Central Control Panel issues

Would the above be able to do it do you think?

I don't think there is anything electrical involved it shows you removing the control panel unplugging it removing a few screws
Replacing the knob and resembling I will email you a copy to see what you think

Interestingly my warranty replacement control panel has fridge temp calibrated in degrees not 1 - 7 as it used to be.

So maybe faulty ones are being repaired & fitted as replacements ?

I'm on my third control panel.

The original one was replaced under warranty after the button developed a fault and kept sticking. The second one malfunctioned and was replaced 6 weeks out of warranty last year, although I did negotiate a 60% goodwill contribution from VW customer service/Birmingham van centre.

Sorry to hear that as i was hoping to buy one on return to uk before going to italy and croatia after vanfest. Any idea where i can buy one?

I've just had mine fail during a 5 week tour of France. The roof came down but didn't complete the closure sequence so it was neither up nor down, nor would it move any more.
Had to have the control panel replaced at considerable expense (~750 euros) and a 4-day wait.
See my posts on "Beach roof versus Cali" because I can't stand the worry each time I use it that it might - for no apparent reason fail again.

HAS ANYONE FOUND SOMEONE THAT CARRIES OUT REPAIRS TO THE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM PORTO PORTUGAL AND WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY AND LUCK HAVE MANAGED TO GET ROOF UP AND DOWN. SO IT IS QUITE OBIVOUS TO ME THE UNIT WOULD FUNCTION IF NOT FOR THE FAULTY LCD, I AM SO P- - - - D OFF I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING SELLING OUR CALI, ENGINE WISE IT HAS BEEN PERFECT ITS A SHAME VW DOES NOT ADMIT THERE IS A FAULT WITH THIS COMPONENT. we used a company on Ebay that claimed to be able to fix control panels, they had our panel for over 6 weeks and when it came back we still had the same faul on it and I was £70 out of pocket!! Luckily we opened a Ebay dispute which went in our favour.

Try PM volksvans or "volksvan club" user on here can repair control panel.

I wrote an email complaint to vw customer services earlier this week in the hope that they will replace it despite being well out of warranty. I suggest you do the same rupee but maybe in lower case!
Maybe the more people that do complain the better the chance of vw doing something about it although I wouldn't bet my house on it lol.
Although I've found that I'm getting used to having no display now and manage ok with roof operation and fridge etc so may leave it!

Thanks Freeley have been in touch VW Germany were i bought LHD Cali, as i had it metriculated and it now has Portuguese Reg, they have contacted Siva PT there main distibutor in Portugal to corrspond with me will keep you posted how i fare RUPEE :doh

After much toing and froing with vw customer services and my dealer at carrs Exeter they've offered me -40% discount off the cost of a new control panel, so £430.
Still more than I wanted to pay but they won't drop any further so will get it booked in and sorted before we go away in September. It will have a 2 year warranty as well so preferable to buying one off eBay.
So for anyone else with an out of warranty cali it's worth contacting customer services before paying £700!

The failure of these units is now becoming very common indeed, although the faults seem to be split between the non-functioning button, and the LCD display developing blank lines across its screen until it becomes unreadable. I had to have mine replaced (for the LCD reason) just under 2 years ago. It was out of warranty by 15 months but I received a 30% goodwill discount (on a £600 item!). And now - what do you know? The replacement unit is showing the same symptoms as the first. Fortunately, it's still got 7 weeks to go on its warranty, so it's booked in next week for a swap-over. I think the point has been made before that VW is risking a huge chunk of its reputation for charging an extraordinarily high price for what appears to be a relatively simple device, but poorly designed and manufactured, and I couldn't agree more with those other comments.

And even more ridiculous that they won't make any attempt to repair them but insist on you stumping up (in my case ) £700 to replace it.
It was only after making a song and dance about it that they gave me 40% off. I'm sure they've caught many owners for the full whack.

Quick update to my post on 2.8.14: the unit was replaced last week under warranty as it was just under 2 year's old since it was replaced the first time. The original unit was just over 4 years old when it packed up, but I was offered a 30% goodwill discount at that time. Because I contributed the majority of that replacement cost, this second replacement was covered 100% by warranty. However, I was told 'that's that' for any further warranty, as the new one will not be covered should it fail - "there is no warranty on warranty". I do still have the failed first unit but I don't think anyone has come across someone who can repair them reliably - am I right? I am not at all confident that the new unit will be any more reliable than the previous 2, so I'm considering my (very limited) options! Any comments anyone?!

As i have said in a previous post i do know an electronics engineer locally who said he would try and repair them but he needs a sample to look at first for evaluation, could you send faulty unit to me?
