VW California Special Edition ( California Generation)

I was wrong, this is coming to the UK

Based on the 114bhp, two-litre TDI BlueMotion, the £49,500 Generation features:

• 17inch alloy wheels
• privacy glass
• leather and Alcantara seats
• leather steering wheel
• bike rack
• cruise control

Finishing touches also inlcude illuminated steps and Generation graphics.

Interesting :)

Where does it say it's available in the UK, do you have anymore info.

Seems strange that it has the lower end engine not even available on a UK Cali and quite a price premium too.

So basically just a cali with a few options that are otherwise available any way. So really paying for special graphics !!

That is what I thought Andy, I am not even sure if it is that much of saving compared to ordering the options ? Also, is it me or do the cabinets look darker?

Ref the above does it come with the bi-zenon headlights i can see in the picture ?

Looks pretty nice in the pics.

I saw an Edition 25 (German) Cali 180 when we were away and had a good look around it - interesting but it wasn't quite our cup of tea. The owners were really nice though and about the only couple we've found with a Cali (they had an 18 month old boy too) who were under 45

I'm 38?

There is a different buying culture in Germany - and VW can market a lot more models - the Edition Vans have their own niche and appear to be bought private buyers who want something individual and further from that - spec them up quite a lot. That's the advantage you have in the LHD market - here in the UK, it's a bit more difficult though I understand they are coming to the UK. I've seen second hand Edition Cali's in Germany selling at close 70k euros.

I think the idea of them is that they are for the buyer who wants something quite unique - that's the big part of VW culture.

Buyers in the UK generally want set things - those things are so important to other markets - that is why they have an appeal.

Whenever special edition vans appear UK buyers normally do the same thing - look at the extras - look at the price and say - I am not paying extra just for some stickers....

Different culture elsewhere - German buyers enjoy the different models - it's this that has the kudos rather than the goodies it has.

Still can't see them selling it with a 114bhp engine?

They sell them with less in some markets - take your point though - having driven my Beach a 114 and a full Cali at 140 - I wouldn't want a 114 in a full Cali

I saw three Calis with all silver TDI badges abroad; I think they were all the pre 2010 shape so were they 80PS?!

A full Cali needs plenty of poke as it weighs more than a medium sized town.

I'm over 45 now but bought my first Cali when I was 41 and my wife was 35 and our oldest was still a baby. We've done most of our travelling through continental Europe and the Cali owners we've met have always been young families with young kids.

We've not met any English Cali owners as we rarely camp in England but from what I can gather on this forum the Cali is more popular with older owners in England. I wonder why that is given the Cali is really built for families with young kids.

Why would you say it is built for families? just because it has a child safety net :? I have met many older Cali owners over on the continent and would say it is an even mix of ages.
