Hi our California is saying ignition on and won’t allow the roof to go up ! It done this yesterday when the roof was half way down and then finally allowed it to come down. Anyone had this issue ? Thanks in advance

Do you have the engine running while putting the roof up ?
You are meant to which would mean that the ignition is always
on

It won’t allow the roof to open with the ignition on or off

I had a similar situation last year which turned out to be a faulty (cracked) sensor in the roof system.

Initially I had an error appear when driving that the roof was open - I had not raised the roof for several weeks at that point. Initially I could raise and close the roof, but shortly after the roof would not closely properly in good order and took some messing about to get it to close, and then the roof wouldn’t open at all.

The fix was replacement of the sensor loom. Took two cracks at getting it replaced under warranty. No issues since.

Not quit correct. The Ignition has to be On as a Safety feature to prevent operating the Roof accidentally. The Roof hydraulics are actually powered by the Leisure Batteries.
If the Leisure Batteries have a low voltage then the Control Panel should say “ Start Engine “.
No harm in running the engine if you wish though.:thumb

What voltage is showing on the Control Panel? If 11.5 v or less Start Engine.
Otherwise try this -

Check Control Panel Diagnostics.

Control panel On
Press and Hold R lower button and then press Control Knob for 5 secs.
New Hidden Menu . Scroll to VW Diagnostics.
If there are any codes shown, take note and then Reset/Clear.
Return to Main Menu.
Switch Off Control Panel using L lower button. Wait 30 secs and Switch On.
Try Heater.

For those of you who don't know, if you ever get any problems with roof stuck or any other error say with the heater, you are able to access the hidden menu in your control panel as used by the VW Engineers.
Access as follows:

1. Hold down the centre of the rotary button together with the menu button (button below with the squares on it)
2. You will get the hidden menu.
3. Rotate the rotary button to get to "VW diagnose" and select this by pressing on the centre of the rotary button.
4. If no errors are present it will display "no errors"
5. If Errors are present then a list of errors will appear
6. Press the centre of the rotary button again to delete all the errors
7. Repeat process above just to check that errors have dissapeared!
8. Re-configure the time and date if neccesary.

Any problems should be resolved assuming these are Electronic and not Mechanical.
