Anyone know anything about the latest recall on the 204 engine. Mine is a 2023 204 4 Motion and it needs something in the software that protects the turbo apparently, booked in later this month? The dealer did say it I had had it mapped it would overwrite the map (good job I haven't yet) ;)

I wasn't aware there had been any failures etc?

I also have a 2023 204 4 Motion but have not heard anything.

Ditto so I checked the gov.uk website and it doesn't state a recall for my van either. I wonder what the manufacturing cut off date is?

I've just had a service @vw and they have done mine at the same time. 2024 T6.1 204 ocean I asked what it was and they said something to do with the turbos.

The Government website will only flag Formal Safety Recalls, this is more likely to be a proactive service action to prevent customer failures / warranty costs and only the dealers will have insight into what they are and what vehicles they specifically apply to.(in the UK)

People use the term "recall" liberally, which is understandable. A recall is a legal safety item that is logged with the government and best efforts via sending letters to all registered owners MUST be carried out to get the vehicles in and the safety issue fixed. Think Takoma airbags or accelerator pedals (that ended up a user error thing anyway).

This is a more likely a service bulletin and can be done as and when, usually at next service or, depending on your dealer, sometimes not at all. Given they get a small set payment to do them from the OEM, they quite happy to do as many as they can but from memory they are not allowed to "tout" for you to come in and do it.

I just emailed my local dealer ( Breeze VW Poole ) and Nick in service called me to arrange a booking. Apparently it's called internally a 2BB software update performed by the dealer . Something to do with pressure regulation/monitoring . It can be a while you wait update taking up to 1.5hrs. I'm booked for Jan 20th.

Is this particularly for 6.1 4 motion or all 6.1 ?

On the infomation site it only refers to it being for Crafter 6.1 and Grand California bi-turbo engines, no mention of California Oceans. I'll ask at our next service as you had it done on your Ocean.

Agreed, there is no specific mention of California Oceans but I guess they’re included under the T6.1 umbrella.

I am in on the 26th for mine to be done at the same time as the Gearbox Oil, will let you have any details I have after that. I was told its not a safety issue per se but it can cause the turbo's to damage your engine.

On another thread I found out that the Gearbox oil change doesn't include the filter (as its difficult to get to apparently) I am paying about £30 more for the filter to be changed too.

Booked our 24 204 4motion in for service and like others was told about the recall, this is the info I’ve been sent about it.

Reason for field campaign:
On Crafter and T6.1 models with bi-turbo a software update of the engine control unit is planned.
The new software includes, amongst other things, the implementation of a diagnosis function that allows early detection of deviations in the pressure development of the fuel high-pressure system. In the event of a deviation the customer is informed via the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), in order to prevent possible consequential damage.Furthermore, a more robust calibration of the pressure regulating valve is included, in order to avoid triggering the diagnosis function above in unfavourable tolerance constellations.
Robustness measures are also installed and functions are improved or updated as part of the update:
•
Erratic idle speed
•
Improvement of the maintenance interval by adaptation of the soot content of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) in heating mode
•
Oil level max. detection
•
Convenience features of the SCR system (SCR range, refuelling detection, dosing ventilation)
•
More robust functions and improved diagnosis of exhaust flap, coolant bleeder and turbocharger
