Parking heater problem (probably) resolved

On the 26 November I posted this in a reply to another thread:

Even after nearly three years of regular parking heater use, I still find its operation baffling at times. I managed to drive 100 miles on Sunday with the parking heater on and unable to turn it off - I'm still confused as to why. Perhaps the remote fob, locked away in the glove compartment, had the heat button constantly depressed: if this was the case the display should have been showing that the parking heater was on - but it wasn't. It was displaying the current time.

I think I now understand my 100 baffling miles, and it is something I should have checked.

Our Beach has the upgraded Climatronic air conditioning, with a second evaporator and controls in the passenger area. I now think that my parking heater problem was not a parking heater problem at all, but little fingers fiddling with the rear heating controls.
