Carpet

Mucksmuff, thanks for the recommendation for mrcarmatts. I emailed QTM to ask for an update about the availability of my chosen carpet colour but had no reply so decided to bite the bullet and order from mrcarmatts. I ordered on Tuesday 3rd and they arrived safely and well packaged today, Friday 6th, which is not bad for a product which was made to order (I chose truffle brown so very much doubt they would have had any pre-cut). The quality seems good so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are a good fit when I put them in tomorrow (too dark and cold to be out there now). No more waiting for my carpets :happy

Hi Maud very happy with mine to, and cheaper than QTM even with VIP Discount :bananadance

Italiahorse looks like you've laid one of your tiles the wrong way round, a bit of shade variation!
No, you're supposed to mix them up and lay them randomly. But, in the Cali floor space, they should have been much smaller tiles, say 4" squares. Start again! :Grin

They do add a bit of colour though. What is that item in front of the kitchen cupboards?

Yes I got one wrong. Didn't realise.
Bought the floor tiles at a homeless closing down sale.
Smaller tiles would move around.
Its a standard California so the tie down is standard.

The red box contains my toilet. Just took it oft floor to fit the carpets.

A quick update on the QTM car mats for the 3 seat bench Beach. I met up with Chris last night to try out the prototype mats in the van. The fit was good, a couple of tweaks required to get the front and back sections to meet up under the bench. We did find that the clearance under the bench drawers was quite snug. That will limit the depth of pile on the mats, so no shag pile carpet:( I'm afraid. The seat slid back and forwards fine over the sample.

Hopefully I'll have the first production version soon and will post up some pictures.:bananadance

Thanks for the update, I have been hassling QTM:) as the Beach is turning up next week and I would have liked a full set of mats in it from the off. I noticed on here that someone bought a full set of mats from Californiacamping and they had the same issue of the draws in the rear bench being a tight fit.

Look forward to getting the okay as I am keen to order

Hi all,

Just to follow up with what Riofer posted really...

Having never seen in a van till last night, it seems the rails are much shallower in depth meaning the bench sits a lot lower to the floor.
This means our prestige carpet will not fit in the Beach model, like it does the for normal California.
Can anyone confirm this with the rails at all?

This does mean that the highest quality you can get in is our velour carpet.

We are having to extend the middle section a little as when the bench seat is pushed all the way back, there is a 7" gap before the rear boot mat starts. We are aiming to get that so they virtually meet up. Or at least to the point that you'll never see the gap with the seat all the way back. I guess the Beach models seats move more than the Cali does.

Just to also clear up a question about carpet out of stock issues. It was just from being over Xmas as we always run stock down. We then got let down from our supplier, but everything is back in stock now, even the dark truffle brown prestige which we were out of for quite some time.

Are there any plans to bring out a set of mats that will fit the 2 seater Beach with cubby box? I know that Brandrup have them but would be more than happy to buy from QTMDirect2U.

Hi Big Bloke,

Not sure what you mean by "chubby box"?

The Van we've been profiling and testing with had 2 seats in front (drivers seat and single passenger seat) if that's what you mean by that?

There is a California Beach 2 seater with cubby storage box. As with all of the California varients it has 2 front single seats. It has the same rear seat (2 seater on rails) as the California SE, Then where the SE has the built in kithchen units, the 2 seater Beach has a storage box, the storage box is a different profile to the SE kitchen (its straight edged).
Brandrup do sell the mats for the 2 seater Beach as do another German company,
Hope this makes sense? Have a look on VW website or Brandrup.

Hi,
Cheers for a quick reply.

So your model only has a 2 seater bench seat in the back, rather than a 3 seater bench?
If you've got a picture of the inside that would be of great help for me to understand.

Once we get this one sorted for the 3 seater bench version. I can get a paper template of that carpet and post to you for you to make alterations to it.

2 seater Beach.jpg I haven't got an interior photo of ours but I found this photo on the internet, to show you what I mean.

I'd be more than happy to help with the template Chris.

Thanks for that image. I understand a little better now.
Does that storage box slide on that rail too?
Also, with that storage box there. I'm wondering whether it affects the boot space mat too so may just send both so you can double check that at the same time.

As soon as we've sorted this 3 seater bench version i'll get a paper template of this area sent out to you.
If you can private message me your address i can get that done as soon as were ready then.

The storage box dosn't slide as such but is held in place on the far floor rail by a couple of knobs. It can be removed, although I've never tried to take it out. Its used for storage as well as being part of the bed system when the bench seat is folded flat, making a wider bed than on the SE.
The storage box may affect the boot space mat as well, I'm not too sure though.
I'll pm you my address.

We have a small problem sorting out this Beach profile as now the middle section needed to be extended, it has gone over the width of carpet we use.
We're working with a customer at present to come up with a plan to solve the issue.
Either making it a 2 piece middle section, cutting off the little side piece on the opposite side of the door. My concerns here though are that the little extra piece will just not look right.
Or we extend the boot mat piece so that comes further and meets the middle section. My concerns there are that when the bench seat is pushed right back, you will physically see the two mats joining and it will be right where your feet are when sat on the bench seat.

I don't think this will be a problem when we look at models with a 2 seat bench and storage box as that box means the floor profile is thinner anyway.

Sorry to hijack.....
Chris (qtm) any further progress on carpet for 3 seat bench for Cali beach, really interested in getting a set.
Tom

Hi Tom,
We are awaiting a customer to pop back to us to work out the best way forward with this middle section mat.

Thanks Chris,
I'm a willing guinea pig if you need a second prototype, use my beach for surfing and windsurfing so regularly move the seats around.

Hey Chris,
Any further update on the carpet as would really like to get a set ASAP.
Cheers
Tom

Unfortunately we are no further forward at present.
I have a few family problems at present which is taking up all my spare time.
But rest assured when i can i will be picking this one back up to solve.

Hi,
I have a question on the carpet, I have a beach with 3 seater and 2 additional seats, if i buy a carpert for the passengers area, could they move their seats forward and backward?
Or when a carpet is used the seats should be considered fixed?
Thank you so much.

Fabio
