California Club Meet Dorset Cali Meet , Highlands End Bridport - 16-18 March

A quick report from your roving Cali reporter.

As it's a long gallop from Chez Nous to Dorset (3.5 hours if the sat nav can be believed), Mrs B and I decided to rest the horses at Blandford Forum last night thereby arriving at the this weekends campsite this afternoon and what a lovely site it is.
The spectacular views of the rolling Dorset coutryside and coast were bathed in sunshine when we arrived. We are just about to go for a swim in the indoor pool before anyone we know gets here. (The long months of hibernation and feasting have taken there toll and we have no wish to display our rather puffed up winter plumage.
We are both looking forward to meeting you all.

I ought to mention that we haven't gone against the organisers instructions and arrived too early. We merely booked a extra night to escape from our grandparent duties for longer.
Paul , just told Brin you were trying out the indoor pool and he thought you and Paddy had taken one with you ! Knowing how you love your home comforts ! x

Don't you start Leslie. I've had to buy a trailer to carry lifes essential comforts with us because the Cali is full of bags of knitting etc etc. :headbang
We didn't go near the pool in the end. We felt that using it just because it's there wasn't a good enough reason.

Didn’t know you knitted Paul !

I can well believe you have a trailer,it’s certainly not surprised us .
Enjoy your weekend with everyone, and see you in April .

Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge at the meet today, nice to put faces to names. You have all cost me a small fortune as I have just ordered the new mattress and thinking about shelf, running bars screen covers and more hope to see you again soon.

Just about surviving with @Borris & @SimonB in a field -10 outside

Sorry for my rapid departure. I suddenly remembered I had a log burner at home. So 4.5 hours later, me and the dogs are home, but only just as the snow has arrived here too.

Just shows the practicality of the Cali: 30 minutes from decision to leave to being en-route, then 4.5 hours without a stop and with just a slightly numb bum.

Thanks to Martin and Simon (and any others that helped with the organisation), and to those new Cali friends I made.

Sorry for our early departure on Saturday, @Heather and I are very much fair weather campers.

Really great site and hope to catch more meets in the future. Thanks again @Martin and the other organizers for setting everything up.

Only the "die hards" go camping in that kind of weather....:thumb
Packing up tents and roof covers will be ....cracking fun ...later on the day !

The trailer was because there wasn't enough space for the wine and candelabra otherwise.
Out of kindness to the aspidistra we left it at home as it is a bit sensitive to snow.
A very good evening and nice to see so many people.

More to the point, why has somone got a trailer for a 2 day meet

Personal i would not ever think of getting a trailer but i can very well understand the fact Simon does this . Together with his good friend Borris they seem to make it very cosy in theire tent and if you only stay in the region carry a trailer is a nice way of taking stuff.
Don't think he would take the trailer when gooing off to a european trip.
Those wine&dine evenings looks ace :thumb

Hello Wim
The trailer and tent belong to Borris and the wine and dine evenings are indeed great fun. We've decided to stay an extra day, due to the weather, so might have another one tonight.
We will possibly give the aspidistra another outing for the Gloucestershire meet along with the candelabra which is the next planned meeting of the California Candelabra Club. Looking forward to seeing you both there.
Simon
