What have you done with your California today?

As a one off, probably yes. No more driving to the supermarket for eggs, and much kitchen waste recycled to eggs. Chicken waste composted and used to grow veggies. A section of a lawn no longer requires mowing.
Does that mean your eggstracting the most out of your garden Tom. :bananadance2

Using the Cali to take the family to a drive through test centre at the O2 tomorrow after a +ve lateral flow test from one of our sons.

all the best for tomorrow!
Hopefully a false positive, if not I wish no symptoms and a speedy recovery.
you, Claire and especially your kids stay safe!

Thanks.

Lateral flow tests, if properly conducted, give few false positives- around 98% of positives are correct.

I’m sort of resigned to the likelihood that all four of us will test positive over the next few days. The opportunity for keeping social distance from a six year old is limited. Should we be wearing PPE to brush his teeth for example? Or just not bother.

We both had our second jabs months ago - Clare in March, me in May. Andrew Marr has written a good account of what it might be like to have a bad bout of Covid after two jabs. It’s not too frightening.

He’s six. Give him a big cuddle, poor boy.

It’s either cuddles or a red cross on his locked bedroom door. If cuddles, I should probably paint a red cross on our locked house door, but if I did people may interpret it as a sign of support for our England soccer team.

Nice van. Wheels and tyres of this setup?
These are 17x8.5 KMC XD Holeshots with 245/65 x 17 BFGoodrich AT2 (All Terrain mud and snow tyres)

The wheels are starting to corrode after only a year of use so I can’t recommend them. I’d probably go for Black Rhino or Wolfrace if I was doing it again.

The tyres are excellent though.

Thanks.

So sorry to hear your son has covid. Hope he makes a speedy recovery and can get back for the last few days of school to see his friends.

My best friend, who is double jabbed, unfortunately came down with it last week after her daughter caught it the week before. We fully expected her youngest to get it too but he’s been clear all the way through. She is recovering and her case was quite mild, so hopefully the jab helped with that side of things.

Take good care of yourselves and good luck x

@Amarillo

Get well soon!

Seem to be more cases recently with children

Our son had to isolate last week due to a case at his school. For past + 12 months they have strict seating plan for each lesson so the whole class does not isolate, just those sitting close to the child who has tested positive. He is now back at school.

Also a case at local swimming pool where he has swim training 5 evenings a week - a volunteer helper at the training had been contract traced via the NHS App as a staff member in the smaller fun pool had tested positive. All parents received a message but after checking with authorities were told no need to isolate as the '+' test was over 48hrs after the member of staff had been at the pool.

Few friends in Oxfordshire have also had 5 cases in school last week, so their kids were at home. Other friends in Bristol have also had kids at home for isolation last week.

On my wifes work, small hospital, more people with two dozes have got cv19 than before vaccinations started. Me and my wife had it last september, kids aged 10 and 12 nothing.
I hope for a speedy recover for you and your family.

Thanks.

OMG, looked at the UK CV19 numbers, what is going on? Cases are skyrocketing at the moment. Will Europe be next since we are two months later in vaccinations?

Getting back on topic, have dumped it at a dealers to hopefully get the roof sagging & gearbox sorted.

It was noted at checkin that there were 2 outstanding recalls, one a software update relating to the roof, and one for an inspection of the cam belt.

Now if the sagging roof can be fixed by software , my reasoning is that it must be one of the following:
1. Change the timing of the roof check that re-tensions the roof so it does it every half hour rather than the 2-3 hours that it does at the moment.
2. Put the roof up tighter in the first place.
3. make sure the release valve for the ram on that side is done up tighter.

As vaccinations climb restrictions are being eased, cases rise strongly, hospitalisations rise gently and deaths stay low.

Over 86% of all adults have had at least 1 jab, and all adults offered a jab; 64% fully vaccinated and by 16 August all adults should have been offered both jabs.

Went to the COVID-19 testing centre at the O2. Everything very efficient. All four of us swabbed ourselves from the comfort of Amarillo. Communicated with people outside by telephone.

Results soon…

Unload, reload and ditched some stuff from the van, ductaped the awening, checked on coffee and stocked up some cans.

Every time I open the door it makes me laugh. If people in Spain ask, I tell them VW hired me as a consultant, then gave me the prototype as thanks for its success. When people ask if it was hard to adapt to being an immigrant in Spain, my answer is zero effort, after all Spain is just the European branch of California, and (true story!) most French and Spanish vineyards were replanted from California stock (which, yes, was originally brought from Europe) after the European vines were wiped out by https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phylloxera.

Had to get rid of my Mexican accent from moving there for work when I was 23 though. It turns out Road Runner cartoons in Spain were dubbed in Mexican Spanish, so people absolutely lost it when this 6’ blond symphony musician from California began to talk. Some said they could only understand me if they closed their eyes and imagined that I was the salesman for Acme dynamite.

9 min. from where I’m parked up. I’ll check it out tomorrow.

It’s so exciting to find something new in a place I’ve lived for decades. I love this forum!B1BB2210-C4EC-4CC8-AA0F-9CE7B454C4BA.png
