On the bright side of Corona.
It’s finally getting people to wash their hands...

If I had a pound for the amount of people I spot, not washing their hands after using the toilet at work...:sad
Grim.

Confirmed cases in Italy soar by 18.5%. They now have nearly 4 times as many confirmed cases per million population than China.

Among European countries, Norway is also suffering with 90 confirmed cases per million population.

Worrying

One of the Reasons Italy is suffering so badly.
It is Number 2 in the world for Over 65 as a % of the Population, but as with many Mediterranean countries households tend to be multi generational either under one roof or very close by.

I did wonder.
Had a quick search, I think you’re right with what you say.
I have some in the van, for after I’ve filled the Evian bottle.
Would seem pointless, if it did go off that quickly after opening.
I should clarify that I was referring to cheap gels with a lower than 60% alcohol content. The alcohol level depends on the quality of the gel. The higher the alcohol content (like hospital gels) the better and longer the protection afforded.
Higher alcohol gels can last several years once opened.:thumb

That doesn't explain why the virus is raging so badly in Norway - the second worst affected area in Europe per capita, and third worst in the world.

Detail here with source of infection of each individual case detailed (if known).

My parents, aunt and uncle are currently on the Hurtigruten - they managed to get a postumus 40% discount for my grandparents, who were shipwrecked on the Hurtigruten off Trondheim in 1993 and never managed to benefit from the money off offer before they died.

People in the UK are beginning to realise that singing happy birthday twice simply doesn’t work. Either it’s sung too quickly or only sung once because the repetition is boring. I was pleased today when my 4 year old granddaughter came out of school announcing that now we all have to sing “one, two, three, four five, once I caught a fish alive . . .” Ultimately more sensible for young kids as it has 2 verses and a nice tempo that you don’t necessarily feel needs speeding up. Meets the 15-20 seconds guidelines.

Only thing is I can’t get it out of my head now, worse than that “baby shark”, which actually would be another good one as doing baby, mummy and daddy shark takes over 20 secs so even if you sung it quicker would still be fine.

If you don’t have young kids/grandkids you may not know what I’m going on about and if you do, apologies for putting baby shark back in your head.

No it doesn't but is an explanation of the higher mortality rate in Italy,

Italy 1 in 15 cases Norway 1 in 598 as of 0100hrs 12/2/2020

Also cases confirmed is also a function of the testing regimen in operation.

Well, japan seems to have it under control and they have an even older population. Or they are not testing enough.

Italy elderly percentage not remarkably different form a lot of other countries - less than 10% difference - across the top 6 and behind Japan in the table above ... Perhaps more of a function of living closer to younger generations but would imagine that could apply to other countries near the top of the table too - Portugal , Greece.

It seems to me that the official numbers of positive tests are behind the curve. Not everyone who comes into contact with a person who is positive is tested. The real number of people who have Clovid 19 is going to be way higher than the official number. The drastic measures that were introduced in China have now had an impact and numbers seem to be going down. Would we in Europe be happy to have our movements curtailed like China to help to stop the spread, I don’t know that some people would.

That's what I said a few posts back. $hit is going to hit the fan in a massive way. People will have their movements curtailed whether they like it or not.
UK has almost 500 cases confirmed, that was like Italy a week or two ago. Like Germany last week who now has 2000.

and meanwhile in the US:

President Trump said the restrictions did not apply to the United Kingdom.

Is that good or bad? I'm not quite sure what to make of it... A benefit of having left the EU?

Not the EU directly - Trump's ban applies to countries in the Schengen area, which the UK never joined. Ireland is also outside Schengen and unaffected by this restriction.

Bit daft really, what's to stop Europeans just jumping on Eurostar and flying from the UK? Unless we pull up the drawbridge and plug the tunnel.
Might be a good time to dust off the FlyBe fleet!

The cases confirmed are rising due to the awareness. I'm now aware of the symptoms which is causing me a real issue at the moment. Why? Because I've had the key symptoms / issues back at the beginning of the year.
The icing on the cake is that I fell ill within a few hours of popping into my local Chinese takeaway. I kid you not. The Wife caught it from me, with an hour or so, but thankfully no one else.
