolt inside engine, currently recalling affected models

This will literally be the start of a few threads of teething issues with a brand new vehicle design. For the brave the first year of ownership of a new design can be a hazardous time. The benefits. You are the early adopting few and have the very latest. The downsides, you will have to deal with early design issues. It’s a classic cycle and we saw it in Warranty at Nissan for every launch. Issues are the middle of a bell curve from 3 months in. Just stay calm. Everything gets fixed. You have a warranty. It will all be fine. The curve flattens after 12 months.

Surely they're just the same engines that've been in the Multivan for a while?
Agree on the other teething issues though :thumb

Who knows. The info at the moment is translated snippets and half conversations with dealers. It sounds like a production line issue where a part was fitted wrong and/or there is a faulty part. As factories get used to new engines, fitments and configurations there is a lot of standard operations and amendments flying about. It could just be a process issue, it may be there is a different fitment for a Cali due to additional electrics and other gubbins in the bay. Hard to say.

These motor problems seems to occur only with a small numbers of 2.0TDI engines (multiple models). After investigation of the motor : mine was not involved. I recieved the car yesterday. Everything works fine, good driving experience...
We had, in the last 3 years, 3 times rentde a T6.1 and were also a bit afraid with the possible lack of storage. But when we rented a T7 for 2 weeks in april, we were surprided with all the storage space. We travelled 2 adults and 1 big dag (Ridgeback). We left 1 chair out (behind de driver) so that we had more space and we were still able to use the lower bed. The fact that you can leave some chairs at home is a big advantage compared to the 6.1

My understanding is also that it is a very small batch of vehicles (including some fitted to the Multivan) so it’s engine specific, rather than California specific. I pick mine up Wednesday.
