Bigger vans

On the verge of swapping my Ocean for a GC600 before the order books close on Tuesday. Likely we won’t be able to change the spec once the order’s in so tonight will be spent trying to get it right. Pressure, pushin’ down on me…

If you really want want one why not buy secondhand, spoke to the owner of a motorhome dealer in Shrewsbury the other week and he said the trade is very nervy of them (not sure why)

But one thing for sure loads are sitting unsold for over 6 months, if you get one of them and it's not for you, you don't lose a bundle?

I did have a look at ex-demonstrators but am not seeing particularly big savings, there are some which are maybe 2-3k less than the one I’ve configured through DTD but that’s about all. Quite a few 2020 vans are still hovering around the £70k mark which is surprising.

You'd probably get a better deal if you were prepared to go a little older. Also most dealers expect to be knocked down on their demonstrators.

As a matter of interest, did you get a part-ex price on your Cali, has Bellowgate affected your trade in value?

I did, will lose about 5k on it (it’ll be about a year old by then) but the dealer’s happy for me to try and sell it privately between now and when I collect the GC. Am optimistic I can limit my losses once the order book closes :)

Shout if you need any first hand experience, and opinion from an owner. spec’d mine from new and ticked lots of boxes. Had it 2 years this coming June. No regreats.
Good luck!

Talk me through your wheels.

I’m thinking of ordering a 4 Motion Cali tomorrow

Biggest dilemma right now is the colour, am not particularly taken with any of the options in truth. We’re thinking of going for white and saving the 3k on a two tone but it’s definitely got ‘hire vehicle’ vibes…maybe some decals will liven it up lol.

Get some stickers. Or wrap sections. There have been some effective ways to camouflage the neanderthalness too.

Go white. I don’t think they lend themselves to two tone. Pocket the £. A few thoughtful decals (my floral specialist can assist), will work wonders to personalise it.

White can be a good base. This is a fellow GC owners white van.

If we went two tone it’d be white and red, but not sure I’m totally sold for 3k.

What you are doing with them after all the effort you put in!
It was a labour of love :D The p/ex price I have doesn’t include them so I may end up selling them seperately at some stage…preference would be to sell them with the van in a private sale though. They’ve got my active TPMS sensors in them and I’d need to get them out and back in to the Woodstocks, which I foresee as faff.

Has anyone seen the Swift Trekker in the flesh at one of dealerships they seem to be doing the rounds at. I know there was mention of this van a few pages ago, and there are some videos of it on YouTube, but interested if anyone has first hand knowledge of the quality? If £70k can ever be considered good value, then it seems good value.

I went to see one. The quality‘s reasonable if unspectacular and they’ll sell well I’m sure. It wasn’t for us but mainly due to our circumstances, a tall van with a 2m ladder up to the poptop doesn’t really work when travelling with very young kids. As ugly as the GC600’s forehead is, being able to throw tired kids in to the overcab bed from ground level is a godsend.

If the kids were a fair bit older I’d probably have considered the 5.5m Trekker, as the videos say it just feels that bit more spacious than the 6m version.

That's really helpful. Thanks. There's a dealer not too far away who has them on site this weekend coming so thought I'd bob over if they seemed ok. The 5.5m world probably be the one we'd be the most interested in. Having recently viewed a GC, it would be good to compare. Thanks again.
