Has anyone used one of these on their camper? It’s Thatcham S7 accredited which Comfort Insurance have said I need for their insurance? (Thatcham S5 or S7 Tracker required).

I’m not bothered about features, as I am only interested in trying to insure the vehicle when it arrives.

It seems like a good price and the annual subscription is not too high compared to others.

I had a quote from Comfort and they told me that they wouldn't allow these battery devices and wanted a more permanent option.

Very good price compared to others on the market, and annual subscription looks very reasonable too. Does cost include installation?

My only doubt about this tracker is the S7 classification. I wonder whether insurers might sooner or later insist on S5 given the greater range of features, eg keyfob detection on startup?

Well that might scupper my plans then! Comfort Insurance was the best quote

These Tracker Nanos are self install, switch it on register it with the Tracker website, fit the black tape supplies and the self adhesive Velcro pad. Then install it in an obscure location in your vehicle.

I know because I've just done it with one supplied by Adrian Flux as part of my insurance premium and their insistence.

See here for details of insuring my new TGE Camper conversion/

I actually called up rather than faffing with a quote online and I have to say the lady I spoke to was superb and seemed to know her stuff. She gave me loads of useful pointers like if your car isn't garaged every night state 'keep on drive' as the premium doesn't change.
Regarding the tracker she said that rather than get the dealer to fit a tracker at an exorbitant cost (which is what the quoted!) as long as I have an installation booked in with an approved specialist they will allow me to collect the car without a tracker.
Although they only insisted on a level 7 tracker, my view is pay for a level 5, as it's only a few hundred quid more and future proofs my new Cali.

Thanks for that, I might call them instead and confirm

Exactly my experience with CaravanGuard.
Had an S5 tracker fitted by Hyde Park of Stockport on my drive a fortnight after insuring and picking up the Cali. £449 including one year sucscroption.

Strange that Comfort insist on a tracker on your van @Pinocchio_888 - they don’t on mine. They do insist on a Thatcham approved immobiliser which is no problem as it is factory fitted as standard. Double check with them before you splash the cash.

It’s purely based on value, anything over £75k and they insist on a tracker.

Yes that's right, and they base the £75k on list price not what you actually pay for the vehicle with discounts.

Interestingly they told me they offer a 'new for old' policy in the event of total write off or theft, I wondered how that would work 12 months hence when they're no longer available....

As Mr T said, it was based on value before the discounts and as it was over £75k I have to have one fitted.

They were good at pointing out that the van comes with a factory fitted Thatcham 1 immobiliser. I now need to go back to the other insurers to see if that reduces the premiums as I hadn’t realised it had one as standard.

I put a Metatrak on mine. It's really very good. Husband likes it as he can track me.

Comfort are great, lovely to deal with.

From talking to them, I understand that it only gives positional updates once every 24 hrs to save on battery life. It seems suitable for caravans in storage where connecting a Tracker giving life positional information would cause leisure battery drain as the caravan isn’t on a hookup. In order to get alerts, Tracker say you have to set up a zone where your Nano is and then configure a notification email for a zone breach scenario. It does have a SIM card but I think that is for server communication only. There are a few companies selling these kind of devices, such as iTrack. Their device will give positional data every 24 hrs but this changes to every 15 mins when moving my. There is also Aguri Magtrack, which does a similar set of functions but has a motion sensor alert if someone tries to remove it. I have a Metatrack on my vehicle which has been very reliable until recently when I discovered the immobiser wasn’t deadlocking. On speaking to Metatrak, they offered very good support and I had to disconnect the battery (negative terminal only for 2 mins) and reconnect. All came good again. Possibly a software update caused the problem

If I am correct you are referring to the Tracker Nano device. Yes it may only report in to the control system every 24hrs but they can request a location at any time. I know this because I had doubt that mine had been registered correctly so I rang them and they were able to tell me where the vehicle was at that moment.
I also have used the TK103 self install trackers on various vehicles which will text back location and vehicle speed if you ring them. Also other wired and 'geo fencing' facilities are available including multi user. You will find that type on eBay by searching for TK103 tracker. The snag with these is that they are only 2G versions I believe.

Metatrak is very good.
App works as it should and support was always spot on when needed.

When the vehicle costs as much as it does, a few extra pounds on the security is a no brainer IMO.
