Service confusion

Always Minor , Major, Minor,, Major

the Minor (oil ) service is oil & filter + safety check
the Major is as above + pollen filter. + fuel filter , edit + air filter
there is a document on the forum showing all the ”checks” carried out .

Not sure this is gospel but from the web:

Minor:
It includes: Oil & filter change. Replace pollen filter (where required). Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, bodywork, glass, locks, battery, coolant levels, drive belts, braking system, steering, hoses, drive shafts and exhaust system. Full vehicle road test. Diagnostic check including report. Re-set service interval display.

Major:
It includes: Oil & filter change. Replace pollen filter. Replace air filter. Spark plugs (petrol engine) or fuel filter (diesel engine) if required. Remove wheels and check brakes. Check/adjust tension of all drive belts. Check gearbox oil level. Check final drive oil level. Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, bodywork, glass, locks, battery, coolant levels, drive belts, braking system, steering, hoses, drive shafts, suspension and exhaust system. Full vehicle road test. Diagnostic check including report. Re-set service interval display. Volkswagen stamp in service book.

Some of the check listed do not happen : gearbox oil , final drive, battery, remove road wheels, the rest of the checks are just visual at best,

Don’t think they do a road test either :)

Tim I presume you had two services on a pre paid plan ?

you say you have one service left, was the first service an oil service or major ?
Yes, 2 services. The first was a minor, and the spanner symbolised it.
The second is booked for tomorrow, and my confusion stemmed from the oil can symbol on WeConnect that I’d assumed (don’t know why) depicted a minor service. In fact, VW tell me on the phone just now, it is for a major service. The spanner symbolises a ‘inspection’ (but actually they also changed the oil, as they do every year). Clear as mud?
She said the only really difference between the two is they change the pollen and fuel filters (every 2 years on a major), which fits your list above.
Doesn’t quite accord with GG’s web-sourced list, but I look forward to receiving the ‘diagnostic check report’ tomorrow

Just dropped it in. It’s a ‘20k time and distance’ service being done now. He didn’t accept the ‘minor’ and ‘major’ service categories.
I photographed the price list and intervals for various work.

Are those prices inclusive of VAT?
My recent Brake Fluid replacement was £81.60 + VAT totalling £97.92

That’s double what is was a year ago ! (£50)

VW have lost the plot with pricing at the customers expense, much of those items have double in price over a year , cost of parts have not !

Vw specialist indie £50 break fluid change autumn 2023,
it will not affect warranty and probably doesn’t need doing (brake fluid can be checked very easily ).

pollen filter circa £10 material =£65 to remove a couple of screws and pull out a paper filter and push a new one in and Chuck the old one In the bin ! (Doesn’t affect warranty)

Wow - pilfering pillocks!
I need to understand what doesn’t affect warranty and find a good independent near me in East London… now my free services are up…

Hi
I'm sure to take delivery of a two year old Beach next week to east London. Be great to hear how you get on looking for a garage!

Where are you based?
Let me know if you find a gem, thank you.

Check If the Indie can access and update the VW Digital service record(s) for work carried out.
