Bigger vans

Isn’t there one going cheap in Spain right now? ;)

Light surface scratches, robust vehicle off road and on its roof…:talktothehand

Spaghetti is part of the package whether you like it or not

“Ooh, you are awful!” ……….. :D

Prob gotta be a certain age for that one …..:D

I think it was €138k
Surprising as most the Palmo stuff is £150k+

I keep jumping back to the Grand California as our potential 'bigger van upgrade'....

Everything with every vehicle is a compromise, including our existing Cali Ocean. But I cant help but feel that it's a good bit of kit for the money, despite my dislike for a number of elements.

150k for a Grand Hymer with swamper setup that sleeps two....or an 80k Grand California that sleeps four.

But boy would I like to have an evening with the family where we aren't tripping up over each other / the bed each night :D

Have you seen how small the upper bed is in a Grand.
It’s a coffin box and too small for adults or anyone over 8 years old…

The Grand should’ve of had a poptop version, so it was more like a proper Cali. It would’ve sold in big numbers if Volkwagen had offered a true 4 berth.

Well, the roof bed is designed for children, not adults. Which is just as well, as we have two children :D That's akin to complaining an Cali isn'tgreat on a racetrack.

You do realise, children grow… :talktothehand
My 8 year old wouldn’t be comfortable in one already.

Problem with most high top beds, I've looked at many and they have similar access issues.
Ok for one child or even adult but once one person is installed theres not enough room for the other to enter into bed.
You tend to enter head first, the fun begins trying to turn around to lie down.

We camped next to a hired van from Netherlands last year, and it was perfect for a family. It was a MAN based (Crafter) van, with an elevating roof conversion. A fixed lower bed, full sized top bed, lots of storage under the lower bed, and a decent kitchen. The only issue for us was the paint colour - mostly bright orange, but then it was from the Netherlands ;).

I’d love to know who the converter was.

The ultimate campervan, Uk made a van that not only looks good with a superb quality finish but also has the basics right.
To many vans look good but lack decent, insulation, water capacity and adequate battery banks to truly supply off grid needs.
A young new company with a fantastic attitude, really enjoyed meeting them at the N E C.
Yes it's expensive, but for what you get it's decent value.
From what I believe they had a successful show with orders.

I’m sure someone posted about that on another thread. Cracking looking van, wasn’t the price north of £200k…

Looks good..... but if you have to ask the price......... :D Deffo for those whose with a LOT of cash to spend!

Starts at around 155k but high standard specification, all season van, gas free, composting toilet to save water use and 800 Ah of lithium.( 24 v system - 400Ah).
Poptop is available as an option so is aircon in the habitation area.
Also have the facility to take water from any water course (not sea water) and pump it into van and double filter through UV and canister filters.
So far top of our list for when we retire and travel extensively.
What I really liked was their willingness to custom build with clients, we still wanted four birth's but only very occasional use, so happy to enlarge roof opening with access to roof box tent which was nice to hear.

Also looked at a Frankia Yukon at 136k, instantly disliked the fact that furniture screws were covered by stickers, really 136k for stickers!
Walked in and walked out.

Sadly most if not all Motorhomes will have a few stickers on view. In fact if you buy new you’ll probably find a few spare stickers in the cutlery drawer. As for the Yukon, if you look at the Fiat based version you’ll find that it’s actually a Pilote PVC. It’s only the Merc based version of the Yukon that Frankia have shared design, materials etc.
