Rumour has it that if you complain to Vw customer care that you were promised a 3/4 month delivery and it has been substantially delayed they will financially compensate you for either; depreciation in value of your existing car between when you should have sold it and when you will, or if you have already sold it and have had to make alternative transport arrangements, or if you had holiday arrangements which will be affected by the delay and financial loss as a result.

A "friend" just received a cheque in the post.

After much discussion with the executive office of VW commercial customer service (much better at sorting stuff than customer services) they had offered me £500 compensation before I cancelled my order.

Just been looking at the numbers for these orders (sad I know but it was raining hard). There is in fact a clear but deteriorating order to build pattern.

The reported (on this thread) 2016 lead time between order and build week averaged:

January 15 weeks (e.g order week 2, build week 16)
February 18 Weeks
March 19 weeks
April and May 25 weeks (e.g order week 17, build week 41)

There were no build week allocations notified from week 26 to 31 which added to the lead time and seems to represent the MY2017 introduction.

The build to delivery time was relatively consistent at around 6 weeks. So the biggest delay is in the order process.

It would be interesting to get VW to explain why the time from order to build week allocation takes so long?

But if you are ordering be aware that the current lead time is around 25 weeks from order to build.

I really need to get out more..................

It's probably worse than that ... my week 26 moved to week 39 (204 DSG 4Motion). At the weekend, I jumped on a Beach 150 DSG with almost every conceivable extra and although the Beach wasn't part of my plans, I think it can work for us and the deal was fantastic. When I have it, I'll post up some pics in the appropriate forum.

Individual cases will be better, or as in your case, much worse than the averages I worked out from the order to build week gap reported in this thread.
But the increasing time from order to build week is evident.

The analysis gives people ordering now an idea of the real timescale involved so that they are informed when talking to optimistic salesmen. ;)

Enjoy your Beach!

Absolutely, no intended criticism of the averages! It's madness, isn't it ... I expect the dealer will phone to let me know my Ocean has arrived next week, now that I have found something else. To be fair to them, the dealership has been good (SMG Tonbridge) and it must be really difficult being caught between customers and the VW factory. Really excited about the Beach. It's strange, we much preferred the Ocean to look at but I realised that we would make more use of the Beach and I wouldn't have to be too precious about it. Love 'em both!

Folks, Just a short update,

Pick the van up yesterday and found it a very nice experience.....

Steve has dispatched my bike rack, bumper protector, wind deflectors, Thanks.

Spoke to Inka today who have dispatched black waterproof seat covers for our 3 bench beach, again Thanks.

Still no reply from Ulli at California Camping. so after 4 attempts, I'm afraid there on my s**t list and I'll be looking elsewhere.

But our Beach is AWESOME, the wait was hard, but that a van, AWESOME !

Thanks Richy

Contacted our dealer today and he sent a screen shot from his system.
Ordered 8th March, for Aug delivery........
Build week 30, but has now moved to 32 which is 8th Aug, so delivery late Sept, says dealer.

This is still unconfirmed. Confirmation not likely until week 29 according to VWCS.
They say delay is because of Alcantara and LED and the 3 week factory closure. Very polite and apologetic, but adamant it is the options that are the reason for the delay.

So pleased we have hired a T6 very near our spec for next week, will make the waiting less frustrating.

:headbang

Just spoken to my dealer who is going to make some calls and update me later as I am a mid March order date and heard diddly squat.
If he gets no build date we have agreed I talk to VWCS. Anyone got the best number or a contact there please?

I think the line from VWCS that it's the options that's holding up your build is BS. I have been waiting in mine since the order went in 22nd February. My unconfirmed build week has slipped again to week 34. I haven't ordered Alcantara seats or LED headlights or DSG which has previously been quoted in short supply. Wish they would just admit they cannot meet the demand.

Glad you have your hire can sorted in the mean time.

The way it was explained to me was;
Each order has a virtual "Bin" that bin needs to have all the options added to it before it can be put into the build queue.
These "Bins" will get allocated stock as their suppliers near their fulfillment so the DSG gearbox supply chain will supply say 1000 units and they get spread amongst the the first waiting bins for DSGs then the seat supplier with supply their stock and these get allocated and so on.
Once the "Bin" has all the parts and options to make it complete it moves to the back of the build queue, at that point their prediction software comes up with a confirmed build week and as long as the production doesn't stop for any reason it will progress onto built.

so; if you have lots of options, any one of them can hold up your build and hold your "Bin" back from joining the queue.

When we ordered back in April/May there were no swivel seats available and that held up lots of orders, so it will be very feasible if there has been big demand on an option like new LED lights that the suppliers fall short on delivery to the "Bins".

As I have lots of options including diff lock, I would expect mine to fall back until all my options are in the "Bin"

I too have lots of options so if this scenario is correct we may have a long old wait.

Yep and me. Phone call tomorrow to VWCS required.

T6 CFO, who is your dealer? There were three or so people who had ordered but still have no build info. Maybe a common factor?

Bristol. Very happy with dealer but I don't believe they have any clout with VW. Cancellations for dealers must be very painful after the amount of time they devote to a sale.

sorry, pressed the wrong button.
Meant to say "Thanks Loz, the bin explanation makes the most sense of anything I've read about seeming delays". If not sense then at least it makes it seem that there is SOME method in VW's madness:(
