2nd Year + 40,000 mile Service

I don't want to send the thread off topic, but it's a closed system isn't it? The air is blown over sealed pipes? If that's the case, who cares if the gas is full of bugs? Bugs in the general ventilation system would be there even if no air con is fitted? I get the lubrication of the seals.
Not the gas. The interior heat exchanger and de-humidifier get contaminated/wet and provide an ideal breeding ground so the air blown into the cabin can be contaminated so that all the air ducting etc:. gets contaminated also. Periodically the system should be cleaned. Normally an aerosol containing a disinfectant blown/sucked through the system.

I thought the DSG box had to have an oil change at 60k not 40?
Computer says 40,000, same for the Haldex. Maybe subsequent ones have a longer interval as the 1st change could be sooner as the filter might requiring change due to picking up manufacturing debris and I don't think the filter can be changed without changing the oil.:thumb

I am confused. If the items serviced are 'service items' required by VW to be serviced, in other words mandatory, then why would they not be covered by service agreements such as that sold at time of purchase of the vehicle?

How many miles will YOU cover during the term of the Service Agreement?

I purchased the prepaid VW service plan when I collected the T6 in June 2016. My understanding is it includes 2 minor and 2 major services and 1 mot as per the VW service schedule. Total cost was £214.80 including all engine & gearbox oils & fluids and brake fluid required as per the VW standard servicing schedule. It is valid for 8 years and/or 80,000 miles.

I belive the same plan is now £864 but the terms and conditions are still the same (Feb 2016).

Interesting. No mention of DSG filter or Haldex but they do mention ATF, Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the T6 only comes with Manual and DSG, which doesn't use ATF.
The whole package is good value if you do the mileage. If not then VW win.
Mind you at 4 years or 80,000 miles there will be a cambelt change which is not included.

Just to clarify - It's 8 years or 80,000 miles. VW do not win - even low mileage users will get the full benefit because standard service is required at max 2 year intervals so VW would then provide the services at 2, 4, 6 & 8th year even if the vehicle does virtually no mileage. The dealer you choose to carry out each service is then paid by VW.

The standard 40k DSG oil and filter service is covered under the generic "Change the gearbox oil if necessary".

As WG points out it is a good value package. Mine was offered at a price considerably less than the cost of the oil alone! The 2 year extended factory warranty that covers up to 5 years and 80,000 or 150,000 miles I think is also excellent value.

These service and warranty options were ordered with the vehicle and are listed on my VW purchase order confirmation together with the specific vehicle model and factory fitted options. They cover everything factory fitted as per the VW T&C's - this would also include Haldex and 4 Motion transmission if fitted.

Is the service package transferable if you sell?

Yes, Service package and Extended Waranty are effectively part of the vehicle spec.

The VW service packages are also available on used vehicles under 4 years old with less than 80k miles on the clock.

I have 91,000 kms on my cali 4 motion, 2013 model, reading all the threads regarding cambelts I went to my local Vw in Luxembourg and asked for belt change and water pump. Directed to the service agent,he checked his computor against my chassis number.
No sir, your vehicle does not have timing belt change until 210,000 kms or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Wouldn't like to chance that. Get it in writing then when the belt snaps and wrecks your engine they should pay.
Are you sure he's not looking at the V5 chain engine?

If your service guy is correct, it does not surprise me as there should be interim belt condition inspections. However, it does seem an extraordinarily long interval for a service dealer to admit to and if it snapped out of warranty I suspect the repair job would all be at your cost!

As vehicles (especially Cali's) have become more technologically sophisticated with thousands of possible build variations, I suspect VW service dealers have access to vehicle specific maintenace interval data that varies from the generic standard lists in brochures and even service handbooks.

I looked at cost of ownership over 5 years and the prepaid service and extended warranty immediately became a "no brainer" as they say even before you take account of peace of mind, an extra 2 years roadside assisstance and no doubt improved resale prospects.

Not sure if the same offer is still available but I bought 4 x service 1 x mot and 5 year 80,000 mile warranty packages for less than the actual cost of WG's first full service. Excellent value, even at current list prices.

Would seem more likely.......

2nd Service. 1st one at 20,000 was just an engine oil and filter change.

WG, whilst I bow to you vast knowledge and would be my first reliable point of reference for all things Cali, I clearly referred to your "first full service". I suspect your "1st one at 20,000 was just an engine oil and filter change" was an interim service?

My interest in these posts is to correct the previously posted misconceptions make potential purchasers (both new and used) aware of the enormous savings that VW prepaid plans represent as opposed to the "money pit" if you go it alone at the mercy of dealers menu price lists and massively inflated parts costs.

Can I assume that these items will be covered under the service contract that I have purchased with the vehicle?

Always best to first check the T&C's and then with your chosen service dealer but yes, if as per WG's example, I believe they would be included.

Mind you at 4 years or 80,000 miles there will be a cambelt change which is not included.

But it is included along with most other "wear and tear" items including brakes, tyres, batteries and electrical items etc. by purchasing one of the Service AND Maintenance packages. Again, excellent value for high mileage users.

I am pretty shocked by his statement,on returm home ,I checked my serviceplan booklet ,supplied with my vehicle, page 19 deals with, multivan, caravelle, transporter and california.
The very last entry on the page covers the timing belt,(zahnriemen und Zahnriemenspannrolle,(nur 4 zyl- common rail diesel motoren).
Alle 210,000 km.
Do you have the service plan booklet in Uk with your new vehicles?

I appreciate your post WG, and I will question this one more time as I am talking with the engineer on Monday. Could you advise the limits in your service manual, if supplied with your new car.
Reason I posted my comments, are because It would be a shame to spend all that money, if the time limits have been altered for newer engines, and I have always tried to err on the safety side.

Nothing in the Service Book, all computerised.
