T6.1 Ocean 199 4Motion
Tried C&MC, Admiral, Safeguard and not having much luck. Admiral who we are insured with at the moment couldn't find the model, gave them a reg of a VW Ocean (used VW website), then told the price of the new T6.1 was too high for them to cover!. C&MC have quoted £764, Safeguard £939 (with discount)!!! told they couldn't 'mirror' our no claims protected as we made one claim 2x years ago (first and only time in 30 years - car caught fire on the drive late in the evening, electrical fault not ours, insurance classified the car as written off). Any suggestions on who else to try, anyone know if VW insurance is any good? Never owned a California before expecting higher premium but not this high, mentioned Autowatch Ghost immobiliser insurance companies not heard of it, premium slightly lower if a tracker fitted.

Any advise greatly received :)

Comfort.

I have our included on a multi car policy with NFU Mutual Direct - costs about 265/year for a 2016 204 4 motion, but they do have a limitation of 90 days abroad at a time which I would like to see if they will show some flexibility on

I to have been ringing around for quotes, presently with LV.
Have tried so called specialist insurers who's product knowledge is vague to say the least.
Prices approximately twice that of LV.
LV struggles with the fact I've fitted a Slidpod kitchen unit to a Beach.
Will cover kitchen as an accessory to a max value of £1000, unit cost £2500.
Others such as Safeguard will cover but at nearly £600 includes standard European breakdown and legal cover neither of which I need.

We got a good deal with Aviva in June also Direct Line were a very close second for us. VW were a lot more expensive. Hope you get sorted, insurance is a necessary evil

Adrian Flux are a broker who understands non-standard vehicles, even with business cover.

What is ment by habitation cover, what specifically is covered that's not cover by a standard policy?

The area you live in ie kitchen unit fridge, cooker, cupboards, wardrobe and bed.

Just gone with comfort was surprised at the good price they offered me and very nice on the phone

For us Comfort price was excellent for first year, but then they wanted slightly higher premium for the following year, (reason was that they cap the max NCB period, and we were at max) so we shopped around and JustKampers came out a lot cheaper with slightly better cover. Most of negotiation is done over the phone which was good because you can specify exactly what you want covered, and then they then act as a broker for you and come back with the best options/cover.

Using it. Cooking fire, water leak/damage. Accidental roof damage not caused by car accident, Parking Heater fire ( although never heard of one ).

Do you have any other risk factors, eg. age or parked on road? There is always lots of talk about low premiums on the forum but plenty of people have to pay much higher. I’ve never got below £800 due to postcode and parking on road.

Quotes varied a lot, comfort was double the price as LV. Plan to phone Comfort tomorrow to see what I get for the extra £250.
I do have a factory fitted parking heater but according to LV only non factory fitted accessories need to be listed on the policy, therefore failure of parking heater resulting in fire would be treated like any other fire caused by component failure.
Not sure on a cooking fire need to clarify, but slidepod is listed on accessory list.
The trouble I find when speaking to all these companies is that non of them give you much confidence about what they cover!

Yes they do, and they cover all things fitted at manufacture, but they do insist on calling the california a motor home.....
Well good luck! That’s what it says on the Aviva proposal but that’s not what their managers say.

Check with them for clarity

Absolute rubbish !!
LV cover the entire van .... how many more times has this to be repeated !!
They need to be consistent. They told me last year that they do not cover the habitation aspect of a California SE.
