Show us your "Two Tone" California

Could I ask what the name of this colour is (the lower half) please - it looks fantastic (we have a candy white ocean on order and are planning the wrap now!) Thanks

Likewise. We also have a candy white on order and that two tone blue is the best colour combo I’ve ever seen.

Ours is a factory two tone extra, Candy white/Starlight Blue. We absolutely love it.

Not much activity at the Dunstable Gliding club today!! Did you know that the first Hot Air Balloon flight in the UK took place from the gliding club? It was in 1966 l think.

1966? Didn't that happen a few years before in the late seventeen hundreds?

Yes Borris, you are correct. It was Lunardi in 1785. I ommitted the word 'modern' Modern hot air balloons came about with the advent of bottled gas. No l don't know if it was butane gas, or propane gas.

You’re right no gliding today SusiBus, cold and VERY windy. Didn’t know about the first balloon flight. We usually get quite a few around Wendover in the summer.

I disagree - first modern uk flight was Bristol Belle launched from Weston-On-The-Green in Oxfordshire in 1967

If I’m wrong there were quite a lot of people in the wrong place for the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Having Googled this (yes i’m sad) I think you’re right andyinluton but Susibus is also correct because prior to the flight at Weston on the Green, there was a tethered trial flight at Dunstable.(which went a bit wrong when it broke away from it’s moorings).

My father was involved in the Weston-on the- Green flight which is why I knew about it, I hadn't heard about the Dunstable one.

Anyway another pointless fact, my first flight in a glider was at Dunstable aged about 14 I used to fly there quite a bit via an after school club, I don't think they are quite as adventurous these days.

Small world, my first and only trip in a glider was at the London Gliding Club at Dunstable in the late 1960’s. I was an engineering apprentice and we had various excursions, mostly to factories to see production, but Dunstable was a fun trip.
