Got in the van this morning and the big screen (Discover Media Pro) was black and I had a warning in the cockpit screen regarding traffic sign recognition not working. Tried in vain to get it back to life by locking/unlocking/starting with no success. Phoned Citygate Wooburn Green to book it in and the service advisor (Jason) suggested I held the on/off button (touchscreen) for 10 seconds and then release. Hey Presto it’s working again :) You may know this already but thought i’d share it - i couldn’t find anything in the manual covering this issue.
Happy Christmas all.

They had the same problem for a while with the MK 7 Golf R until software update no rhyme or reason when it happened

Hi GrumpGrandad.

I have the same problem on my 2018 204 DSG, screen freezes, goes black sometimes rear view camera works , complete multi media failure.
Already have had software update lasted 1 hour.
Dealership doing another software update in New year.
Has any other forum members experiencing same or similar problems what was the fix or outcome.

Hi Cali kid,
there is a known issue with DM Touch screen failure, it applies to certain suffix models. I posted in another thread to highlight the issue.
I had this from a com I have used several times previously & trust for no nonsense advice:

“re faulty screen: we are aware of a fault with ALL VW Discover Media Navigation Systems (part number ending with ‘C’). EVERY single one of them will fail at some point due to what must be a manufacturing problem. Strangely, it only seems to happen after the 3 year warranty has expired!!! (very suspicious!)
Unsurprisingly, VW are not admitting any liability!
The problem is caused by one of 3 factors and we can ALWAYS repair them. The cost depends on which fault and we can provide an exact and no obligation”

Hi Perfectos.
Thank you for your reply, apparently I have to let the Dealership try again, they have informed me sometimes the head unit does not accept the software upgrade first time.
From your explanation It will fail again, I have however insisted they fit a new head unit , I will just have to wait and see.
I have just managed to reset the head unit to factory settings I will leave it a few hours before I try and reset the radio and phone.
I did purchase the extended warranty so Five years in total.

Alan.

Hi all, has anyone experienced this blank pro media screen recently? Yesterday I had a medical appointment so thought I would give the Cali a run, first during the trip I lost all volume to the radio, it was if it had gone on mute, but could not see how, then I experienced the screen going completely blank. I tried holding down the what would be power button for ten seconds and it did power back on. Everything worked for about 2 minutes then it powered off again before restarting. Not overly impressive for such an expensive vehicle. Comments appreciated if I need to pursue with dealer etc.

Not recently, just had it the once.
I had something different yesterday though, the vw satnav got lost. Was showing me about 10 miles from where I really was. When I switched to CarPlay & google maps that showed me in the right place.

Yes, I had it a while back. Finger on the power button for 10 seconds as you did and it’s all been OK since.

Ressurecting this thread as I have a similar problem - not blackscreen but deterioration of functions on Discover Pro. On a longish journey today my system was initially showing loss of SOS call (not unusual but it didnt reset after a restart as usual). Then I lost the mic on handsfree, although I could hear callers ok. Then I had the warning that traffic sign recognition wasn't working and then navigation went haywire (incorrect positioning and time error) and eventually disappeared. So basically it had a complete meltdown. I tried switching ignition off and lock/unlock and the system tried to restart but got stuck on loading profile. Got home and tried the 10 second on/off reset mentioned in this thread (it showed a restart from the Welcome screen but again got stuck on loading profile). So now I am stumped and cannot find anything useful in the manual. Can anyone advise if there is a way to hard reset the system - maybe pulling a fuse or disconnecting the battery - and would this be advisable? Or is it a trip to the dealership?

Hi @GrahamB , Probably not related but my van defaulted to Guest user profile earlier this week and would not allow me to change the user back to me as primary user. I got onto the WeConnect online chat and they said that some changes to WeConnect were in progress?! Anyway next day I could select myself as primary user and all OK.

Thanks @GrumpyGranddad I guess it could be something like that if there was a software update that didnt load correctly causing the glitch on restart? But not sure why all the system components would fall over one by one while in operation. It seems to have lost my profile data now because it shows ‘Empty’ on the goodbye screen, but it doesnt get far enough into the boot up cycle to enable a guest log in on restart. Weird.

Has it corrected itself @GrahamB ?

Unfortunately not GG. Booked in tomorrow for diagnosis at Breeze. Apparently they can do a complete software reload and that may fix it. They are doing the recall on the Bowden cables in the doors while its with them because it takes a while apparently. I will post an update!

Good luck @GrahamB
Had the door recall when mine was in for an oil change recently. Didn’t take too long.

All sorted. They basically did a hard reset to fix a configuration fault that was stopping the system components talking to each other and stalling the boot cycle. Also did the bowden cable recall and an Adblue top up. Full marks to Breeze Poole for customer service - got me booked in and sorted within 48 hours.

Glad it’s sorted @GrahamB Did they say how to do a hard reset? Is it something that only the workshop can do?

Thanks GG. Yes I think its a workshop only job. Beyond holding the power button down for 10 secs for sure. It sounded like they had it hooked up to analyse it and then forced a restart. But I don’t know how they did it exactly.

When I started my car the screen continued to "loading profile". nothing to push since nothing works , just continuing loading profile......I tried the long push on the on/off and it goes to the clock, off and restart.....but again, only loading profile ??
this really sucks since Im in Japan where no dealer can do an update or recovery because they don't sell VW vans in Japan......so Im really looking for any help and ideas from you guys out there !!!

A shot in the dark @1whitesamurai but I guess you could try forcing a reset by either disconnecting, waiting a minute and then reconnecting the starter battery OR pulling and reinserting fuses 5 to 8? (See attached). Probably worth a try in your situation.

Thanks , however ...my concern is that if I pull the fuses and I doesn't work, then all settings for the car is gone too.... I remember disconnecting the car battery once and all settings needs to be "checked" again...........and when I don't know when I can fix this problem, Im afraid to do so .....hope it make sense ?

I think others on here can confirm this, but I believe everything will reset once the fuses are replaced. Some functions might require you to drive the van for a few miles to reset.

Yesterday returning from night away, the CID screen kept rebooting continuously and eventually shutdown altogether. Also, no power in the front USB ports, SOS fault, traffic sign recog fault etc.

Long press on power button bought it back but every time I inputted destination it rebooted again a couple of times. Eventually settled down and was ok for 80 miles or so. Stopped at shop for 5 mins and it started the same power-cycling loop after restart.

Also need to get the bowden cable campaign issue done so will give Breeze at Pompey a call.

Sounds like I'm not alone. Also not a new problem I guess!

Thanks GG, you sounds like you know what you are talking about I’m just too nervous to do it right now, because I have nowhere to go if it gets worse , I hope more members will agree with GG ??

Theres nothing you can do that will make it worse.
If you disconnect the starter battery under the bonnet, when you reconnect you will get lots of warning messages & "Bongs" You will need to turn the steering full lock in both directions & then drive about a mile or so & you will find all the warnings will be reset.
