A VWVC just advised me that the T6.1 California Coast is no longer available to order (from 1st Dec 2021). So my question related to variances between Ocean and Coast have become academic! Now where did I put that extra £9,000 ??

Coast withdrawn from Drivethedeal but still 'available' on Autoebid.

On the official Volkswagen site, the coast is already gone in Belgium, France, Spain and Germany and that for a few days already. Either some update is coming or Volkswagen is prioritizing; you can already see the electric passenger cars driving around… Maybe they're keeping the bestseller coast away for a while? The california practically sells itself so sales they will still have. We'll see what's going on soon enough.

For some reason VWUK seem to think that choice of models freely available in continental Europe should be controlled by them when it comes to U.K. market !
It wasn’t that long ago that the Beach was withdrawn, from U.K., for T6.1 only for it later to be reintroduced to the U.K.

Coast owners may have bagged a future Classic !

edit: Rationalising a range make sense with parts availability !

More profit on a ocean and a beach. They need the manual roofs for them beaches, and kitchens for oceans I guess.

your guess is as good as any guess and also sounds plausible. I suspect something along those lines as well: the coast is a real bestseller in some countries and the backlog is now so huge and they have enough sales to the ocean (maybe even more profit on an ocean). Who's to say.
Mine ‘disappeared’ from MyVolkswagen, so no ordered car and of course no estimated building time. Unfortunately, the dealer knows nothing more and is also waiting. He will keep me posted. It’s getting weird.

We had been informed the same by our local dealer as we had shown interest in a Coast. The following day we therefore placed an order for a coast (the last day of November). I was somewhat sceptical that this was all true, trying to get the sale etc, however it now appears to all be correct.

Looks like the Coast is still on the VW U.K. website?

if i had to buy a cali again, the beach is a great camper with the single hob for a brew. its odd coast is not available any more. it was only out for about a year as far as i know.

Maybe the coast isn’t selling well…?
I wonder what the sales figures are between the 3?

Me too.
Maybe not selling well? Could be. I don't know how it is in the UK, but the coast is a bestseller with us. This comes from one of the largest (maybe even the largest) dealers of Californias in Belgium. But he doesn't know what exactly is wrong, when he was asked last week.
The caramel coloured kitchen didn't do it any favours.
Oh each his idea about the colour kitchen but I like it more bright than dark.
Greetings

At least you've got a choice. In the UK it's just caramel.

The bods signing off all the colour options available in the UK must be colour blind.

Of all the 2 tone colour options available they picked the 3 most rank colour combinations.

It's one of the reasons why we've not replaced ours.

ah so, are you talking about the outside colours and not about the wood colour of the insides of the coast?
However, there is not much choice now in some countries because the coast is -for the time being?- out of the program.

IMHO, it's definitely about profit in the UK .. the Ocean is about £9200 more than the Coast. Additional Ocean spec costs VW a fraction of that

I doubt it. Given that the Coast disappeared from the German market several months ago it's fair to speculate that it's not about the UK.
We already know that the T6.1 is going to be produced by Ford in a plant in Turkey starting in 2023. My guess is that they are streamlining in order to facilitate moving the Camper conversion away from Germany as well.

And again a very interesting look at the disappearance of the coast. Of course it has nothing to do with the UK but with what? Speculation about that is entertaining but also fascinating, I think.
Anyway, they must do something about it too: their production planning of the California is not very good: currently only one - not so big - department that makes all versions of the T6.1 California; if there is a hitch, such as a pandemic or a serious shortage of cheap micro chips, we notice the following: production capacity is seriously too low. I think it has more something to do with that: they sell enough of them but the bestselling coast ruins their production capacity, this and the very expensive ocean that makes enough money.
The mention of the move to Turkey: already? The T6.1? Could be because the new ID BuZz will be built in Hannover?

About Hannover: summer 2022 VW BUS Festival at Hannover; anyone? ideas?

Some may have opted for the light oak interior to brighten things up inside. I think it is an option on Oceans in other non UK markets too. I would agree that it works better with some external colours better than others and in my completely biased opinion works really well when you match it with the coordinated flooring :thumb

That's fine if you like it. Some markets have a choice i.e. "graphite grey" or "light oak". The UK doesn't.

If you don't like it, you won't buy one.

I'm not sure VW get this.

Maybe they don't care as they've got an order book as fat as a doctor's wallet.

It is VW UK that has to understand: normally the importer decides which models, versions and options are offered. The coast with you was much more richly equipped and therefore had fewer options than elsewhere. Apparently it was decided to offer the light colour of the cabinets at the coast and no other.
The dark slate colour was also not widely available on the coast and sometimes part of a special edition.
But I notice that you have a deeper problem with the light wood colour of the cabinets from the coast, yet it is the colour of blond beer :cheers (only joking of course)

Thank goodness our Coast is waiting to be shipped to the UK now. We have got ourselves a future classic . So sad for those who aren’t able to order one now……

it's a shame for those who want a full Cali kitchen and wardrobe set up but can't/don't want to pay the extra 10K for the bells and whistles. The Coast fits really well in the Cali range and the demand appears to be there. I suppose if chips are the issue then it would make sense to drop the Coast and use them in the Ocean where you would think the highest margin is. My concern as a Coast owner is parts availability in the future but I guess between the Beach & Ocean all parts should be covered.
