Nearly new T6 Ocean or New Coast??

If you had the budget, would you go for a decent spec T6 Ocean or a basic spec but brand new Coast? For arguments sake lets just say they both cost £55k

I’d try find another £5k and order a new T6.1 Ocean (basic spec but can probably done via a broker).
 
Factor in the luxury car tax that will probably apply to the T6, and a brand new T6.1 Ocean will not be much more.
 
I like the idea of the manual roof.
Just depends how big the difference is in spec. What else is missing on the Coast compared to Ocean...?
 
If you drive the new T6.1 I think you would definitely go for that. The new dashboard together with the electromechanical steering IMO makes the driving experience almost car like and I was instantly converted on a test drive. It also means there are a lot of safety features now built in and many extras as standard. If you haven't already, take a test drive.... If you don't find much of a difference in the driving experience, (presume you have driven a T6) buy a T6 Ocean, you'll get a much better deal.
 
I had a quick look at the T6.1 Coast spec and I'm struggling to see what it's missing compared to a standard T6 Ocean.

Manual roof definitely seems like a positive.
 
I had two previous T6 Oceans, and recently moved to a 6.1 Coast; very happy with the manual roof over the electric version. Some other improvements which I like; the new dash/cockpit, the main control panel, the sliding door ‘picture window’ (gives a better view out than the sliding version), lounge bed etc. Not one regret about changing.
 
Coast makes sense as many of the previous Ocean have been 'rolled' over. Manual roof would also save some weight giving a bit more load capacity. Any other issues such as wheels can easily be changed/upgraded later.
Resale will also be a factor to consider. Badge makes a difference in status as Ford proved decades ago with GT & E badges on their cars.
No easy answer.

Got the configurator to work on Desktop (though it doesn't work on Safari on a Mac, I mean, come on VW..)

The Ocean is very well spec'd, I'd only need to adjust a few items (tow bar prep) but essentially a Basic Spec'd Ocean would do for sure.

Comes to £65k before haggling / finance deals. All this talk of £75k / £80k for a Cali, well not sure what boxes are being ticked, seems very unnecessary.

Spec'd up a Coast which came to £58k. That's a huge difference, so the Coast is definitely a good option.

Does it have pretty much the same kit. Parking Heater, front and rear zircon etc etc...?
Not a fan of the electric roof myself and i could be persuaded if the Coast is configurable with the bigger engine and 4motion.

Ok, so scanned it through. Seems the Camping features are exactly the same for the Coast / Ocean. Including heater etc. the only camping difference is the manual roof.

Don't quote me on that though.
 
OK, I really need to get back to work.

However, from scanning the doc again.

The Coast is spec'd like an old California from 2010-2015, you have to add some things people would consider essential, like:

Parking Sensors
Privacy Glass (not 100% sure what comes as standard)
Heated Seats (well for me at least)
Maybe AirCon, can't tell what's standard.
App Connect / CarPlay (I can't tell if CarPlay is standard, I wouldn't want to be without it)

To answer the OP's question if it was me I'd go for a brand new Coast over and above a second hand T6.

Don't forget to take out the extended 5 year warranty, it's a bargain!

I think possible air con, instead of 3 zone climatic, no front opening roof bellows on Coast, says fixed side windows...?
Biggest problem, no 199bhp engine or 4motion.

Im guessing there's quite a bit missing between the two models unfortunately...

Different colour/trim to cupboards and wardrobe etc.
 
A 150 DSG ocean is £8k more than a coast, out of the things that come on a Ocean as standard but are extra on a coast I would want as a minimum:
£270 roof front window
£370 Heated seats
£468 Digi Cockpit
£760 Interior lights package
£300 reversing camera
£1300 LED lights
£990 3 zone aircon
£350 privacy glass.
total £4808

If I was bothered about front Foglights £462 or discover media £ 1338 it would make the difference even less.

That doesn't take into account things like, you cant have a Sliding door opening window on a coast or double glazing & I would actually prefer an electric roof.

So for me it would be a no-brainer, Ocean please.

Missed Parking Sensors too I believe

Though £3k is still a fair gap.
 
I think parking sensors are standard, its the park assist that you get extra with the ocean.

I would bet that the ocean would be worth more than £3k more come resale time. The extras won't increase the value of the coast.

Correct regarding parking sensors, my mistake.

I'd defo agree on the £3k extra for the Ocean in the future.

That said, I'd still take a new Coast over a 2nd hand Ocean, which was the original question :)

Starting to be quite a lengthy list.

Having owned both roofs. I prefer the manual.
However, i can't deny the powered roof has its advantages. I remember having a couple of surfboards on the old manual roof and i did make popping it, a bit more of a challenge.

So if you carry anything up top. Solar panels, surfboards or roof boxes. Then perhaps the electric roof isn't a bad option to own...
 
I'd go Ocean as it won't be calling the emergency services all the time like the Coast. :Iamsorry
