Hi - We have put a cycle rack on the back of the California T5 so when loaded with bikes unable to open the boot - Which is where the dogs were (on the top shelf!). Could someone please advise how they travel with their dogs with the cycle rack on - We have two beagles who do not do as they are told and need to be tied down with car harness to stop them leaping into the front seats.....
Thanks :crazy

Hi, we travel or three dogs in two soft cages on the rear shelf as this is by far the safest place, if tailgate is loaded simply turn the cages so that the doors face the front of the Cali, then when you want the dogs out just slide the seat/bed forward (use a throw on upholstery if not seat covered) and let the dogs out through the side door :thumb

Our black lab goes in her bed in the living space area.

When we arrive, she goes in a "pup" tent. So far, she's survived...

Chris,

Soft cages sound interesting... not seen them before.

Any details?

Could help with our two Border Collies... who can be a a bit collie-ish :)

Thanks

Mark

My cali-pugs travel on the back seat ...they have cool harnesses and a clip that slides on the seat belt and clips on the harness ..they can still move about and lay down and when stopping etc they don't jump out :thumb :thumb

We also use a soft crate in the back, the big bonus of these is they fold virtually flat so we chuck it in the tent when we arrive on site, they are also handy when on the ferry etc.. if you don't want to give the dog the full run of the van ! ( dogs get sea sick like humans so better to have the vomit contained ) :thumb Also buy a good quality one as we initially purchased a cheap one from Pets at home which fell apart after a few months.

Hi Mark,

We use (our opinion the best) these with our Italians http://maelson.de/index.php/soft-kennel.html .....you should be fine with two of the 72 size if travelling "Ruby" n "Silver" separately.

It's a shame as you could of had a good look at "Ronni's" when we were at Defford, if you want details of a good UK distributor just let me know :thumb

Spot on Chris... thanks. Will take a look.

Indeed, the girls like to travel separate

Unfortunately couldn't make the meet... will try the next one.

Beagles and softcrates do not mix, the hound's natural propensity to explore and the average beagle temperament mean if they won't stay still out of a crate then they'll destroy the zip within seconds if you put them in one and turn your back for a second. Trust me, we have 6 beagles and whilst we adore them they can be - and are, often - little swines. Would suggest a Croft medium crate in the central area if you have legroom, thats what we used in our car in the old days when we only had 2 beagles. Of course if they don't get on in close proximity (1 of ours wont "share") then it's rather more problematic.

Defford... = Hopyard - Far too slow today...

Asparagus was the give away

We have purchased an Anchor floor lashing for use when we stop and want to attach dogs long lead.
Has anyone fitted one of these... two questions is it easy to fit ? And can you still move the back seat fully into its 'bed position' or does the anchor impede this ?

Hi
Could you provide details of harness for your dog? Thank you
Greg

Hi Greg, we have a Labrador and he will be on back seat when travelling in an Ezydog Drive Harness (AmazonUK). He is used to wearing a harness( Ruffwear) when walking so hopefully he'll be OK with this set up ...not tried it out yet, new van and still waiting for waterproof seat covers to arrive ...will update on how it goes as some dog owners have said their dogs find them a bit 'restrictive' !
