** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

Just arrived home safe and sound after a very smooth handover, no faults that I’ve found so far, took the checklist - doesn’t take long to do, I’m sure I’ve missed a few bits.

Took a lovely leisurely drive home across country, with a huge smile on my face :) really pleased with all the options I chose, apple maps got me home faultlessly through CarPlay.

Oh, you want pictures?

It’s been well worth the wait, and it’s home in time for Easter which is a real bonus, just lots of day trips planned at the moment, starting with a trip down to the coast between Bexhill and Eastbourne on Good Friday.

Now, off to sit in the funky bus and play with all of the buttons. :cheers

Massive thank you to all on the forum, particularly the regulars on this thread - you’ve kept me sane. :thanks

Looks great. Wheels and lowering look just right too!

So how many who have picked their vehicles up were asked to pay the extra VED?

Like others have said, ours was £550 to us because that was our original deal but more for the dealer.

Looks great, a real FuNKy bus! :thumb

I'm due to pickup soon as well, and wondering how to check this on a Beach? I can't remember if it will have the same control panel as the Ocean or not..?
You can't unfortunately. If you have specced the Parking Heater then you could try firing that up at the Dealership?
If it doesn't fire up then they should be able to check that it is the battery and not the Heater by plugging into the mains or starting the engine and try the Heater again. Crude I know but simple.

Check the awning legs fit inside the casing easily when stowed away too :thumb

locking levers have been modified to get your finger under easier and this was stopping the legs from folding away

Yeah, I'll have a look to this too.. As I've never tried to unfurl one of these awnings, I'm not 100% sure what you're meaning. Probably it will become clear when I try it before handover thanks to your advice :thumb

I'm thinking now that possible these new curved levers should have been fitted turned 180 degrees round. Then the sticky out bit would have been on the bottom where there is more room. However, when erected they would be on the outside, possibly causing problems with some awning rooms.

I’m so busy at work I haven’t had that much time to think about it to be honest. I’m at work tomorrow morning for a meeting and then driving up to Leeds at about 12 or 1ish having the afternoon off. Probably best as with a 3pm pickup i’d be climbing the walls at home in the morning!!

Ours was down as £550 on the order, but it was actually £800. Dealer didn’t even mention it or ask for any more money; also gave us a full tank of fuel for the delay from Friday.

HOWEVER!

  • Leisure batteries completely flat, dealer has said he will replace them when I told him they’re probably ruined. I found out why - someone must have switched on the silly kitchen cupboard lights and left them on, you wouldn’t see them when the cupboard doors are shut.
  • The awning legs wouldn’t fold in, for some reason the plastic locking levers have been modified to get your finger under easier and this was stopping the legs from folding away. Dealer replaced them with the ones off his demo which were the original flat type. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?
  • Swirl marks on paint (holograph effect) - dealer said he will sort when it comes in for new batteries (I hope they come out OK)

Apart from that - pleased!

Lovely!!!

Thanks for this. Be interested to here if any similar experiences. This is certainly not anything our dealer here in aNersey has any info on. I would have thought there must be plenty of other people ordering a 150 manual beach...be good to see their letters.

We ordered a 150 TDI Manual Beach in mid August hoping for delivery in March. It arrived at the dealers much earlier, end of October. They agreed to hold it until we had sold our existing T5.1. By the time we did the registration block was in force. When we got the letter from VW (17/03/2018) a DSG was against our order number. We questioned this and were told, as others have been, A DSG with the same spec. had been ordered. Pushing a bit more for a delivery date of this new one we are now being told that they are going to register the original manual that has been sat at the dealers all this time for a handover this coming Thursday. Not sure we want to accept. Why would VW go to the trouble and expense of building a second vehicle with a DSG box if they are now going to give the green light to register the manual.

Its not trouble or expense though, its no different to building any other Cali.
Presumably they have found a way of making a manual comply with whatever they previously thought it didn't comply with.

Agreed. My point was there are now 2 Cali's built to our spec. (one manual and one DSG). I would be interested to know if the others who had a manual actually built but told a DSG was built or is being built for them instead are now being given the manual after all.

I know I have seen at least one other on this thread that has had a manual sat at the dealers and now a DSG is en route for them.

Are you going to ask to test both and then decide which you prefer? Or are they telling you that you have to have the original order/pay more for the auto?

Yes, work has rather got in the way of my enjoyment so far. Still roll on the weekend, 4 days of uninterrupted California fun!

All the best for the collection and look forward to the photos! :thumb

Today is the big day... not that I am counting the hours until 3pm of course :(
We're on our way too... Like a couple of kids at Christmas!

Checklists at the ready... Good luck!
