Waved my Cali goodbye this mornig at 6am when i took my electric bike for a 18km ride to work when it was -4 celcius.
When i got back home arround 16.30h (again 18km in -2cel. this time )he was still sitting nice and cosy in the garage....
Normal day at the office
I too ride my electric bike the 9 miles to work when ever I can to keep the miles off the Cali. I try and do at least two trips a week (36 miles off) if possible. If it's very wet or icy I do still use my Cali. Love using the remote park heater to defrost the screen before I go to work.
I used to ride my road bike (with thin tyres and 110psi) but a big crash in the wet and broken bones (fixed back together now!) has meant I keep it now for sunny days and weekends and thus use the electric bike as a practical alternative to the Cali. I have panniers on it as well so can carry all I need to work. I find the spinning keeps me warm and it does 15mph so I get to work in 36mins! You have to pedal but not too much power required so get to work warm but not overcooked like when on a racing bike.
The Cali is great for so many types of trip. Whether it is a weekend away or just using it for a day out so we can make tea and keep our packed lunch cold in the fridge it's a great vehicle.
I have had more comments and questions from random strangers about the VW California that I had when I owned my mid-life-crisis-mid-engined-loud-impractical-2-seater-will-I-blow-the-engine-up-today-?-vehicle!!! People are genuinely interested in rhe Cali and how it all works etc.
Just can't wait for the spring and get back out at the weekend in it with the family again. But until then I'm enjoying using it most days as my normal mode of transport.
