T6 Ocean Under Unit Light mind of its own

Hi the control module will not fix the fault one of the power supplies to the control units are wired incorrectly from factory. One of the power feeds is wired to the main vehicle battery and not the leisure battery’s I will update more information when I’m back at work tomorrow.

Hi here the update to my post from yesterday. The problem lies with the power feed that comes from fuse SC19 which is a fuse in the center dash fuse box. The fuse should be permanently battery fed however it’s not. The fix is to change the wiring to run off of the leisure battery’s via the fuse box under the left front seat.

Thanks for that update.

Is this info likely to be shared and know by all dealers?.

I have mine in for a service in a couple of weeks and was thinking of adding this to the list of warrant jobs to be done. (including another attempt to get my catching seat trim issue sorted)

Thanks @VW Guru - id like to get this sorted as per jasons comments, when back in for a service soon, however, is it a large job to change the wiring? eg dash out etc? Im thinking that if it is, then i can live with it, but if its a quick fix then ill ask them to sort it. TIA

It takes about an hour and a half to complete the repair the lower dash trim has to be removed from the left front to access a block connection and the left front seat has to come out to access the battery and fuse box. Unfortunately not enough have been reported to vw for them to action a technical bulletin but having spent hours working on one to find the fix with another master tech and explaining the issue to vw this is the way forward for a repair.

So this is a matter of owners reporting to their local dealer?
Then the local dealer will be able to find your resolution or will they need to start an investigation themselves?
Any idea how many reports prompt an official technical bulletin?

Thanks again @VW Guru

Mine didn't work at all for at least the first month we had the van. I tried every combination of button pressing I could think of and finally gave up on them. Then one day they just came on without me knowingly pressing the button and they have worked perfectly ever since?

Hi @2020 freedom it only takes 5 reports of vehicles built within a 6 month period of each other to Volkswagen via our Diss system to get vw to start a investigation into the fault but unfortunately not all dealers report correctly it’s a large on going internal issue.

As for dealers fixing the problem a lot of dealers shy away from thinking for themselves and just fixing the vehicle if it steps outside of vw’s rules so by all means give your dealer the info and save them a lot of time and effort trying all sorts of ideas. It took another master tech about 4 hours with my assistance on the phone and another 2 hours with me and him working on it trying all different combinations, with multimeters connected every where possible to finally work out what was happening then fix the issue. So pass the details on and if there workshop wants to call ours then that’s fine we can talk them through it.

Your not too far from me.
I think I'd bring mine to you and you could report it in the same way. I'll put my bike on the rack spend the 1/2 day exploring ...:thumb

Hi All.

While our visitors were leaving a few nights ago , the under sink light came on for a couple of seconds for no apparent reason, I have read on a previous thread that a feed needs to be taken from under the dash to under the passengers seat .
Are any forum members had the same problem and have had the work carried out .
From reading previous threads it will take a hour and half to complete .I have spoken with our dealership but to date there are no bulletins from VW .
Our California is a 2018 204 DSG.
Any replies appreciated.

Alan.

Mine does the same and will be watching this in anticipation. It’s so annoying!!

Do you mean the light in the cupboard? or the illuminated strip around the kitchen unit?

Hi Jason.

It is the illuminated strip under the unit apparently vw will not send bulletins out to dealers until enough people notify there dealers about this fault.

Alan

Just had one of mine fixed at Breeze Totton. The issue is that it is wired up incorrectly at the factory to the engine battery. Mine has now been changed to be powered by the leisure battery. Too early to say yet but I hope it's fixed!

Hi Soton Campers.

How long did it take, was the wiring taken from behind the dash to under the passengers seat.

Mine does this too.....
I understand the numbers to make this a bulletin don't need to be huge, I think its about how many a single dealer has experience of so its better that one dealer see's shall we say 10 of these than 10 dealers seeing 1 each.
I also thought Breeze at Poole are close to the number required.
I'd be interested to know if @Soton Campers yours is fixed as they are closest to me. However fancied a trip to Poole on a nice sunny day when my service is due.:thumb.

Hi 2020 Freedom.

Our dealership is Breeze at Poole, although Martin the Vw Guru has left Breeze there
are details from him from a previous thread about this fault.
I am dealing with Breeze Poole at present, since Soton Campers have had one of there California‘s sorted at Breeze Totton, they are going to speak with them and get back to me. Although I have no problems going to Totton.
If I get any more information I will post on forum.

Alan.

I’ve got this problem with my strip light above the kitchen cupboards. Mine went to breeze Totton this week and is now in the process of going to breeze Poole. Looking forward to getting it sorted

Mine had this. It took them a day to diagnose, and was fixed the next day. They changed a relay under the fridge. It worked for around 2 months, then stopped working in camping mode.

Mine just goes on and off in driving mode mainly when I’m braking. Must be my lead foot, it’s fine in camping mode.

Mine used to turn on and pulsate randomly. When it was off it would flash once every 10 minutes. Since it’s been fixed camping mode now doesn’t work. Way too complicated for a light switch...

In general there is enough information on this forum for VW to concede and do the right thing. A forward thinking company would take this onboard and not wait for it to come through the old official channels I might contact Customer Care.

They had it for a couple of days but mine was having some other bits and bobs done too so don't know about that particular procedure. They didn't elaborate which leisure battery (and I never asked) but as the leisure batteries are wired in series I'm assuming it wouldn't matter which? Whichever is more convenient I imagine?
