Insurers - who are you with?

We recently got a quote of A Flux but they won't let you see the policy documents until you have paid for the policy so you are buying it blind, I know you can bail out up to 14 days , but what a waste of time, you really need to see the small print before purchase imo.
Went with Comfort instead.

Hello Snowy55 - you won't believe it - but you're one of the folk in Loboro that I'm looking for! there are four of you on the map, I was hoping to make contact. I'm just visiting for today, and a bit tomoro and am looking for an enthusiast to help me become acquainted with my new (very old) van. I'm a total novice and am feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all :-D! My manual is all German, I've downloaded the English version someone else kindly sent me already this morning! but can't it off print yet.

Re insurance - I haven't read my docs yet either - should I be worried?, but someone up-thread said they felt Comfort was rather iffy and off-the-ball. The LV Victoria people I mentioned said they include breakdown insurance in theirs but I didn't get a quote off them as i was sorted with AF. Might do so now though to compare, but right now I'm more concerned with finding out if it's just me struggling with a slow old diesel or if I've got a clutch problem. It was replaced tho' last year and the previous owner hasn't really driven it at all since - hence the sale.

Hi there, I've got a T5 and have no experience of a T4 which are very different, read the manual and take it slowly-all the best for your adventures:thumb

Thanks as got to be sorting this out soon. Definitely sounds like a specialist insurance company is the way to go, only tried comfort so far but like the sound of the c&cc or cc.

Comfort is mentioned many times on this thread. They are just the broker taking your money off you. Aviva is the insurer and from my current experience their performance leaves a lot to be desired. I'm considering a halt to pursuing the claim through Aviva and arranging my own legal representation. So that's not particularly good value for money, is it?

I will be calling both Comfort and C&CC this Monday.

I'm trying to understand the NCB policy.

C&CC imply its related to motorhome policies but provided 8years from my car for their 2015 telephone quote (didn't go with them for the first year as they required a tracker ) which I added to and Comfort have now confirmed my NCB as 1 year and discounted the 8 years previously. :headbang

Its is a minefield for Campervan insurance from experience so far as I have just renewed my insurance with SAGA ..
You are best to stick to the ones who say MotorHome or Campervan insurance Ask for a quote to be sent (i.e email) found some don't so I don't go any further with them.
My first Insurer was Comfort and they didn't include NCB protection ! as just bought the California and like you was new to me and not like getting a car insurance, found it is not easy.
The year after found a Company called StaveleyHead and they showed there summary of cover, had a minor problem with them as I ticked on line for the vehicle security as Thatcham 1 and they wanted a certificate of proof, I should have ticked manufacture fitted, was sorted with insurer as they are brokers like most insurers.
All cover differ, some won't let you drive other vehicles, some won't insure over 48k.
Some like SAGA have Vandalism cover which won't affect your NCB.
Hope this helps.

Just going through this myself. Unsure whether to go with:

C & CC Club. £312 + £37 membership fee (could be useful for other stuff of course)

XS = £350, contents = £3500 total, single item limit £200, awnings not covered.

Or:

Safeguard (via 'Scenic' Motorhome ins). £299

XS = £250, contents = £3500 total, single item limit £200, awning covered to £1000.

Nothing in it really but what's important is how things are dealt with if TSHTF and in that respect kicking up a fuss with a big name like C & CC might be easier??

Have you tried Caravan Club? My policy is £390, 2nd year of New for Old cover as it was a new van. 270 days foreign cover that can be extended. Unlimited milage , 2 drivers, All items on Invoice covered, and contents unto £3,500 which can be varied. Also I had a brand new Caravan written off on its maiden trip. Caravan replaced with New model within 6 weeks with a secondary payment of £200 for the delay as I had bought the last of the previous Model Year caravan and they had to wait for the Manufacturer to build a non pre-ordered replacement.
Maybe not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Really hacked off with trying sort insurance this time around. This is our third California and the quotes have doubled since 2015, last time around we paid £320 for a 180 SE with Comfort and they have just quoted me £716 for a 150 Ocean! by far the dearest and that was with the 'club discount'

Other quotes have been:-
C&CC £538.62
Safeguard £559.61 includes a 17% discount through the club allegedly
LV £593.77

Any other worth while recommendations ?

I'm with comfort 8,000 miles a year no business use £235 fcomp

Comfort wouldn't quote because our vehicle is parked in a communal parking area in front of our house. Anybody can park there, but it's not a public road. We don't have any garden or driveway to park on, so our only option would have been to park it far from the house where we couldn't keep an eye on it. Not impressed.

Hi all

Camping and caravanning club, 10k miles pa, SDP + commuting, £580ish - it's parked on the street in sunny Manchester :)

I went with ccc because the insurance covered the entire vehicle (not just the outside as is the case with direct line and some other firms no doubt)

Chris

We checked this with Direct Line when putting the Cali on our insurance with them. They said that all manufacturer fitted items were covered by our policy. So cooker, fridge and cupboards are insured, but not pots and pans, etc. Of course, that assurance doesn't apply to non-VW Transporter conversions.

We pick up our T6 Ocean next week. Tried the recommendations on here and Safeguard came up trumps. As this is our first Cali, we liked that Safeguard offer unlimited mileage and European cover. We are not sure how much we will need so won't have to worry.

last year went with Comfort, this year got a better quote with Safeguard....86p a day happy with that :thumb

This year looked at all options again. best quote again CC&C - £266 . Still new for old,European cover,no claims protection etc.

Is my husband main car & has all his no claims bonus etc.
Also live in a low crime post code & kept on drive.
ours is garaged, 9 years ncb ... no idea about post code and how that may effect things.... is there a web site??

Not sure about web site but know when arrangiing insurance home/car a lot lower than city addresses.
We do include a large excess. 8000 miles .Don't need European cover for a long time at the moment.
CC & comfort were all in the same ballpark- £ 329 ish . Safeguard was the highest again.
We also have 2016 Cali with rear camera/ parking sensors which helps reduce the quote.
Its all very strange how it can vary. Spend hours each year comparing quotes.

I am with the CMC, no no claims on the Van as I still retain full NCB on my other car, they gave me 40% introductory discount and charged £385, also New Forest and on drive.

Last year with C&CC was £322 and now up to £395. I changed a few items and it made no difference. Currently going to go with Admiral at £237. (Just paid £431 to Aviva for my two other cars)

Sadly find Safeguard a waste of time. Spend 15min on the phone with them offering "free" breakdown cover on a new vehicle (doh) and then surprised when I say "expensive" to their £455 quote.

We have recently changed to Safeguard, the policy was much better than Comfort and came in at just £305 for the year based on 10k miles and unlimited European travel.( This was after the VIP discount)

Insurance is a minefield but it's also worth the effort to make sure it's exactly what you want! We're with the CMC and found them very helpful. CCC were also a similar price, Safeguard were helpful but very expensive compared to other quotes, Comfort wouldn't insure us as the car is kept outside the flat and not on our own private land. Good luck!
