T6 VW California Delays

Relieved to receive a call from VWCS confirming that our 150 DSG Beach ordered on 9 March went into production today. Relief because our first confirmed date came and went several months ago!
Wow! 33 weeks! That's no joke. So pleased for you after such a long wait. It will have been worth it.

Thanks. The biggest problem was selling our T5 in May on the basis of the first confirmed date!

If your interested, of the last seven deliveries I have spotted here average out at 28 weeks with the longest being 37 with the shortest being 22 weeks.

Going into production after 33 weeks, I'll be absolutely delighted to take delivery in 37 weeks! ;-)

Thanks, that's very useful info and exactly what I had intended on doing but never had a spare moment to do!

Its all the time I have in waiting for VW;)

Well, spoke to my dealer (Clive + VW Van Centre (Birmingham) today. A summary of relevant points are below.
  1. He confirmed that an extra allocation had been given to the UK but was coy about disclosing how many this was.
  2. Parts availability can be an issue which can put build dates back. He cited type of wheels and colours as a potential example but he also said it could be almost anything. In a previous conversation he told me DSG's were an issue matching up to the new Euro 6 engines but had been resolved. Interesting. I wonder if the much published supplier disputes in the summer are still simmering.
  3. There were no problems, as far as he was concerned, about allocation - unless, now here's an interesting one, your spec contains a part/option that is no longer offered on the 2017 Cali (Oct builds onwards). Should this be the case it is possible that it could get in the "Can't build that spec" / "well we accepted the order" circle and not get an allocated build date in the same way as another.
  4. It seems mine was in this loop - over the Two remote keys/one rigid key option. VW are no longer offering the rigid key option for 2017. This is now resolved.
  5. He accepted my order prior to running out of his allocation (24/8) but will be built to the 2017 specs. (Hence the issue with the key)
  6. "Spring" build/delivery is still expected. :)eek: that could mean April meaning 31 weeks for order to build!! Not the longest I have seen but certainly not the shortest! Just so long as its before March 31 I say!!)
  7. Currently he has 8/9 Cali's on order at VW
Hi Jabberwocky. I think you placed your order around the same time as me, end of September. I called my dealer today in response to this stufff about delays and dealers using their allocation. He didnt say anything to confirm or contradict comments on here. He said my van is in a phase of order accepted. When did you place your order and have you been given a build date or have you been advised what thase your order is at?

Week 47, starts 21st November (maybe you just made a typo above?) I've a provisional date of week 48.

Your "provisional" date should go "confirmed" about 4 weeks beforehand, so that's next week for you!

You can phone VW Customer Services directly, then press option 4 - Quote your order number, for an update.

Rang VW Customer Services this morning andspoke to helpful chap called Sam. Provisional build week revised to Week 49 but this will not be confirmed until 7th November 2016. I was told that for my vehicle the current delivery time to dealer (Vindis in Northampton) is 17 weeks from the date build commences. Seems I'm back to square one with a probable (possible) delivery in early March. Don't know whether to laugh or cry so I'll just smile and play with the Khyam Motordome Classic awning I bought at the Camping and Caravan show.

Jaysus!! 17 weeks! I was of the understanding it would be 4-6 weeks from factory, to forecourt (max.)

Does that relate to a vehicle which is to be a demonstrator first? That would be the usual 4 weeks from build plus 13 weeks as a demonstrator. Otherwise I would query things with your dealer.

That was my thought. Is the dealership planning to use the van as a demonstrator model?

No suggestion that the 17 weeks included a period as demonstrator, that is not what I am buying anyway. It did seem to be relevant that my Cali is the Ocean 204 DSG without 4 motion because I believe Sam was referring to a spreadsheet for delivery times. Very unimpressed with accuracy of information received so far from the dealer but do understand the difficulties of maintaining a producton schedule and to be honest I was initially quoted a delivery date of Mar/Apr.

You should push VW for an explanation of the 17 weeks.

Reports from people here suggest that 3-6 weeks from start of build to delivery to dealer is about right.

VWCS told me this week that they quote maximum 12 weeks from start of build to delivery but it is usually less than this. Factory is shutdown for 2 weeks for Xmas so this needs to be added.

Hi Hantshog, placed my order on 24/8 and was placed with VW on same day. My order is at "Code 00" which is order accepted. The next news I hope to get is "Code 10", Provisional Build Date and the "Code 20", Confirmed Build Date. Good grief I am so glad they do not use colours! Can you imagine being at a stage "Code Red":eek: Very dramatic.
You will have guessed by now that I am following this whole process as part of the journey ending in the delivery of my Cali which will be the start of a whole new journey. I will continue to make it part of the experience.

Surely that must be days?

Is there a Christmas Shutdown at Factory and ? Ports/Transfer ?

Can anyone confirm that rigid key is not an option anymore? Because I can still find this option in english, german and slowenian configurator. And do you thing rigid key is an opportunity for thieves? I mean, can they brake in any easier if there is also mechanical lock. This key opens the door of the car, right? Does it also start the car? Thanks

My van has just finished build - woohoo! Ordered 204 DSG 4Motion 3rd March so order to finished build took 34 weeks (8 months). VWCV suggest the dealer will have the vehicle w/c 21st November (another four weeks), so best case scenario for me is 9 months from start-to-finish. I can not wait!

My understanding from my dealer in UK is that the rigid key (which was an option with two Remote Keys), is no longer available as a combined option. Whether it is available separately I do not know. As for functionality, I assume it opens the doors and will start the car, but obviously has no remote functions.
