Grand California camper control panel

Today we had a meeting in the dealership about all of our troubles with the control panel. Our major concern has been all the time the diesel heating which at random times cuts the heating at night when we are sleeping.

We have been waiting for almost 6 months now and there has been no solution or fix to this and most likely this behavior is one of the failures in the control panels software. Dealership said that there are several cars with same kind of weird failures all relating to the control panel.

Anyhow VW has returned our money from our opted Truma diesel heater which was 1240eur. They returned the money even the fault isn't in the heater. Dealership has no info when the actual problem with the control panel is fixed, so we agreed to wait for the fix until December. Then we will sit down again and have a discussion if we are going to return the whole car to the dealer.
Have you had any further news
Our van does exactly the same ,turning heating off at night.

There is no known fix from VW regarding the heating cutting off issue. The only workaround is to unplug the communication cable from the back of the Truma control panel and control the heating from the Truma screen. Bit of a pain but at least it won’t cut out in the night.

Give me a shout Simon if you need to know more.

Would be lovely to know what the actual issue is as couple of weeks before Christmas we had a long weekend in the Cotswolds which was cold and snowing so has the heating and hot water on for four days/nights nonstop and never cut out at all in that time.

Just doing a bit of data collecting on that - Did you ever lock your van via the key fob central locking ?

Key fob and in camping mode if that matters

Thanks. Similar experiences here. Never seen the problem so just seeing if there is a common thread in how we use the vans. I know my Wi-Fi switches off about 20 minutes after using the key fob to lock the van, independent of hookup status. I’ve assumed that’s a feature not a fault as it’s consistent and has a degree of logic.

My Wi-Fi is exactly the same ie 20 minutes after leaving and locking but stays on if you internally lock from the bed.

Our heating cuts out randomly on hook-up (approx once every 3 or 4 days).
I don't mind but the dog looks pretty unhappy when we wake up and the van is freezing.
The heating always 'kicks back in' fine but sometimes the hot water refuses to work for a while.
I haven't tried disconnecting the comm's wiring yet but I will if we're away and it's sub-zero inside/outside..

Do you both have diesel/electric Trumers?

The demo GC600 we had from VW (their press demo) had diesel heating and it cut out the night before we went away, as we left it on overnight at home because we'd filled the van with water and didn't want it to dump it. Heating cut out and it did dump the water! After this we unplugged the CP cable from the back of the truma panel and it worked (via the truma panel) flawlessly for whole time we were away.

Hello,

Over the Christmas period I wanted to keep the heating on to ensure that it is not getting too cold and dump in the camper. But of course it didn't turn out as planned.

Only on leisure battery
  • heating on, temperature 10 degree = cut out every 1 - 2 days
  • warm water (40 degree) = cut out every 1 - 2 days
On hook up
  • heating on, temperature 10 degree = cut out every 1 - 2 days
  • warm water (40 degree) = cut out every 1 - 2 days
I have the Truma gas heater (no electric option).

As normal Volkswagen Ireland does not want to take this on, neither does the VW dealer (which is understandable, because VW dealers need to follow procedures to ensure to get their work paid from Volkswagen Ireland).

Last weekend we went for a short trip to Connemara and of course the heater cut out. When we woke up in the morning there was 6 degrees in the camper.

The only way to avoid this is to implement the workaround, which I hope I will implement soon, just waiting for a cable.

Cold Grand California,
Eberhard

hello guys,
I have a problem with a GC600, control panel isn't working anymore :
no water display, battery is at "5v" but 12v really and nothing work (light, water pump because 5v....)
thumbnail_IMG_8581.jpg
thumbnail_IMG_8583.jpg
after 10h water level switch to wrong value (without doing anything)
I have tried to switch on/off, disconect both battery.... nothing
thumbnail_IMG_8579.jpg
strange things when I do a check with vcds thoose values (J608) :
1- "shut off switch" activated
2- "voltage of motorhome cell" 0v ?
3- "voltage of loaded pump" 23v ?!
ce6fbb80-24fb-40bc-8769-4a8c712bda46.JPG
I have checked all fuses, everything OK
Anyone have similar issue ? it make me crazy....

I started this thread in march 21....a few months after I purchased my 680. I was concerned about how this would play out as these vehicles exited warranty. Guess we will find out soon as VW have done absolutely Jack about this well recognised software glitch.
Shocking really

Have you tried unplugging the blue plug under the passenger dash (power off big red switch, remove blue plug, wait a few minutes, plug back in, switch power back on, cross fingers!). It seems to be a fix for many things.

hi !
passenger LHD or RHD ?
I have unplugged all connectors (include a small blue one) from J608 (special fonction) and big red switch and disconnected both battery...

LHD. Sounds like you’ve already tried it.

It’s on the left hand side irrespective of LHD or RHD vehicle.
If you’ve disconnected both batteries too I would suggest you put everything back on and go for a short drive and see if everything settles down.

yes.... for information security access of J608 is 20103
anyone with vcds can help me ?
found on german forum thoose values and want to do somes comparaison with others GC... :
mine was absolutely wrongly coded (68ah for exemple....)

according to TOM50354 + caliboard.de
J608 cannot be recoded with vcds even if there is no error or something else
I have coded from 68ah to 92ah (from factory 2x 92ah) it's probably the issue....
I don't know why it was coding to 68ah....

need to go to vw dealer, there is new update 0501 hopefully can solve my problem

I'm back, after waiting 2 month for an appointement,
=> odis re parameterization everything work

(vw give me back the van and tell me that isn't working.... they doesn't know how it's work...)
