I loved having my bike with us on the OUter Hebrides but am not so sure going to Croatia and Slovenia this year.

In truth, I plan my trips around walks, but I'm seeing a lot of bike maps and tours so it looks a good area for cycling (pottering about on an ebike).

However, I'm just not sure I want the worry.

Has anyone any experience/thoughts on this...?

I always take my bike when on holiday. You never know where you are going to end up. Even in Switzerland you can ride your bike. If only it was to go to the shops or bakery.
Or when visiting a town, I always park somewhere, if not in the town itself, in the direct surroundings. Then take the bike, and visit the town by bike. Much easier than by van or on foot.

Why not! I’ve taken my road bike on a rear rack before for alpine adventures, but now I just have my Brompton and keep everything secure inside the van.

Edit: as above, a bike is really handy if you’re parked outside town. It adds a lot of flexibility and freedom.

We love to take our bikes with us especially in Slovenia, Austria and Germany (Croatia was to warm in summer).
Slovenia: Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj have great bicycle routes. More in to mountain biking? Maribor, Kranjska Gora or Jamnica have great trails or a bike park.
Croatia: We went from Camp Finida to Umag with the bikes and it was a lovely route along the coast.
