New Ocean, Moulding Fault

Think mine is the same , don't get to over the top...there are worser things....

Well, that's not the worst of it, Hotel California.

Have a look at this...

Yes, that's right, I found a moulding fault on both of my keys for the water filler cap!

Typical poor quality control from VW !!

I'm thinking of getting on to the dealer and rejecting the entire vehicle!!!

[Sits down with cup of tea while the entire forum membership goes off to check their keys...]

Just checked mine, and as if I was not having a bad enough day already I find that my key has moulding fault as well, I will get straight onto VWCS on Tuesday

I'm feeling left out - my water keys don't have the moulding fault. And there was me getting all excited about the prospect of co-ordinated matching moulding faults... :embarrased

My water key did not even work the other day! :shocked

Despite me trying for nearly twenty minutes, nothing....

Then just as I was about to drive with steam coming out of my ears to SMG to demand replacements on warranty IMMEDIATELY I chose to stop using the safe key and use the other one instead :oops:

An egg on face moment narrowly averted :(

This is our second California. The first was a second hand, but just a year old, a fantastic van. This van is a brand new factory build to our spec: Black, 4Motion, 199hp. On day one when we took delivery of the van I noticed that there was a defect in the moulding on the passenger B pillar door trim. The dealer promised to order a new trim straight away. When the trim arrived it had the same defect, so did the next and the next and the next. Every new California I have looked at since has the same defective trim. VW UK say there is nothing they can do, that this is the way it is. Have you purchased a new California in the last 12 months? Then that a look at the Passenger B pillar door trim. Then telephone VW (NOT YOUR DEALER).

This was very common on the last run of T5's believe it was the tooling at the factory coming towards the end of its life.

Lots of users got concerned a few years ago about this cosmetic mark. Had it on our T5 got it on our T6 can not say I have any concerns about it. More concerned about the cracks in my body.

Was the same on our February 2019 Ocean

Looks like there was life in the old tool! My 2013 has the scar.
Although a minor issue it doesn’t say much for the VW quality control process or their ability to deal with a 6 year old (at least) fault.

my 69 plate has it, wonder if the T6.1 will have the same problem.

Well its not perfect, problem was possibly the wrong word maybe defect would have been wiser. I noticed the line straight away on delivery day but haven't really paid any attention since.

My December 2019 registered Ocean has this feature. The vehicle was pre registered by the dealer and I purchased it in February 2020. I didn't notice this moulding fault for a couple of weeks, and when I first noticed it, due to the lighting, it looked like a crack in the plastic.
I have raised the issue with the supplying dealer, who claim never to have seen the fault previously. Is there a solution, or will all supplies of this B pillar moulding have the same flaw because they have all been produced using the same tooling.

Normal. My 2014 SE has it.
