Sleeping bags or duvet?

We have just purchased our first camper and looking forward to trips away. Can anyone recommend whether we should go with sleeping bags or duvets? Also, are there any recommendations for purchases that we should have on our wish list for the future? (We are a bit broke for now!)

In that case and to be honest even if your not, just use what you’ve got handy and see how you get on.
We originally used a spare duvet but moved to a sleeping bag.
There are too many variables and we are all different.

Advice please..... I am sure everyone has their preferences, duvets, blankets, sleeping bags.... We have decided on sleeping bags but want a double that can be unzipped and made into two singles. 2 - 3 seasons would be ideal (not Dec to March). Will be looking to buy at next weeks NEC show...

If sleeping upstairs, we prefer sleeping bags which tend to be less bulky and don’t rest up against the bellows, which can wick rain through the fabric.

We tried sleeping bags but now use a king size duvet all year round.

RAB Sleeping Bags for us any weather.
We found it much better than fighting for the Duvet and waking up cold when someone who should not be mentioned pulls the covers off you.
Sleep much better now and can zip both together if necessary.

I use a duvalay. Find it comfy and it works for me. As above though, start with whatever you may have and see how you get on. Also consider how long your camping season might be. Most of all enjoy!

I switched from bags to a duvet, maybe I've just got a wee bit too old for the bags, I tend to get all knotted up in them. Having said that, my kids sleep upstairs & use bags or duvets. I think it's totally a personal thing.

Yes they have a memory foam base built in. They are bulky when rolled up but I have had mine for a couple of years and think it’s great. I have the thinner 2.5cm base (from memory).

Hi... we’ve done duvet since 2013 binding them up tight like a sleeping bag for transportation kids in the roof as well single duvets
re must haves... short trips away get a 2 or 3 man pop up tent for extra outside storage it’s a easy option when you’ve got extra gear but no inside space.
Long trips vango blow up side drive away owning ... the big one it’s super quick and easily our best extra purchase.
You’ll never look back, super around family vehicles.

I always use a duvet.
Although a sleeping bag can come in handy if there's too much noise outside, and you want to get downstairs in the middle of the night (or rain, or storm).
I just fold it in 4 and put it on the back shelf when closing the roof.
You can always try both and see what suits you best.
We can not say this or that is good for you.

We got our bus this year and invested in duvalys. We have only had a couple of nights on the drive but I love em. Only negative bulky compared to sleeping bags but I can live with that

You can’t take too many warm comfy blankets.

Ridiculous as it may sound as we sleep downstairs, and used a "super king-size duvet". One that's meant for 6-ft bed on something half the size. It's a low tog down filled one, which when rolled up, secured with a couple of straps, reduces to virtually nothing. We store it, our pillows and night clothes, in an Ikea bag. Works well for both warm and cold weather conditions.

We’ve always used sleep bags, but large ones that can zip together, occasionally my wife sleeps “up top” (so to speak!) for a better nights sleep, we very rarely take the sleeping bags out of our California. If you use a duvet you have the faff of putting a sheet on the seats

I bought a matress memory foam topper from one of those cheap shops for around £10 and a duvet cover to match the interior of the van and used a double douvet upstairs.... Unbelievably comfortable... Sleep like a baby..... I too get trapped in sleeping bags.... Cant wait to get up there again in July....
