It's all very informal. One of us will be on the gate as you arrive. There are lots of things to do locally. Are you walkers or cyclists as there are good routes for both nearby.
All sounds good, thanks. Hoping to visit the Wildfowl Trust at some stage. Looking forward to the weekend

We have booked Fri 24-Sun 26th of September at Tudor Park and the price will be £40 for the 2 nights.
(£20 per unit per night. Minimum stay 2 nights.) Extra nights they will also kindly do at the discounted rate. So if you wish to get there before Friday or stay after Sunday you will be able to do this at the same rate.
All bookings must mention the California Club to get the discount which will then be applied. Will be easier to do over the phone 01453 890483 as the on-line booking system is not so flexible.
The location will be at the Tudor Caravan Park, Shepherds Patch, Slimbridge, GL2 7BP in the same place as last year.

It is next to the Sharpness Canal which gives the possibility of long flat cycle rides or walks to nearby villages. Frampton on Severn if you go Northwards or Purton & Sharpness to the South. Their website is http://www.tudorcaravanpark.com/

There is no direct access from the field to the canal so the site is safe for children.
It is also only ½ a mile from the Slimbridge wetland wildlife reserve.

The site is level and there are no hook-up points on this field. There are some on the adjacent fields on the site, but you will then not be with the main group. Campers staying in the rally field are able to stay until after lunch on the Sunday.
The campsite has given us 25 places on the Rally field, we have the canal side of the field only this year and there will be other campers on the other side of the field.
Should visitors wish to stay on an EHU pitch they are not covered by the Rally discount and will pay full price as per prices published on the website which is about £52 for the 2 nights, please be aware these pitches are NOT on the rally field but are within a short distance of it.

To get there:-

From the North, come down the M5 and take exit 13 for Stroud then turn right to A38 South and follow signs to WWT Slimbridge.

From the South, take exit 14 from M5 & then A38 North and follow signs to WWT Slimbridge.

From the East, take exit 18 from the M4 and follow the A46 to Stroud. Then follow signs towards the M5 and take the A38 southwards.

Please try to avoid arriving at school finishing time, 14.45-15.45, there is a primary school very close by & the roads are very narrow around here with few passing spaces.
At the roundabout on the A38 brown tourist signs direct you to the WWT & Tudor Caravan Park which is just before the canal bridge. Pub on the left, drive through the pub car park and reception is on your right.

Could you please add a note to this thread when you book so we can keep a track of numbers please.

See you there I hope
Simon

Have finally managed to book today so all being well we will see you next month

Discounts Available from The Black Shed, Slimbridge
The Black Shed, https://www.theblackshedslimbridge.com/ is a food and activity centre on the canal opposite the campsite entrance. The team from the campsite have spoken with them on our behalf and they have kindly offered to give any of the rally goers a 10% discount on their bike hire. They are now hiring out canoes as well and have agreed to run the 10% discount again.
They are also doing boat trips from the Black Shed and offering a 10% discount for rally visitors.
If any of you want to book an activity give them a ring on 01453 890609 and ask to speak to Sally or Sonya.

I'll post more details when I get them

Just booked for 2 nights, will be our first club meet so looking forward to putting faces to names .
Also hope to have delivery of new Cinch Hub by then (supposed to be dispatched on 21st ) so will probably not have a chance to practice putting it up so will be a trial run and hopefully lots of expertise on site to help pack it away !

Good Morning All
I've spoken with the Black Shed staff and on Friday night they have Fish & Chips on offer as well as their regular basket meals. They close at 8.30 so don't leave it too late to go over and order the food.
On Saturday night it might be a little later closing and the menu is only the regular basket meals, but again as it is late in the season it is best to ask at the Black Shed when you get to Tudor Park.

The boat trips are along the canal and are 1, 2 or 3 hours. The longer trips go as far as Sharpness and the longer of the two trips has time to explore Sharpness Docks before returning to Slimbridge.

Simon

If you can just say to the staff in the Black Shed that you are with the California Club Rally and have your booking number with you that should be fine to get the discount.

Looking forward to meeting you and having a look at the GC.
We only have the canal side of the field this year . Any idea of when you will be arriving?

I am hoping that we will be there about noon as we are staying Thursday night with our son and family in Stoke Gifford.

Enjoy this weekend all! Was hoping I might be able to sneak in at the last minute but have sold my Cali (quicker than expected) which was collected today. New GC on order so will be back!
Have a pie for me!

Didnt do the pie this time, but did do the new boat trip to Sharpness and the GC tour!

Hope everyone got home safe n sound, great to meet old and new faces, had a wonderful time thank you to all

Many thanks to Simon for organising a fantastic meet up, helped a lot by the glorious weather.
Big bonus for me was, thanks to much help from Rick, we managed to fix a long standing niggling fault that had defeated the best VW technicians for over two years.
Other highlights, meeting everyone, GC tour, evening serenade, strolls along the canal and everyone being so kind to Jess our border collie.

Thank you all for coming, I hope you all had a good time & a good journey home. I made it 20 Californias in all with 3 others elsewhere on the main campsite who had no idea we were there. Thanks to Tom Downie for showing people over his Grand California and the couple with a Coast who popped in for an hour or so with their new vehicle.
A few photos of what we did. A boat trip yesterday to Purton where a lot of concrete barges were beached to protect the wall of the canal from being eroded by the River Severn.

Thank you again for organising a great weekend Simon. Really good to be doing these again after the long break. Members extremely welcoming and good company as usual and we weren't at all ostracised for the GC in fact we really enjoyed the interest shown. Sue and I felt quite sad when it was over. Hope to meet up with you all again soon.
Tom & Sue
P.S. it' really windy here in the South Downs and the campsite is not nearly a good.
