LED Headlights?

The standard headlights on the Ocean, are much better than the standard on the Beach. I added the "exterior pack" to my Beach, which includes an upgrade to the standard Ocean spec headlights.

I find these adequate, but would add the LED headlights if I could afford to and ordering again, as I'm sure they are even better.

But for comparison from sdtandard Beach to standard Ocean, yes there is a noticeable improvement.

Hi,

I know the OP is about an Ocean but i just wanted to ask more about the beach as this has been mentioned in a few posts. So, it seems the beach has poorer headlights as standard than the ocean but by adding exterior pack they become equal (?).

Can I ask opinion about the exterior pack option..... am I correct this package is added halagen lights so brighter? It also states on the online VW build your own page it includes "black exterior mirror housing and door handles in body colour". Does this mean standard mirrors and door handles are not body coloured? if this is the case I think I need to add exterior pack option to my order. Thanks for any advice

How long before lights itself become an option, along with wheels :(

“Drivers option pack .... mirrors to enhance the rear view experience and headlights to enhance the forward view”

“Added Passenger comfort options pack .....tyres ... to help smooth out all those bumps on a long journey”

Its all about making money. start off with a basic unit and make lots of add on options, all of which add more expensive for the buyer and more money for VW. BMW do much the same thing. soon air for the tires will be an added extra, a long with opening doors. F

You can already upgrade your tyre air to nitrogen......;);)

What is annoying is that its either halogen or LED. Why not halogen, bi-xenon or LED? VW via Porsche offer those three options and with Audi its bi-xenon or LED no halogen at all so why not on a Cali costing more than some of the offerings from their sister brands.

Bi-Zenon appear to be disappearing rapidly as LED is taking over, a bit like Halogen did to Tungsten light years ago.

Old enough to remember 6volt cars being the norm. and we think halogens are dim!!

Young man! I am old enough to remember the man with a red light walking in front :shocked

The passion in this thread high lights why VW keep the price of the option so high.
The LED tail lights, is a further nudge from VW to get you thinking about completing the package.
Very annoying really. I think if they were more in line with other Manufacturers (landrover were £800 for my Bi Xenons before LED started to take over) I think there would hardly be an T6 or T5) out there without them.

£1500+ to upgrade to led lights on a t6 is a joke
I got better things to spend that sort of money on !!!!!!
It's way too much money for led's in the options list....
Just fitted led lights to my defender,
£100 off a local dealer
Only got them because there reasonably priced,,,and defender lights are seriously bad!!!!
There plug and play and work well..
It's only a matter of time until they come down in price for the t6
One thing I don't like is being the person in front of the driver with led's... there a nightmare blinding in the mirrors constantly thinking there flashing me just so annoying...they may be safe for the owner driver but for other drivers there a bit of a menace

I live in the Yorkshire Dales and opted for LED. They are very good and I like the fact they can switched to another mode for driving on the right easily too for when abroad.

£1500 sounds like a bargain compared with BMWs laser headlight option for £8000, (which only work on high beam I believe ).

When we ordered the cali I didn't want to spend such an amount of money on the LEDs since I had halogens in my old car and I thought they would do the job even if they weren't the best in the world... But my husband was determined to get them (either LEDs or no cali at all:talktothehand). As he was going to use the van to commute everyday, mostly at night, I gave in and now I must say I'm glad he was so stubborn. I was really impressed by them.
I was also worried about blinding other cars so a few days ago when we were both on the road I overtook him to see the effect... I got blinded by two other cars but surprisingly not the cali!:happy:thumb

Our choice was this: five puppies peeing and pooping all over the van, as well as chewing the upholstery, or an LED light upgrade.

We went for the LED light upgrade and sold Meg's five puppies for a profit of £1385 - exactly the same price as the pre-Brexit LED light upgrade.

We had to use a flag in autumn when the glow worm harvest ran dry :(
Think you just hit on the green solution to LED lights, now just need to calculate how many glow worms I need and how to fool them into constant reproduction.
Get back to you in 2050 or so.

Anybody considered the fact that Leds reduce the fuel consumption? Very slightly but still they do because of reduced alternator load.

I don't have LED's on my Cali Ocean, but wondering if anyone know's if it can be added as an after sale upgrade?

I hired an Ocean T6 before I bought mine and it had standard lights, they were only just adequate, but it’s doable with them . Those lights reminded me of car lights I had in 1980 .

The difference though with LED is in my view many times better and worth the money , although I don’t know why they are not fitted as standard

Currently that would be extremely expensive as not only headlights would be required + £600 each it also needs self levelling sensor on front anti-roll bar plus headlight wash system. After that the canbus system needs to be updated.

I've been following LED bulb development and there are replacement LED bulbs coming onto the market (fully developed ones which will have cheap clones following) for H4 & H7 as used on Beaches and Oceans. Technically LED headlights must have self levelling plus washers.
I don't think I'll be a test case guinea-pig.

My old Split Screen, 6volt..... At road junctions in the rain, had to choose, lights, indicators or wipers definitely couldn't handle all three!

Not quite true - levellers yes, but not the washers. I have a BMW 1 series with LED projector style headlights (adaptive ones) and that does not have washers.

I also have a BMW i3 with LED headlights and that doesn't have washers either.

With Xenon/HID it was mandatory in the UK and every car I've had with Xenon/HID had washers.

LED's always on the top of my options list - great for cornering, poor visibility, driving in lanes and they look so amazing as well!
