Height Restricted Car Parks - Fit for a California.

Interesting. So there must be a sensor somewhere on the Manual roof?
I'm only guessing but it might only be with the extended lighting package, that has a sensor as if the roof is lowered the roof lights are automatically switched off.

I guess so. There is loud prolonged audible beep when you turn the key. I think there may have been door light on the dash to but I would need to double check that.

I’ve been into the main multi-storey in Bolton town centre, no idea what it is called! Marked as 2m clearance, it’s a bit tight getting round corners inside but the height was no problem.

In Aberdeen, the car park on College Street is also fine in my Cali, despite the disconcerting fact that many of the beams slope so are higher at one side of the lane than the other!
I have not yet braved any of the other multi-storey car parks in Aberdeen as they are all marked as 1.9m. So is the entrance to the outdoor car park at Dunnottar Woods in Stonehaven, but I can get under that with a good 10cm clearance. However there I know that the barrier is the only height restriction- in a multi-storey you never know when you will come across a low beam!
I will not be attempting Denburn car park, as my Dad already got us stuck in there when he forgot he had borrowed my roof box for his Seat Alhambra. I ended up having to dismantle the roof bars to get the box off in the car park, as we didn’t have the keys for the box, and couldn’t get back out with it still on the car…

How stuck?
Could removing air from tyres have done the trick?

I believe this is Arundel Gate Sheffield
1hr - £4.50, 4 - 5 hrs £17.50
Avoid.

Q-park Rockingham Street is 2.1m. Still feels like you’re getting a scalping though.

Haven’t tried the cheese grater, but it says it’s 2m. Backed away from Durham Road, the entrance is on a cross slope and I touched the warning barrier.

With the demise of John Lewis in town, don’t anticipate using any of them again anytime soon.

Not really the right topic here, but just a word of warning.
I have a T6.1 Beach with lights in the rooftop ceiling (2 at the front, 1 at the back), but when the roof is being lowered, the lights don’t switch of automatically. I’m using those lights to light-up when closing my roof to have a good view inside the pop-top and make sure the tent is coming inside as it is supposed to be. At the end of the operation, I have to switch the lights off manually!
Haven’t tried driving with the roof up, so no idea of any warning.

You are correct, I have just read the manual, on a manual roof the roof lights turn of when the van gets to 10kph, the electric roof when the roof is partially down.
Sorry for some reason iPhone pics always come out sideways.

Frimley Park Hospital multi-storey visitor car park. T5 fits but might be tight in a T6.1 as it now claims 2.0m 6’5” but clearance more once under barrier.

Parking La Concha Telpark by Empark

San Sebastian.

T6 with Thule roof bars, no problems.

2m restriction at Queen Alexandra hospital - Portsmouth.

My van - with solar panels on the roof - clipped the loose hanging sign, but otherwise had plenty of space above.

Has anyone tried the 6'6" multi-storey car park in centre of Tenby (SA70 7DW)?

There are many CarParks with a 2 m or more Height Restriction. I’m happy to park in any car park with a 2m restriction. So what about a thread of Car Parks with a 2 / 2.1 m Restriction that YOU have parked in PERSONALLY in your California?

Millennium Square Car Park, Harbourside, Bristol. 2m - absolutely no problem on the 2 levels.
https://www.millenniumsquarecarpark.co.uk/

Mermaid Quay Car Park, Cardiff Bay. 2m - no problems.

Hyde Park Car Park, Off Park Lane, London. 2.08 m, OUTSIDE Conjestion Zone. No problems at all.

Marble Arch Car Park, Off Marble Arch, London. 2.08 m, OUTSIDE Conjestion Zone. No problems at all.

While we’re at it…

Dublin, Ireland
Dublin Airport Terminal 2 multi-storey:
2m - works fine. Not for those anxious navigating multi-storey car parks however as you’ll most likely have to go up several levels to find a space and have to use those spiralling ramp with tight concrete walls on either side to go up and down levels.

Note that the Terminal 1 multi-storey car park is limited at 1.9m. I wouldn’t try.

Lidl Cork Street underground car park:
2m - no problem.

Access to Poolbeg (for the Shelley Banks beach, great south wall and Poolbed lighthouse):
1.85m height barrier. A California will fit but you must stick as far left as you possibly can when going under the barrier. I typically get close to the barrier, then reverse and use the side mirror to get as close to the pavement as possible without scratching the wheels then go forward under the barrier.

Skerries Red Island car parks:
2m height barrier - no problem. Spectacular 360 degrees view over the sea when on the far east car park. One of the best wild camping places in the area - and you’re on your own as the bigger vans can’t get in.

I'm hoping that someone has actually tried it with a Cali. My concern is that there might be lower points within the car park (based on one of the reviews given below). The height at the point of entry (with the 6'6" warning signage) appears (on Google maps) to be considerably higher than 6'6". So I'm uncertain whether the person who complained about hitting their roof box mistakenly believed they were under 6'6" because they managed to pass beneath the higher entrance point but later came a cropper when then really encountered the 6'6" limit. Or are they correct in suggesting that there are low spots within?

In the other review there isn't much to go on (type/height of van) so I imagine they made the same assumption that the entrance was actually 6'6" and thereby safe to enter.

Sainsbury in Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, Gillingham, Kent. There's a limit of 1.99m, but I drove in a car which had side awning with mount kit at 2.02m.

Brighton Road West Car Park, Lancing. Sign says 2.00m, but I drove in in the same car as above which is 2.02m.

A couple of open air car parks in Tenby - I wouldn’t risk this whatever anyone now says!

Thanks Azteccamper! We're actually staying in an hotel for 3 nights (shame on us) whilst attending the Blues Festival, and were hoping to get the van as close as possible to the hotel but I agree, I won't take the risk and use one of the open air, no height restriction car parks a little further afield.

That’s a new one on me - looks a great weekend. Enjoy.

Thanks, it's a first for us. We're heavily into northern soul and rhythm and blues but thought this would be a little different.
