T6 Ocean Under Unit Light mind of its own

We are very happy with our T6 Ocean which we purchased in April however I wish we had better control of the under unit light that washes the front of the sink unit. It creates a nice effect when on however ours can only be switched from the front rear view mirror light switch and hence brings the 3 lights by the rear view mirror on too.
We have, on occasion been able to control the light from one of the 2 switches to the right of the sink, but not any more
While driving the other day we were able to switch it on and off by the visor mirror sliding switches, totally random... now that anomaly has stopped too.
What has persisted since we have had her is the fact that this light randomly pulses on for a second this occurs at night in the day. Makes no sense. We are confused and I think so is the dealer who will be having the van back in now for the second time to “look into this”
Has anyone else experienced gremlins with the light switching and how did you overcome it? Thanks in advance Payton

I have.
It's also been posted here.

Pushing the top button on the side of the kitchen unit twice changes the mode from camping to driving mode and vice versa.

In camping mode mine behaves normally.
In driving mode it can pulse for no reason with the vehicle ignition off.

The less I play with it the better it is but clearly then, thats 3 reports that something isn't right.
I have left it for now (just too busy to lose the van for any period of time).

So we just got our new ocean. Everything is great except a really annoying behavior on the interior lights at the tailgate.

First we had a problem with the strip under the “kitchen” also but that stopped after switching between camper and driving mode.

Now we have this annoying pulsing on the lights at the tailgate. It’s only pulsing when parked and locked with the key.
If we lock it from inside the cabin with the lock button we can control the lights normal with the switch. Same with the car unlocked we can also control with the switch.
As soon as we lock it with the key it starts pulsing and does not stop until you unlock the car again..
Have tried everything and talked to vw but they can’t figure the problem out. We can leave it for them to have a look but I figured maybe someone here has the solution

Having the same or similar problem, with our 2017 Ocean strip light randomly flashes on and off. Put up with it so far but disco lights at 3 am seem to disturb our dogs!
VW have had a look but can't identify the problem. Have asked for the van for several days to investigate further. Just wondered if anyone had discovered the cause of the problem, to point VW in the right direction

Mine does this as well. Nice feature to have when opening the sliding door etc, but it randomly comes on when it wants to in this mode. So i leave it off.
Maybe due a software update to fix.

I turned mine off too. It's not the answer but I can't let a dealer have my vehicle for that long, pull it apart and come up with no fix.
The light is a nice idea, should be simple enough to implement (and fix) but the fact is it has a mind of its own and I don't believe VW will find the answer quickly.
On my previous vehicle the alarm would go off randomly and that took landrover thousands of complaints and 3 attempts to sort it out.
Hence my confidence is low.

When I was bothered about it I sat and watched it and pinned it down to a regular cycle of every 10 minutes.

+1.

If somebody finds a solution or has it fixed by a dealer, please post.

Did you ever get this solved?

One for the tech heads (@Loz ????)

I was wondering if anyone knows what triggers every 10 minutes or there abouts?
My question is linked to the under kitchen LED strip in this thread...

I thought I read somewhere on the forum that some circuit or another does a health check in a 10 minute cycle ? I can't find it since the forum upgrade but either way, when in camping mode this strip light pulses on about every 10 minutes for a few seconds and dims away.
If I'm not dreaming, the issue may be linked to the cyclic thing. Sorry, my electrical knowledge and terminology leave a lot to be desired.

@Vw guru any ideas?

Hi yes there are a problem with the under unit lighting and presently one of our other master techs and myself are looking into the problem it is due to a 0.5 volt fluctuations to the kitchen lighting control unit. I will let you know when we ha ex’s fix
That’s great news that it’s recognised.

@Vw guru
Thanks for the info.
I assume from the reading I have done (sorry i'm pretty useless with getting the search function to cooperate with my memory) that the 0.5 volt fluctuation may not just affect the under kitchen light?
The tail gate dimmable lights, the pop top dimmable lights and LED number plate lights have all been posted about for strange behaviour (i.e. staying on or flashing on when they should be off) in the case of the number plate lights they remain on but very dim for a while.

Do you know if they are all related to the same cause?

Hi @2020 freedom the tail gate lights and the pop top lights all work from the same control unit so yes they are all related as for the number plate lights I ha be seen the threads but we have not yet had anyone come into one of our workshops with the issue so we have not investigated. The 0.5 volt fluctuations are causing the camper interior lighting control unit to switch on the under cupboard lighting but it’s also causing the other lights to be dim or in some cases flash. It’s such a small drop that’s reducing 6volts to 5.5 volts intermittently that it’s hard to find the cause. However I have been on annual leave this week so hopefully when I get back my fellow master tech at our other dealer has found the problem and I can update you all.

Thanks @Vw guru

Here is something that happened to me just the once when I was fitting my worktop glass protector kits and happened to have the phone handy.

I noticed it was listed as private so just incase that was the issue it now has a new link

Hi all so moving forward with this issue the flickering lights are to do with a voltage issue to the control unit. Vw have been informed and we are awaiting a full response as to how they would like to fix the issue. As a temporary fix if you remove the bulb in the boot area, the festoon bulb located partway up the kitchen wardrobe unit slightly to the rear of the battery then the lights will behave as they should. I will update when we have a full fix from vw however this may take some time. If any body wants more info please pm me.

Maybe the fix will be to swap out the festoon lamp in the boot for an led equivalent?

Hi @Loz that is an option and it did cross my mind but I did not have one spare today to test this out. The control unit is not wired how I would expect to see it and there is far to much residual current floating around causing issues.

yea, I've not looked at the MY2019 circuit diagrams yet.. maybe it's missing a good earth connection (which could be in the control unit itself).

Mine went to the dealer for this and some other items. They accepted it and commented that it was a known issue. We are waiting on a new control module from Germany.
