I’m not as trusting as you WeshGas . I like to see things clearly written down with no chance of misinterpretation. I might have gone with £450 but £682 on a 20000ml van for under 10000 mls in year and £250 xs . No thanks . Oh and remember when something fails it has to be a ‘sudden failure ‘ . If that’s not a get out clause I don’t know what is .

I’ve done my research. I’m happy.
Underuse causes more problems than people realise. Regular use and regular servicing is king. Not necessarily the case with Habitation equipment.

There doesn’t have to be a mention of California extras as they are fitted by VW, Factory fitted, so included. I have this confirmed.
I was mainly concerned with the Habitation equipment.
Control Panel £750+, Parking Heater £2000 from VW, Fridge £1500, Hydraulic Roof £?. Bench Seat £?
After 60,000 miles and 100s of nights I think £450 for a year is quit acceptable.

Bizarre, prices seem all over the place, mine is also a 2015 SE but a 140 manual so no DSG, no 4motion and one less turbo but my quote is basically double at £1300.

PJM-64 could you let us know how you get on please ? My last car Landcruiser Amazon 250 k mls . Only thing I replaced was starter motor at 180 k . Had lots of landrovers / Rangerover / Discovery but that’s another story !

The car market thrives on options so how do you define "manufacturer original specification". I believe this is OEM. A simple one would be is that your engine is covered but if you third party remap and add an extra 30% more power than you're not covered as you've moved away from the original specification. Similarly if you went down the 21in wheel route and then had half shaft issues, etc. ​

Having read and considered the terms I don't believe certain items will be covered as they fall in a gap. For example, the control panel. The roof hydraulic are also questionable as it could be considered as a mechanism under the roof. I will raise these issues back with WD.

It just makes me think that you would have to be clear between you and the insurers of what is an alteration or modification at the time of purchase so they cannot use that clause to wriggle out of a claim. An example of changing the stereo and later a problem with the canbus occurs. They have the perfect get out.

I wouldn't have an issue with that. They insure a risk. However if you change the risk then your cover could be revoked. So if you changed the stereo and the engine blew up your cover would still be in place as there's no consequence.

Response from WD concerning the queries I raised.

Thank you for your email through regarding the warranty cover available, and the relevant questions to be clarified.

To confirm, the Insured Vehicle Warranty will cover the electric/motors for a convertible roof, but not the actually mechanism or framing for the roof as this would be classed under bodywork.

The warranty itself will just cover the mechanical/electrical aspects for the chassis of the vehicle, unfortunately not electrical items that may be within the vehicle itself, such as the items listed, night heater/integrated fridge etc.

You are also correct, the Multi Media Protection would cover just the Amplifiers, audio head units/main dashboard units (including all integral components such as the Sat Nav ECU/DVD drive and main display screen) and CD changers.
Any secondary display screens or control units not integral with the head/main unit dashboard would not be covered.

On my previous car an Audi Allroad I extended the warranty each year until I sold the car, Audi even covered the ERG valve at 90000 miles and the car was 7 years old. Things covered by the warranty were
Automatic Gearbox at £12000 retail price
CV joint
Sat Nav Aerial
ERG Valve
So I thought a VW Commercial warranty would offer the same type of cover and service but in my case it does not.
I am thinking of not renewing my warranty and keeping the money in the bank. A £1000+ policy with a £2500 claim limit does not sound like a very good deal.

A £2500 limit does not sound very much if it includes labour charges. I would think the money would go very fast for anything tricky that needs diagnosis. I only want the cover in case anything major goes.

In the end I've gone with Club Care through the Caravan and Camping Club. I'm under the belief that it includes anything fitted by OEM both vehicle and habitation. £285/yr, BUT needed to get a HabCheck and damp report so an extra £199 and therefore £484 in total. The local HabCheck company was booked up to late June, so a chap drove 4 hours from Mansfield to do it. I was quite impressed. The manufacturer's warranty is days away from expiry, so it gave an opportunity to check it all out before that event.

Otherwise, I would have gone for MotorEasy - vehicle/mechanical no habitation. Looked quite extensive cover for the vehicle, but I went for a balance between vehicle/mechanical.

We'll see and only (!!) another £500 spent on the expensive toy.

I decided to risk it . I could see so many get out clauses in the policy wording especially that they only cover “ sudden failure “ . Also after speaking to my main dealer’s Cheif Tech he said his experience was that insurance companies don’t like paying up . They had a van stuck with them at the time with a big dispute with the insurance co going on . Good luck .

I looked at a reputable third-party provider at £960 for 3yrs cover (2 years ago)but didn't bother in the end. May consider something now that it's approaching its 5th birthday but now confident the EGR issue has been resolved. Slightly elevated aluminium particles but not scarily so
