Height Restricted Car Parks - Fit for a California.

interested to see the Hyde Park one is high enough... often considered whether I could park the van there and spend the night after a big night out on the sauce. Anyone tried?
They do have security staff wandering around, and if you saw some of the vehicles parked there you would understand why.:thumb

This is really useful info. Would a spreadsheet or database be better than thread posts, is that easier to do here ? Then could search by airports, cities, countries etc. Maybe make available to VIP members to recoup any admin/hosting costs.

Just a suggestion.
Do you think about a list like on google docs? I guess it would be hard to check/control this form however maybe useful source? Or is it easier these days to google something directly?

I just use the search facility on google maps or the website: https://en.parkopedia.com/

The limitations and restrictions for each car park are listed, and so far - all the car parks I've visited have been as stated, although I always make an assessment when I'm at my chosen car park, especially once inside, as some have electrical trunking or signs that hang lower than the car park ceiling. That said, so far so good for me.

We are going to Brighton in August for a wedding so will be looking for 48 hr parking in the area of the Lanes any advice on price and height restrictions in that area would be much appreciated ?

There are many CarParks with a 2 m or more Height Restriction. I’m happy to park in any car park with a 2m restriction. So what about a thread of Car Parks with a 2 / 2.1 m Restriction that YOU have parked in PERSONALLY in your California?

Millennium Square Car Park, Harbourside, Bristol. 2m - absolutely no problem on the 2 levels.

Mermaid Quay Car Park, Cardiff Bay. 2m - no problems.

Hyde Park Car Park, Off Park Lane, London. 2.08 m, OUTSIDE Conjestion Zone. No problems at all.

Marble Arch Car Park, Off Marble Arch, London. 2.08 m, OUTSIDE Conjestion Zone. No problems at all.

In my experience if a sign says 2 metres, that’s the minimum clearance and it’s usually greater. I always carry a 5metre tape to be on the safe side though!

Gatwick Airport South Terminal short stay car park 3 - 2m restriction. No problem. Park on the top floor and you should be able to park near the lifts.

Barrier says 1.96m but no problem in our 4Mo Ocean.
Fair enough, but... Just remember that the height on the sign at the entrance may refer to the lowest point WITHIN the carpark, not just the entrance barrier.

I've been in carparks that had favourable height indicators outside and an entry barrier that was no problem, only to then find conduits, lights and such like on the carpark ceiling that reduced the height clearance a fair bit.

Another risk is when going up or down the ramps to the next parking level, where the height clearance there can often be reduced as the wheels go onto/ off the ramp. I'm forever opening the driver's door and stepping onto the doorstep to check the clearance when I'm approaching low points in these places... Cant be too careful and the signs are only a guide after all :)

A problem I had here in Switzerland with one car park which was indicated at 2m, was that the swinging metal sign hanging from heavy chains, hit the back of the awning. There was quite a downward slope immediately after the sign and as the cali went down, the back of the awning touched( or maybe it was the roof) the sign and caused a big noise. Thankfully no damage, but scary. I am wary of 2m signs since that.

Never, ever trust the height &/or width warnings in Spanish car parks (particularly underground).

In a previous life as a steering wheel attendant on lorries heights were very important. I have had to drop the air suspension once as a 13'11" trailer under a 14' bridge is a bit nerve racking. A three point turn was not an option. Also always check they haven't resurfaced the road and added 1/2 " of tarmac to confuse the issue!
As for the 1.95m height of our mobile teapots, had to get into local park with 2m barrier recently. Went in, just, but coming out the front of the van dropped over the paving edges which tipped the back end up enough to 'ping' the plastic end cap of the Thule awning. I got out expecting a mess but it was a fag paper thickness kiss which only marked the plastic , polished out, so as @Sonas has pointed out be wary....

Me too Eddie. Loaded ice cream in Namysłow near Wrocsław. Coming back there was a bridge in Brzeg marked 3.7 metres but all the Poles were going through so I did, gingerly!
On the California I’ve had VB air suspension fitted and on “car park” mode it goes down to 1.8 metres.

I bottled at the Bath park and ride 2m barrier at Christmas, looked too close for comfort. The barrier had taken aHit which might have lowered it!. Anyone else experienced that car park?

Pleased to see 2m is ok though especially as having just got my liber t pass for the French motorways and 2m keeps me in class 1!

Thanks for the thread
Ken

Barry Island, Barry, South Wales. 2 car parks for All Day Parking.
Harbour Front and Nells Point. Both 2.1 m height restriction.
Cost £1 for 1 hr or £6 over 1 hr up until 2300 hrs.

There's one in Launceston Cornwall marked as 2m. It's got a wooden beam suspended on chains as the barrier and it touched the roof. Wouldn't recommend that one. (pictured below curtesy of Google maps)

Called there on the way to Falmouth last April for a pit stop but as we couldn't park we went to the PIE stop at the industrial estate off the A30 instead. Would recommend that.

Has anyone gone into the car park at The Oracle in Reading? Website says 2.1m but I know there are a lot of ramps in there!

Just realised that as we’ve had a Cali on loan whilst ours is in for repair for the last month we should have been touring the country trying out the 2m limit car parks.
