Lane Change Assist - 2024 week 3 build date

I'm sure I saw some reference to it in the online brochure (October 2023) when we were about to place our order.
But it wasn't fitted to our 2024 build Ocean.
Based on previous experience with the same system fitted to a Subaru Levorg and a Skoda Superb I owned, I can't say I miss it.
It was fine on motorways/dual carriageways, but a PITA on country roads where I do most of my driving. Always kicking in when not required and quite off-putting.
Just like the Stop/Start disable button, it was another disable button to press before each journey.

I don't understand whether you paid for it or not; if yes then you should obviously get some compensation.

As to many owners finding it annoying, I don't think it's an accurate characterisation. Many owners (like me) find that it doesn't work as it should and that's where the annoyance is coming from. The system doesn't understand curves and tunnels. The camera's perceives them as a narrow road and places the centre of the road off to the right or left of where it actually is. To avoid the system "correcting" you, you need to get ahead of it and steer towards the inside of the curve. Who needs that stress?
There was no option to add it - with a costing - just an option to delete it (at no cost). I did not delete it - so expected it to have been fitted.

As it was not fitted - I consider it reasonable I get financial compensation.

500 seems about right?

I'll never know if I find it helpful/performs as it should or not I guess :)

I persnally have found it very handy on motorways and dual carriageways. It is simple to switch on and off via steering wheel controls - dead simple. As others have said it is useless on our small country lanes here in Norfolk. I particularly like Side Assist which seems to also warn of traffic when reversing out onto my narrow country road.

Thanks. It certainly sounds like a good idea to me. An oversight on my part is potentially bad news.

Hi, i have a similar issue where i assumed the spec meant it would come with lane keep, it didn’t. Would anyone that has lane keep or sign recognition know the part number of the camera for the crafter? I happen to have the correct windscreen with mounting so am looking to retrofit. Thanks.

Hi

Can I please ask, is there anyone out there that should have had "Lane Assist" installed, but when the vehicle arrived it was missing and what was the process to get it configured?

As I am starting to wonder is it worth the hassle and a week, seems a long time to me.......

My current situation is:

Last Spring/Summer we purchased a new GC680 in the UK.

I was advised that the vehicle would have “Lane Assist”, so after getting familiar with all the settings I searched the menu but could not find it.

I have contacted the dealer and after many months, they agreed it should be there and to investigate it I will need to leave my van with them for approx. 1 week.

Questions:

Am I missing something and could this be on a hidden menu?

(On the radio display screen, if I check under the assist option, I have blind spot is there & front when setting the speed) – No Lane Assist!

A week seems a long time to investigate and configure ?

(Am I being unreasonable or does this mean they will investigating when they have free time).

Are there any technicians out there to advise on timescales and what the process entails, as surely they can check a build number remotely on their systems, then if I drive to the garage they then have the opportunity to plug one of their testers/consoles in configure or update the system taking an hour or so?

Just after some advice really and has anyone had a similar experience.

Thanks

My thoughts are that it is worth having and i am beginning to think that it should have been fitted to my van, but wasn't.
Whilst it may be annoying on a country lane, it can be turned off, and is potentially a real life saver when on a larger road.
At the point of ordering I recall thinking it was a very good option and was glad it would be on my new van...
I also think it is reasonable for it to be sorted by VW, and that to get it sorted should not require your van to be at the dealership for a week!

Starting to sound like the 2 years I spent trying to get my dealer to install ACC that was missing from my van: https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/acc-has-gone-missing.45115/page-2#post-720537

I eventually threatened to sue, at which point they admitted that everything they had been telling me were lies, that they couldn’t install ACC if it hadn’t been fitted at the factory and they gave me a decent cash compensation and a few other bits and pieces.

They don’t need the van to know if Lane Assist was fitted at the factory. They can check in a few seconds by running the VIN into their system.

If it hasn’t been fitted at the factory, then I doubt they’ll be able to retrofit. But there again, it’s Lane Assist and it’s a Crafter so I don’t know about that feature specifically.

If it was fitted at the factory but is somehow faulty, then I imagine that troubleshooting could take a bit of time. But to be honest, it sounds odd that it would be fitted but not showing up anywhere. In any case, in those situations, I would personally expect the dealer to take the van for a day to diagnose and then tell me about next steps (more diagnosis needed or parts needed or it’s fixed). It’s certainly how things have always worked for me.

It took tenacity, but you got there in the end. Excellent.
