New T6.1 order delays

An update on my progress 1 month on, dealer still believes it is a March Build but the build date has still not gone to confirmed.
Well 2 weeks later our Van didn't make build before the factory shutdown, dealer confirmed today that the wiring harness is made in Ukraine. VW telling them the factories are shut for at least 2 weeks (at least) I would imagine moving wiring harness production elsewhere is more that a 2 week challenge and even if they did the logistical mess and knock on to the rest of production will mean much bigger delays.

Dealer of course can't even begin to guess when we will see it now, where we were expecting end April I doubt we will see it for months. Considering cancelling and coming back to it in a couple of years.

Of course many in the world with greater problems. Would have been proud to have received a Van partly made by those brave people in Ukraine.

Stick on in there. You’ve waited this long don’t cancel now.

I am in the exact same position as you. I was advised my vehicle would be built in March, ready for delivery in April. I can assume I won’t see it till May \ June. Stay positive. Iv waited 10 months so 2/3 more won’t hurt. Who knows in 2 years time availability could be even worse.

Ordered an Ocean, with tow bar amongst other extras, first week of April 21. Had build date of week 7. It’s now at Sheerness.
Mine was also build week 7 but daren't ask dealer where the vans right now.....

Mine took almost 2 weeks to get to dealer from Sheerness.

I’ve heard it take even longer, especially last year. They have had strikes there by Unite in January, but reached an agreement in Feb thankfully. My attitude along all of the interesting journey is not to hold my breath.

I’ve been laid back for 11 months but now I’m dropping a quick call every few weeks to keep tabs. Go for it! What did you order Ocean or Coast?

I want to resist calling and be patient. This is my second time round. Ordered an Ocean in Sept 20 which was written off by Listers Droitwich in June 21! Ordered Beach from Eurovans Crawley in July 21. Last time I’d contact VW Chat or the dealership virtually every week. Completely obsessed. Only contacted 3 times in 8 months this time round…a better experience.

Similar story here ordered T6.1 California 150 with Sports Pack June 2nd 2021.
Original delivery advised for Feb 2022, and “hopeful” promises from Breeze of delivery for Easter.
This week received a letter from VWUk CEO explaining that the crisis in Ukraine has lead to parts supply stopping altogether! Going on to say to expect further significant delays.
Just taken the decision to hire a T6.1 conversion for Easter & booked some flights to France in June.

I was told to expect 2-4 month delays as a result of the Ukraine situation affecting parts supplies. Ce la vie....

Here at last... After almost 10 months we received our California Coast yesterday... At a perfect time because the weather in Switzerland is GREAT this weekend...
For all that are still waiting: "Keep the faith"... It's definitely worth the long wait...:pinkbanana :)

If anyone is interested, non UK buyers:

The sketch of a van is now gone, after one day, and six "photos" of an actual van are visible.

Reading old posts this should mean the van has been built? Well, yesterday the dealer didn't have any clue of that. Just that the build is scheduled for week 12.
I got a call from the dealership: the van has unexpectedly arrived today!

The dealer still didn't have any clue in the system that it has left the factory..

Congratulations! You need to change your avatar now :):bananadance2

Might be some truth in the chat about expediting Coast orders. I’ve just had an email from Autoebid to say my Coast is built and being shipped. I’ve not heard anything from the dealer yet. As far as I was aware I was still status 0. Haven’t had a build date or anything. Not sure if I believe it but fingers crossed. Order was confirmed early August.
Confirmed by the dealer today that it is indeed on its way. Escaped the factory and should be ready to collect in a few weeks. Bit of a miracle happening here in my favour. Sorry to those of you that have been hit with further delays.

Delays are really country-dependant!
I think we've nothing coming before 12 months here in France at the moment.

FYI >
This is the text of a letter that was sent to one of the people that ordered a California in Switzerland by the official VW importer (translated from German):

Dear sir …..

Regarding the delivery date of your new VW T6.1 California we have to inform you as follows:

Due to the war in Ukraine, VW plants in Germany and Poland are completely closed indefinitely from this week.

Production has therefore come to a complete standstill and no more vehicles are currently being produced. Since many VW suppliers are based in the Ukraine, no cable harnesses, for example, are manufactured.

We just hope for a speedy end to the war and a swift resumption of work in Ukraine. Until then, unfortunately, we have to be patient and wait.

It is therefore extremely difficult at the moment to make a delivery forecast and to give you an approximate delivery date.

I'm sorry I don't have better news for you. As soon as production is up and running again and I can provide reliable information, I will contact you immediately.

Of course, we are always happy to answer any questions or ambiguities.

With kind regards,

Thanks for sharing that. Hoping for a speedy end to the war too, but for reasons unconnected with the arrival of my van :(

I don’t know why UK vans are (usually) produced faster. Something to do with LHD?
Next month I’ll have been waiting 12mths and I don’t really see it coming before summer now.

Just had a call from the dealer saying that they been informed by the factory that production is closed and to expect delays of at least 2 more months. I'd be surprised if its limited to 2 months.

There are worse things in the world than a delayed Cali order, just hope for the sake of the poor folks in the Ukraine that the world gets back to a level of peace.

That and VW not using sole source parts supply chains, presumably to save money. I was told delays could be an additional 2-4 months for an EU order.

Indeed, even before the Ukrainian atrocities, VW (and lots of other manufacturers) had problems based on their poor supply chain management.

Only Tesla (through vertical integration and clever/adaptable software) seem to have ridden the wave of supply chain issues and managed to supply over a million cars in the last twelve months with order-to-delivery times sometimes measured in weeks.

The legacy car manufacturers need to up their game to compete in the brave new world.

Yep, VW changed windscreen suppliers a few years ago & we were 6 weeks without being able to drive the van with its cracked windscreen before it could be replaced.

Just keep hoping, it does actually happen one day, i waited a year and the last 3 months was agonising, and then one day it was delivered and boy oh boy what a beautiful day that was, it almost makes it better you have waited so long as it makes it all the sweeter........
