Cali Beach Attack in Cheltenham

So sorry mate. Could happen to any of us. It's a sad bad world out there. Good luck with getting it sorted.

Awful.
There are some ville individuals out there; just mindless.
I hope you get something sorted with the insurance pretty quickly.

All the best for getting this sorted. Hope insurance do their bit. I would be in bits.

What security do we have on our Cali's? Is there a loud alarm?

I have a tracker fitted but that wouldnt stop this.... Alarm?

Awful, just awful.

I hope the insurance company sort you out quickly and properly. Surely they will have to write it off as the smoke will have covered everything and permeated everywhere. You will never entirely get rid of that smell.

I hope you get a nice new replacement as a result.

Sorry to hear this, hope you get sorted quickly. Absolute scumbags. :(

Thinking about this, unfortunately, How did they get in? and how was the Internal Movement alarm disabled? and the Deadlocks?

The reason I ask is that on a few occasions when cleaning my vehicle our cat has crept in and gone to sleep. Locked the California and then when Mad Max woke up and started moving inside - Alarm sounded, very loudly.

That's truly shocking. So sorry to hear this.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for a replacement.

In the mad pc world we live in these days there are more and more useless scum walking around this country. A lot of them know how to bypass alarms etc and think nothing about the damage they do. I remember years back catching one of these low lifes in my car. I kicked the ....... out of him. Next day 5 in the morning two cops at the door, and I got done for abh. They even give the scum bag 300pounds compensation. Now these useless bags of skin are taking over, just they use scooters and acid these days.

Yeah wondering if they've maybe used a key fob signal blocker, no idea if they work for VW but there are apparently devices that will stop you locking your car. Others than can reportedly capture the signal over a few lock attempts.

I always check my door is locked now since I heard about these devices. So sad and so upsetting.

Terrible , terrible , so sorry to hear your news . Best of luck for the future .

Lost my faith in the 'justice' of the legal system a long time ago. My parents brought me up to respect the law and to believe that policemen were your friends and if you do nothing wrong then they will be on your side. I could not tell my children the same.

Keyless or not its easy to get in to cars and they know how. Years back half a tennis ball placed onto a bmw door lock and pulled would unlock the doors, kicking the front bumper of a Renault would unlock the doors, sticking a screwdriver into a side light on rovers and fords would overcome alarm systems. You can buy lock picks on Amazon. Its just to easy. I know a chap that spend 2000 on a van alarm only to come out one day to find the alarm on his doorstep and the van not on the driveway. My last new bmw ended up in poland. What did the police do.answer nothing. And yes my insurance went up.

:Iamsorry

Such a waste...

Without wishing to join in the "flay them alive before boiling them in acid" cries for vengeance I do despair at the leniency of penalties handed out.

A forty mile high speed chase in a stolen car where anyone anytime could be wiped out and it's a few weeks in jail and a two year ban from driving. Motor vehicle theft is almost treated as a non-crime yet the sadness and pain to a victim that has worked their socks off to save for their pride and joy is awful and punishment should reflect that. Being knocked off your moped by thugs armed with acid is almost non-custodial.

Society seems to have an "it's only a car" mentality without any consideration whatsoever given to the pain, trauma and loss suffered by the victim or the threat posed to innocent people by a thoughtless, callous thug in a vehicle.

Totally gutted for you. I know how I would feel - absolutely distraught. I really hope that you get sorted out with your insurance speedily and that they get you back on the road quickly. Hopefully this hasn't put you off Cali life.

Thanks for the warning about hiding a key in the van.
ahh thanks fella - not put off cali life ...... put off cheltenham lowlife tho

When our T5 conversation was stolen from our drive, the insurance company didn't believe it was locked. They asked me again and again to go through the details leading up to the theft, as if expecting me to change my story. I had to send them both keys along with all the other documents. I'm
Still not sure how they got in because I am certain it was locked. Sadly the 2009 T5 base vehicle did not have an alarm, so I heard nothing when they made off with it

B*****ds. That is just hateful. Will it have to be written off? Surely a good dealer could put it back together, for a price? I would be devastated. Poor you.
Thanks Verity - im very much hoping it can be salvaged - on the face of it the damage is limited, but it looks like the effects of the smoke will be the issue - and getting rid of the smell -any ideas ?? - i have been on youtube - if they write it off i am considering taking the salvage and getting the work done myself - might be a silver lining yet ??.

Really sorry to read this and I hope you have a happy ending to all this, it will be interesting to hear how your insurer deals with this

As said, the Cali is one of the family, so sorry for your loss.... I hope you can move forward with a new van if its not repairable.
