New T6.1 order delays

My completely unfounded pet theory is that VW may prioritise Californias for he UK market to avoid the Brexit deadline / 10% import duties and the potential of mass cancellations. The UK govt have said that any vehicle built and ready to ship, even if it is not in the country, will be exempt from import duty.

Regarding your 2nd point on 10% import tax can I ask where youve seen this? Thanks

Just had this reply from VW Chat re my original week 20 build o_O, ordered February.
I have checked this for you and can see that your order has been accepted at the factory and has a Unconfined Build Week 42 which is the week commencing October 12, 2020.

I have also spoken to the VW chat this morning and have a un-confirmed build week of 41 (oct 5th)

does anyone know how long it takes to build a California? im assuming delivery now will be mid November? :(

From web chat today, they've confirmed that our ocean started production yesterday (week 36). This is what we were predicted when we ordered on the 1st July, so it appears that they are now running on time for new orders?

@Calif-Onion-cation that's a crazy delay - you must be climbing the walls!

@zippster they told me to contact them again in a couple of weeks and it should be finished...

@devon_matt thanks for the info.. so looking like a 2 week build.. then a long boat trip over the water then..

keep us posted on delivery times .. would be really nice to know as its out first factory order and really dont know what to expect.

It really looks like they are prioritizing UK market. In Switzerland, I was told 7 months for Ocean when asked in July.
4 weeks waiting and no news, even no unconfirmed week.

@ewkaj that's such a long time to wait! I was quoted 10 weeks when I placed my order, I think its slightly longer now as there is quite a bit of demand... guess they must be prioritising the UK, I cant think of any other explanation :Iamsorry

I placed my order with the dealer on 31st July, order was accepted by the factory on 13th August, and just learnt today that it's assigned to build week 43 (week beginning 26th October).

It’s good for you guys and definitely makes sense from marketing perspective. But waiting in general is annoying ;) I hope I’ll come to moment when I’ll stop counting weeks ;) And maybe it’s for the better as I wouldn’t use it that much in winter as in spring / summar / autumn. But as I don’t have any car, having one would be useful during Corona-times :/

managed to get a build slot from a dealer here, seems most cannot take orders until January now. Not sure if it is due to the amount of orders. We are looking at a 6 month wait from deposit to delivery.

I’ve got to the stage where I’m no longer excited, just sick of the bloody wait. Don’t expect I’ll be enjoying many sunsets and sunrises this side of spring!

I was quoted Feb or March delivery if I order one now (also in CH), There's limited nearly new stock around but I managed to find one which fits the bill and can get it at the end of September once the dealer have had it on their fleet for 5 months.

Fingers crossed...my Week 29 Cali is on the City of Rotterdam, heading for the Port of Tyne having left Emden after a weeks wait. Should be on home turf by Friday. Next challenge is getting hold of it !

good news for you ! I bet your excited!

however should I be worried if your week 29 is only arriving to you next week??

im expecting my week 41 beginning of November? or am I being unrealistic?

Very thank you! All I can tell you and Scoots, is that mine was held up by the summer factory break and also waiting parts to complete. (I assume the MY 20 completion issues, as Wk 29 was last of that Model Year). I feel that that all set mine back about 2 and a bit weeks, so if I get mine say (fingers and toes crossed) for week 38 that would suggest 7 or 8 weeks from build week. I'd also suggest mine was caught up a little with post Covid lockdown start up and clearing the back log. As we all know following this thread, nothing seems as predicatable as it perhaps should be. I'd also suggest that the landing port (e.g. Sheerness) appears a bigger challenge to get the vans out of compared to perhaps Grimsby or Tyne. Nearer the delivery time, discussing registration with dealer is also worth it. FYI my trade-in has private plates which I am retaining, so I can retain these now (£80) and therefore they are ready for placing onto the Van straightaway and saves the wait for new registration which has caused some new owners issues earlier in this thread. Hope that all helps in some form !

Just got my provisional build week for the Ocean I ordered mid August, week 43. Fingers crossed it sticks to avoid any Brexit shenanigans.

I have contacted couple of dealers, most didn't have anything on stock. From AMAG I have got very vague answer "we have only beach" and they didn't even bother to answer a follow-up question. Are you buying Ocean?

There seem to be lots of high spec Beach about but very few Ocean. It appears most of AMAG’s ‘company car’ Ocean models (at least the high spec ones) end up at a camper specialist in Solothurn.

I’m getting an Ocean Liberty Edition, it appears any Ocean AMAG get in sells in a couple of days if priced right, I had an alert set up on Autoscout and called the morning this one went up for sale.

That’s interesting. That was nothing on Autoscout when I looked in July. Literally one very overpriced couple years old Ocean.
Now I see many that are 60% of the brand new price with 100km on them...

Sorry, I didn’t mean 60%, was typing to fast on a mobile.
They actually seem higher than brand new ordered to made although they did spent couple of months at the dealership.

We are seeing that in the UK here at the moment, a few dealers selling nearly new demonstrators at new prices, I guess you could haggle and get a more realistic price.

Mine ends up single digit % cheaper than ordering new, it'll be 5 months old with 6k KM. The advantage of this one is that you jump the waiting list, but also because of the way the leasing is calculated the 'Restwert' is higher on a used model than a new one so the monthly cost is far lower. I got a deal on winter wheels and some accessories thrown in, but I don't think that's any different to what would happen with a new one. With non-AMAG dealerships the leasing is prohibitive as through other firms it's at a higher interest rate with a lower Restwert so very quickly ends up in four figure numbers.

Autoscout show a 'new price' but this doesn't include the 'Liberty Sondermodel' discount of about CHF 10k so something showing a new price of 80k on there would actually be 70k from the factory if you ordered it. There is one we looked at where I went home and configured it to find the used one was priced up at 1k above the actual list price for that model and spec.

I've also been told that AMAG have stopped staff taking Californias on their normal 5 month replacement cycle and moved them to 18 months, which will limit the supply of nearly new stock going forward.
