Snap - except 2 less cylinders - Morgan 4/4! With Porsche Boxster 981 & 3 motorbikes to keep it company (while I go out in the Cali - although I can tow one of the bikes to keep the Cali company ..)

You can imagine then the fun of the moggie out here in Portugal on traffic free roads, where the country roads seem to have been built as ' drivers roads' on say a 60 mile drive' often I see no more than about 10 other cars total.....

I used to have one with two cylinders and three wheels. Have you every been round the Morgan factory? Brilliant.

Yes, been to Morgan a few times, plus to see mine being built. It's quite a place, not as old world as it seems really as they get the job done in their own special way.

This is tough because my 'other' is a Defender which I love to bits. It goes anywhere. Stinks of dog. Is great for taking down tracks to fishing spots. Kids love it and reminds me of my dad's SWB Safari station wagon which was the fist thing I drove (in a field aged 10)...

...but then I'm loving the new Cal too. So many adventures already happening & planned. Love how it has been designed (and how the doors fit)

Wow, seeing your own car being built must be very exciting! My favourite is the traditional ash framed plus four although I wouldn't mind one of those new SS powered three wheelers. Does yours have the traditional ash frame or is it one of the newer ones with the aluninium body tub and the BMW V8. Either way very very nice.
I remember going there many years ago when Cuprinol wood frame treatment was an option extra!

Ash Frame. Mine is the follow up engine to the original Plus 8 engine that they had to stop using due to emissions. It's had a Mcdonald Racing Exhaust from new that gives a better sound as well as about 20 extra BHP, making about 240BHP, needs to be driven with respect or it will throw you off the road. By comparison I used to have a 414BHP RS4 that was a poodle to drive compared to the MOG.

How gorgeous although I hope that your roads in Portugal are better than our local UK ones. I know that the springing on these cars is on the hard side and to drive one here in the area of the UK where I live would result in a shattered spine.
The RS4 you mentioned would be the Porsche engined rocket ship version, yes? I bet than was fun.

4.2 litre V8, no idea if it was a Porsche based engine. Lovely sound and power, but like most modern cars it had too many electronics gizmos which in my view diluted the driving experience.

I wasn't aware that they had been having issues with the new three wheelers. They are great fun vehicles for use by people built like racing snakes with hair to blow behind them in the wind. Regretfully, I no longer qualify on either of those counts!

I wasn't aware that they had been having issues with the new three wheelers. They are great fun vehicles for use by people built like racing snakes with hair to blow behind them in the wind. Regretfully, I no longer qualify on either of those counts!

The first problem they had was steering bump (I think they call it); then the bevel boxes were going and last one I heard the chassis were starting to crack. There were also problems with the engines.

They did an update for the steering geometry but the owners had to pay for it! We have three friends with them and all have spent long periods back at the factory for one issue or another. Quite a number of owners have been trading them in for 4 wheelers. Check the threads on TalkMorgan.

A Caterham like the one above is a better bet!

What a shame. They look like great fun but not with all that hassle thrown it.

Actually, when I last went to the factory I was surprised at how little they actually make for the three wheeler. It appeared to me to be around 85 - 90%, perhaps more, is bought in and just assembled. So the problems must mainly lie with the outside suppliers.

If I were going to buy a Morgan now there really is only one model that I would be interested in. The traditionally built, ash framed plus four. However since Charles Morgan got booted out I have gone off the idea of ever getting one.
