I see that you have gone LED but my findings on Ocean are that after having a BMW with active Bi-Zenon lights the Cali was poor especially on dip.
I put Phillips Racing 150% bulbs in and a definite improvement.
What I now find is that the headlights have a very acute cut off in dip, good lighting up close but no light in front of that., even cats eyes give no reflection. More of a problem when Continental driving.

I couldn't justify the LED price at the time but now would make a few more moths homeless and empty my wallet.

So if you really want to see anything with your headlights whilst driving in the dark, it´ll cost
    an extra 1500 quid.? ffs.

    Nice marketing by vw.
Why aren´t they all fitted with the same lights.

Whats next, seatbelts , airbag upgrade ? roof rust upgrade ?

Imagine selling it in 20yrs time,
It´s a good runner but you´ll need one of them led torches if you want to
drive it at night. And bye the way, if you have any problems don´t go
to vw. They didn´t have a clue when it was new so you´ve no chance
    now.

Having owned a T5 SE and a T6 Beach at the same time, I can tell you that I found the standard headlights on the SE to be fine whilst the standard lights on the beach are hopeless. I have recently changed the Beach bulbs to fancy pants Phillips racing ones. Whilst better they still aren't good but just slightly better.
When I buy our next Cali the LEDs will definately be a must have option.

well I must say that I like a good headlight. and was a little bit put off after reading all the posts about poor headlights. however on the drive back from Scotland at night in the rain, I found that the ocean lights are not too bad, yes they are a bit yellow, but I don't think that the sky high price of the LED,s are worth the money and I drive a lot at night. mine you in Europe I mainly drive on tipped bean anyway or I am always being flashed. The headlights on the Mercedes Marco polo are way better then the VW range of headlights and its a pity that VW just want so much to improve what is a basic van. F

LED headlights also have a washer system and auto levelling, can be slight delay on bumps which is why you get flashed by on coming drivers. Plus taxes added.

Still about £700 to £900 over priced.

Put led's on the rear as standard so why not on the front? Even the DRL's aren't LED when most cars now have led ones.
I thought that the 2018 model would have leds.

    Hi,

I know the OP is about an Ocean but i just wanted to ask more about the beach as this has been mentioned in a few posts. So, it seems the beach has poorer headlights as standard than the ocean but by adding exterior pack they become equal (?).

Can I ask opinion about the exterior pack option..... am I correct this package is added halagen lights so brighter? It also states on the online VW build your own page it includes "black exterior mirror housing and door handles in body colour". Does this mean standard mirrors and door handles are not body coloured? if this is the case I think I need to add exterior pack option to my order. Thanks for any advice

How long before lights itself become an option, along with wheels :(

“Drivers option pack .... mirrors to enhance the rear view experience and headlights to enhance the forward view”

“Added Passenger comfort options pack .....tyres ... to help smooth out all those bumps on a long journey”

Its all about making money. start off with a basic unit and make lots of add on options, all of which add more expensive for the buyer and more money for VW. BMW do much the same thing. soon air for the tires will be an added extra, a long with opening doors. F

What is annoying is that its either halogen or LED. Why not halogen, bi-xenon or LED? VW via Porsche offer those three options and with Audi its bi-xenon or LED no halogen at all so why not on a Cali costing more than some of the offerings from their sister brands.

Bi-Zenon appear to be disappearing rapidly as LED is taking over, a bit like Halogen did to Tungsten light years ago.

Old enough to remember 6volt cars being the norm. and we think halogens are dim!!

The passion in this thread high lights why VW keep the price of the option so high.
The LED tail lights, is a further nudge from VW to get you thinking about completing the package.
Very annoying really. I think if they were more in line with other Manufacturers (landrover were £800 for my Bi Xenons before LED started to take over) I think there would hardly be an T6 or T5) out there without them.

    Looking to buy
£1500+ to upgrade to led lights on a t6 is a joke
I got better things to spend that sort of money on !!!!!!
It's way too much money for led's in the options list....
Just fitted led lights to my defender,
    £100 off a local dealer
Only got them because there reasonably priced,,,and defender lights are seriously bad!!!!
There plug and play and work well..
It's only a matter of time until they come down in price for the t6
One thing I don't like is being the person in front of the driver with led's... there a nightmare blinding in the mirrors constantly thinking there flashing me just so annoying...they may be safe for the owner driver but for other drivers there a bit of a menace

I live in the Yorkshire Dales and opted for LED. They are very good and I like the fact they can switched to another mode for driving on the right easily too for when abroad.

£1500 sounds like a bargain compared with BMWs laser headlight option for £8000, (which only work on high beam I believe ).

When we ordered the cali I didn't want to spend such an amount of money on the LEDs since I had halogens in my old car and I thought they would do the job even if they weren't the best in the world... But my husband was determined to get them (either LEDs or no cali at all:talktothehand). As he was going to use the van to commute everyday, mostly at night, I gave in and now I must say I'm glad he was so stubborn. I was really impressed by them.
I was also worried about blinding other cars so a few days ago when we were both on the road I overtook him to see the effect... I got blinded by two other cars but surprisingly not the cali!:happy:thumb
