Leaking pop tops on 2023 California Oceans

post #3696 reported the 05S bellows leaked
I think this Is this the only reported O5S forum reported leak so far and then it was a self test with hosepipe so not sure of the test set up? What was the follow up?
So far surely no news is good news?
can anyone confirm or claim otherwise?
It hasn’t been a glorious summer so far so good exposure to elements and there must be O5S replacements or new vans with them already Installed?
what’s the news out there ?
I was also at a Dealers yesterday who believed the O5S had fixed the issue from their experience so far…but I know some of us have heard all that before?
Lets Poole our info for an up to date review of O5S

My 05S is being fitted this week by my pragmatic and helpful Dealer service manager. My 03S was a slight leaker, fixed with Fabsil / Aquatex but the rubber seal at the bottom developed a slight tear, so the Service Manager said to replace it under warranty for 'peace of mind'. So I'm watching 05S comments with interest. PS. All my 03S testing was in real rain rather than hosepipe...

Keep us all posted with your findings and fingers crossed for you this time .

Hoorar - found my 22 year T6.1 Ocean has the 02S bellows so looking forward to/hoping no leaks when we go away to Scotland in Sept!

Report on the 05S bellows on my new Ocean, they didn't leak this weekend during a rain storm with winds of 20mph directly blowing at the passenger side. So good news!

I previously had a Coast with the 03S bellows and that was fine for the first year but then started leaking like a sieve. They got change under warranty to the 04S and they didn't leak.

My Ocean is now in for the 05S bellows to be fitted. Dealer is not accepting any other versions from VW as replacements. 1 litre bottle of Aquatex arrived on Friday, ready for seam spraying over the weekend

Very interesting question @lohr500. I've been thinking about that. We know Aquatex works, we are still not 100% convinced about any of the bellows. An untreated 05S would be a useful trial. Interested to hear views on the forum -
I have just ordered my Aquatex. I will treat the bellows as soon as I get our new van home. It is best applied to clean bellows.

I just take the view that for ten quid I can be happy that the bellows are water proof rather than find out on a trip away that they are not. I don't feel the urge to know if I could have saved ten quid.

In the name of science a pretreatment test is absolutely required. Do it.

Don't think a quick wetting in the rain is going to compromise the efficacy of the seam sealant.

As above.

Please test them before applying the Aquatex if at all possible.

It would be very helpful to others who are holding back on getting their 04S (or earlier) bellows replaced to know how the 05S version performs as supplied and prior to any additional treatment.

The 04S bellows on March delivery van got wet and leaked several times before I applied the Aquatex (after letting the bellows dry out thoroughly for a few days in dry weather).

Touch wood, no further leaks. So as per @Corradobrit comments, I also don't think the Aquatex effectiveness will be compromised if the bellows get wet and dry out a few times before applying the Aquatex.

You should test it without. Our third 03S bellows are totally watertight and have been really hammered in the wet. Seems like the problem gets less every iteration...

Would be v useful to know how the raw version stands up.

I just picked up at weekend so not tested in rain yet. As expected it is fitted with 05S. I am not going to spray or treat them yet. I would rather know if they leak or not. If they do leak then get the issue logged and accepted by VW. Then decide what to do.

Planning on taking a few large towels on my first few trips just in case.

Once tested in rain I will update on here either way so those waiting for delivery can be informed.

You shouldn't have too many problems finding some rain to test them in the Lakes! Fingers crossed.
But the really big question is - did you get the ‘Last Edition’ badge??

No last edition badge. Ordered mid March, delivery mid June so there are still a fair few coming through the factory.

The A probably stands for "Aquatex"
You never know!? :)
Mine rocked up at the dealer very end of May and I’m collecting early July so I’m now hoping I’ve got an ‘A’…daft really!…and I’ve just got to wait .
