Adblue - refilling issues?

Hi you can change your dash to liters to convert it go to settings- units change it to liters/km and it will give you the info. Also if the pump clicks out then the tank will be over full unfortunately.
All AdBlue pumps I have used (from Pamplona to Palermo) have been the same. It seems nuts that VW don't design the AdBlue tank so the pumps cut out at the correct refill level.

I shall check very carefully next time I refill my AdBlue. Thank you so much for the excellent advice.

At the risk of it falling off, a carefully designed extension hose could be put on the end of the pump nozzle to take the level down to that of the filling kit? (just thinking out loud)

The MFD is very precise about how much to refill with AdBlue. There is not really an excuse to overfill.

And really, who wants to be measuring out pig pee.

Not to mention the awkwardness of measuring out of a heavy 10l container, I'm lucky in that I can lift easily but not everyone can and really this stuff should be idiot-proof.

I have been busy trying to find a garage with an Ad-Blue pump in our area for when we first need to top it up, so I don't need to worry about volumes to add, just fill with the pump until it clicks. This thread knocks this idea on the head. Surely something as fundamental as this should be foolproof.

A couple of questions -
- Do do other makes of van have the same problems with Ad-Blue filling, or is it a VW issue?
- And how much would a VW garage charge to fill it up?

It does sounds to me more and more like these T6 diesel vans are like high maintenance race horses rather than the every day workhorses you might think they are.

Hi @DG1 all vw dealers have to charge the same £1.50 per liter and no booking is required just turn up and they will fill it up that’s the rules vw have set dealers. As for other makes of vans I don’t know but I do know ford are having a lot of issues with there adblue system

I get over 2000 miles per gallon, so 600 miles range would be ~1.35 litres. Add 12.5 litres and you have 13.85 litres in a tank which should have no more than 13 litres.

I can’t say if this would be a problem or not. If overfilling is an issue I would hope the safe level of filling is somewhat higher than the recommended maximum.

Unfortunately it’s not 13 liters is the maximum hence it’s always advisable to fill up 1/2 a liter less than the maximum advised on the dash to allow for deviations in pump quantity.

I use Road Trip.

I use it to record all my diesel and AdBlue consumption. I reckon that if ever there is a problem with my engine, increased fuel consumption could be a first indicator.

Is it for iPhone only? Can't find it in Android apps...

Try searching road trip mpg in the play store. According to a quick google search it’s available on both platforms

Thanks, maybe it is restricted to UK store, I don't see it in Belgium... But I found some similar ones!
