What you listening to in your cali?

I find Led Zeppelin (Mothership) and Deep Purple (Made in Japan) are the perfect pick me up when your starting to reach the end of the day's drive. To chill on site, some Massive Attack and the soundtrack to Inception.
Albums both. Can't add a whole album. sorry.

It is a legal requirement to play the following tunes on Betty Bus road trips...

Grateful Dead's Truckin',
Metallica's cover of Seager's Turn the Page
RHCP's Road Trippin'

The Mrs still insists on starting every trip with Kludo White's Campervan Driver.
Grateful Dead's Truckin' - added. Good choice.
Metallica - very nearly but no.
RHCP - Road Trippin - Title suits but the song is milder than hot milk. Sorree.

The best in my opinion to play in a Cali Beach is Porcelain by Moby(music from the film 'The Beach') it sounds great when sitting on a white palm tree lined beach in the Maldives and sounds even better when driving my Beach on the open road If that's possible in Britain!!!! :cool
Thanks, Listening to Porcelain lead us to Natural Blues and that made the list thankee.

Only one song - Going Mobile by The Who. There's a verse for everyone.....

I'm goin' home
And when I wanna go home
I'm goin' mobile
Well, I'm gonna find a home
And we'll see how it feels
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'

I can pull up by the kerb
I can make it on the road
Goin' mobile
I can stop in any street
Invite in people that we meet
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'

Out in the woods
Or in the city
It's all the same to me
When I'm drivin' free, the world's my
Home
When I'm mobile

Hee, hoo!
beep beep!

Play the tape machine
Make the toast and tea
When I'm mobile
Well I can lay in bed
With only highway ahead
When I'm mobile
Keep me movin'

Keep me movin'
Over 50
Keep me groovin'
Just a hippie gypsy

Come on move now
Movin'
Keep me movin', yeah

Keep me movin', groovin', groovin',
Yeah
Movin', Yeah
Mobile, mobile, mobile, mobile, ...

I don't care about pollution
I'm an air-conditioned gypsy
That's my solution
Watch the police and the tax man miss
Me
I'm mobile
Oooooh, yeah, hee!

Mobile, mobile, mobile yeah

............and of course there is 'Magic Bus'

Well the lyric fits the bill. Much the better song is Magic Bus as suggested by someone else. Thanks though.

Kacey Musgraves, My House. Ok not quite campervan but close in sentiment.

Much as I like Hotel California my preferred track from that album is The Last Resort

Just downloaded the sound track to Guardians of the Galaxy 2, starts with the classic ELO Mr Blue Sky.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but in a quick scan of the last 5 pages I can't see it .... Roy Orbison - I drove all night ....

Reminds me of two years ago returning late from the Loire loaded up with wine............ I felt like a 1920's gangster Moll shipping contraband booze over the Canada /USA line.:shocked

Initial instinct was to say no to this but.. the first few seconds of listening again and I know it belongs. Jeff Lynne was some kind of genius in his day. Thanks.

Thank you Bootleg-Granny. I Listened again to this well known track. I was never a big Roy O fan so this would work for many but not for me. Sorry.

Ok...someone mentioned serious....so let's get serious ;)

I have to say, when it comes to music, it's something me and Mrs Lowman take very seriously indeed. We'd even have to suggest that having the right music with us for a Camping trip is possibly the 'Number 1' essential when packing...even over Diesel in the tank!

The fact is, it was music that led to our current position as Cali owners. It's proved the perfect vehicle to support our ongoing music obsession and related adventures, up and down the country. Whilst we retain a healthy respect for music that's gone before, we're particularly passionate about new music, and by that we mean the 'good stuff' (see earlier reply).

So in the interest of restoring some 21st century balance, we thought we'd share with you some of the music/albums that's been keeping us company this year. Who knows, maybe one of them may find their way into your hearts at some point. So here goes:

"Under The Sun" - Mark Pritchard
Beautiful, ambient, electronic soundscapes. We listened to this whilst watching Brian Eno project a multicoloured Kaleidoscope onto the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank, from the top bunk of our Cali! A summer highlight.

"Post Pop Depression" - Iggy Pop
A real return to form for James Newell Osterberg. Reminiscent of the glory days of 'The Idiot' and 'Lust For Life'. We caught Iggy at the Albert Hall earlier this year. We stayed over at the Abbeywood Caravan Club site. We've had many, many nights in London, but this was our first accompanied by an overnight stay in a VW. A fantastic evening.

"Atomic" - Mogwai
An incredibly moving album soundtracking Mark Cousins documentary 'Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise'. Essentially a documentary discussing Hopes and Fears following Hiroshima. It's more uplifting than it sounds. We were parked up on the Norfolk coastline listening to this, under the most astonishing star filled sky we've ever witnessed. Breathtaking. And a real sense of our own relative significance.

"Good Luck and Do Your Best" - Gold Panda
We've been huge fans of Gold Panda for the last few years. His lo-fi, techno has accompanied many of our journeys, so it's been no surprise to us that his latest album has been a pretty much permanent resident on our Cali-journey playlist since it's release.

"Crab Day" - Cate Le Bon
Think The Velvet's Nico with a post-punk vibe. We were recently at the Green Man festival where we made Cate Le Bon 'must see' act. We weren't disappointed. She was outstanding.

"A Weird Exits" - Thee Oh Sees
One of the most exciting live bands out there at the moment. A whirlwind of garage, punk and pop. Plus they have two drummers...what's not to like! We drove up to Leeds, only last week, to catch them, then stayed over at our friends, parked on his drive. The joys of Cali ownership!

"Barbara, Barbara, We Face a Shining Future" - Underworld
Underworld are one of our favourite bands, and this is right up there with some of the best things they've done. A joyous celebration of the human spirit from start to finish. We caught them this year at the BlueDot festival (again using our Cali as our hotel). They had 7,000 of us dancing in a field. From 4 year olds, to 80 year olds. It rained...hard...during their set, but everyone kept on dancing. So much so, the rain gave in, and it turned into a beautiful evening!

"Blackstar" - David Bowie
I saved this until last. A huge tear appeared in the universe on January 10th 2016. Just writing this makes me realise we're not over it as yet. Listening back to this, based on what we now know, it's hard not to consider this as anything other than one of the greatest Art statements of all time. We've listened to this periodically on our trips this year. Usually it's been accompanied by debate, trying to unlock what we see as hidden meanings. The Elvis references, the cult of celebrity etc. etc. Unsurprisingly, this has been our album of the year, and I imagine will remain on our playlist for some years to come.

I could go on, and on (you may think I already have done).
You may also be think a) what a music nerd and b) what a music snob. In which case, all I can say is...well done..correct on both counts :thumb

But if this post maybe helps one of the above find its way onto your Cali playlists for the remainder of the year, I'll feel I've done my job.

As Gene Wilder once said...."We are the Music Makers, and We are the Dreamers of Dreams"
Since you have spent so much time considering your recommendations, I felt I had to spend the time listening to it all. We consider ourselves fairly up to date for mid-fifties folks partly because we have a son in an emerging band (Blaenavon) and he has an an amazing musical knowledge and wide tastes. Your suggestions, in the right settings would be pretty epic. As I type, Underworld are hypnotising my ears but some might not make it to our general list because we are not the specialist listeners you are,
Thanks. I enjoyed exploring all your suggestions.

Jackson Browne....
A great story teller, pretty timeless for me.
A few plays of this track and you will explore more (jedi powers used here). :D

Dear Cali Gurus,

Whats your favourite song to listen to when setting off in your Cali that says adventure, freedom, excitment, happiness and fun?

Top 10 recurring songs suggested will make the ultimate California playlist.

Please state song, artist and year :thumb

Hmm, guessing Hotel California by the Eagles might be one of them?

So being the OP, i will go first and yes, the obviois one;
Hotel California (Single), Eagles, 1977

Henley said that the song was about "a journey from innocence to experience"

"Running on Empty" by same artist may be more apt for us! :D

We rented a Cali last September and to my delight it had the Dynaudio upgrade. I prepared a Tidal off-line playlist on my iPad a few days before and off we went. The sound was very good and the hi-res Tidal source was so enjoyable. (If you have never heard of Tidal, it's like Spotify but High resolution)

On our return we quickly realised that we need to create a 'Cali Playlist' of tracks that we both enjoy. Now, months later, we often remark when we hear a track we both like, "that's one for the Cali Playlist".

So, everyone, what would be your number one suggestion for our list? You are allowed to suggest one track only.
Id be interested to hear your playlist. Is it public on Spotify? Are you willing to share it or any others? Thanks!

Two of my favourites
“Dakota” by Red Hot chillis and
“your not 19 forever” by Courtinas (although in my head I’m forever 19 - just wish my knees thought as much)
