What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Great looking Judd [?] wheels, apart from their strong technical merits, they are, IMO, a perfect choice for an Indium Grey van. Also like the easy access they offer to the barrels etc for cleaning. Are yours a staggered setup?
BTW your van is a perfect image of our direction of travel. Ours is also Indium Grey with the factory chrome pack. Mods to date are the VW rear spoiler and angular side bars, a suspension upgrade by CRS at Cannock which included beefed up ARBs, and Heko deflectors. Internally, for comfort and convenience we have fitted the Brandrup MkVI Isotop, the extra kitchen drawers and the rear sliding drawer kit, all from Campervanbits. We have also had a 35% tint applied over the factory tinted hab windows which improved the privacy but still lets light in. Just the wheels and a front lip spoiler to go on the wish list....
Hi, the wheels are very similar to Judd but they are actually Inovit Frixion 5's . Cleaned them for the first time yesterday and they are pretty easy to get your hands between the spokes. Would have liked staggered but the clearance for the sliding door is an issue.Gone for 8.5j all round and the door just touches the tyre when opened.
Some people have fitted wider but the door card then needs to be modified.
Have fitted B14 comfort coilovers and the ride is really good. Just got to work out now how to stop the tyre pressure warning light from coming on as the recommended tyre pressures are now 38psi.

How are you finding 38PSI? My Wheel fitter put 49PSI in and said that was the recommendation, the ride was shocking. I then read Bogners recommendation of 38PSI on the T6 forum. I lowered mine to 42PSI (a compromise) to see how it felt but the steering felt quite vague so I upped to 45PSI which is still a little harsh.

After booking a few short breaks with no hook up available we’ve decide it’s time for a solar panel. Not as Stealthy as some on here but we’re on a budget and so have gone for practicality with a 200w panel with Bluetooth MPPT controller for only £255. Panel fits the width of the roof channels perfectly too so easy to pop on and off if needed.

Looks great. 2 questions if I may? Did the aluminium struts & fixings come with the panel, and how did you route the wires into the van? TIA

Hi Bryan, The panel has an aluminum frame as part of its construction which is the same width as the van of tracks. I had to purchase some M6 t-track bolts and nylon lock nuts to attach it from amazon - cost £8.

The wire goes from the panel, into the rear tailgate rubber gaiter, then down into the rear jack compartment where I put the controller. That then has a wire which runs to the leisure battery.

Peak output yesterday was 181W which would keep up with the fridge this summer.

Panel is 40mm tall so adds a little extra height and need to be careful under low barriers. There was no noticeable extra noise in the van on the motorway, its a van so not exactly quiet in the first place.

I'm finding the ride fine at this pressure but i might increase it to 44 to try and get the tyre warning light to go out and see what the ride is like then. Bit concerned at 38 psi about potholes!

You can just reset your tyre monitor at any PSI you like on the coast, as long as they are equal. I presume it's different on the Ocean?

We have an Ocean T6.1 with the active tyre pressure monitoring system. I don’t believe we have a reset function and can only assume that the software ‘knows’ the correct pressure based on inputs of 1. Tyre type and 2. Standard or fully loaded.

I have the direct tyre pressure monitoring so you set your tyre size in the MFD and it tells you what pressures to use. I have selected the size that gives the lowest pressure which is 42 rear and 44 front.
I adjusted to these pressures today and the warning light has gone out and the ride is really good! Happy days.

See - Tyre pressures California Chris latest video

Yes, seen that but he doesn’t cover the active system at all. I believe my assumptions are correct though.

Brilliant! Thanks for the update, I might give those pressures a try.

Today Ikea gave a warning not to use Talrika plates, mugs and bowles, because they may break, resulting in hot food causing burning wounds.

Marc.

HEROISK too.

Wearing a lanyard like this around your neck while driving is a safety issue, as during an accident (worst case scenario - being tossed and turned) it may strangle you.
the lanyard is not not long enough to wear while driving, nor is it designed for such.

The warning is a standard disclaimer purely for the benefit of the manufacturer, preventing future claim if someone did strangle themselves. Similar to: “choking Hazard contains small pieces“ that is applied to everything

That is a genuine VW design, the lanyard has a clip at the back of the neck that is designed to come apart when pulled.
IMO wearing your keys around your neck whilst out of the van should be fine with this lanyard If sensible precautions are observed
I have a similar “”California” one (blue and yellow) which makes locating the keys in your pocket and hanging the keys up from the C pillar whilst asleep in the van easy for quick access.

Mrs JunglieD let me have a sneak peak of a bday present I get to open properly in a few weeks. Protective film is still in place but hopefully you can see the clever stainless steel laser cutting as inspired by @Loz and created by a clever guy on the T6 forum. Mostly existing designs from his catalogue but I had ‘California’ text added beneath the VW logo sides. Quality is very impressive - collapses down beautifully for packing too

Finally got to use it in Wales this weekend after the last couple of sites didn’t allow fire pits due to embers. It did not disappoint! The keen eyed among you may see the reflective heat map underneath which protected the grass in tip top condition after 10+ hours pyromaniac fun over 2-nights CDD9B196-36DB-4A01-86CD-EC7468393BA3.jpeg

Some drawers from the club shop for under the sink area

Finally got the roof liner from Thais, post-Brexit import a real pain at the moment. Pen and sweets were a nice touch. Seems good quality, will try and fit it tomorrow.

Fitted. Easier than I thought. Looks good, away tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.

Because VW's SatNav is pants.
Thought VW’s satnav was driven via Tomtom

interested to know why it’s pants.

Slooow to start, confusing and unintuitive interface. Can't get voice control to work. Compared to my BMW's I-Drive system it is hopeless.
